I have a friend in Australia and Hawaii who would do the same, I tend to just message them on FB as it's faster - especially with Australia, that's too expensive to call, unfortunately. But I know about having people around who I can go to if I ever do need to just ask them for help with something. :]
And they all know I'm there for them as well.
I've been up late a few nights in the last week because my friend in Hawaii has been having a hard time - and just needs someone t listen.

Ah, my friend and I normally message over Facebook, but since it was to go over interview questions, we figured it made more sense to do it over the phone because it needed to be more on-the-spot conversational :) we were actually going to do a video chat initially, but he was on his phone and had his friend over and whatnot, so phone worked better for him at the time.

That's very nice of you to help your friends, especially those who are in significantly different timezones. I had a friend who moved to the other side of the United States a long time ago, and it was kind of difficult to do any phone time or even online chat time because of the timezone difference.

Yeah, that makes sense - with calling - and doing it over the phone. That was nice of him to help you out. When are you interviewing?

Yeah. It's all about scheduling times and such. If my friend in Australia - currently 19 hour difference, but goes between 17 and 19 hours - can make it work to chat online. Then it can be worked out within the states. And Hawaii is only 2 to 3 hours behind me, so that one isn't too bad.) :]

Yeah. I was not in a good place during this... I mean he was fine vital signs were stable so we didn't have to send him anywhere... I just don't understand what doctor would prescribe meds like that.... I'll never understand.

Yeah, Hawaii isn't bad, could be worse. And hahaha, with Phoenix, it's all a matter of luck! Most of the time at least that's what it is. Or I just message her and she'll get back to me when she has time. :] Or is online or something. We have made it work for like 12 years now. ^_^ There are times that I wish I could call her -I do have her mobile number (she has my parent's number as well - I don't have an international calling plan on my cell phone, she does which is why I can call her the few times that I do), but it's just that I don't have the money to call her as often as I'd like. I loooove her accent. :]

Wow! It's impressive that you've known each other for twelve years and have maintained your friendship for so long and so long distance :) I'm wondering if it would be free to video chat with her? I'm trying to remember...oh! What is it called...FaceTime! That is free internationally, if you and your friend use any Apple devices :)

As an aside, I have a friend I met recently who is from Australia, but she is going back in a few weeks :( but at least we have each other added on Facebook and can maintain contact ^_^ and I love her accent as well!!

Sadly, we can't - her internet isn't good enough to Skype and she dislikes Apple devices, otherwise we could Facetime. :( We make do with what we have. I should take a pic of the stack of letters that I've gotten from her - and I've gotten so many amazing handmade gifts from her - she crochets.

Awwww, I wish you the best of luck keeping the friendship. It's hard, being so far apart, but if Phoenix and I can manage it despite the distance - we've only seen each other in person once, back in 2011 when I flew down there - I know you can do it too. ^_^

Watching Code Monkeys -- man, I miss this show.

Cloudie - That's awesome that you exchange letters and gifts ^_^ in this day and age, those can be considered very meaningful relative to things like text messages and such.

I'm not sure what part of Australia she's from, actually. That's a good question to ask her, but I'm not really familiar with Australia at all. ^_^; so even if she told me, I would have to ask a lot of follow-up questions to understand, haha. She is a super awesome dancer <3 I don't doubt that we will be able to still be friends, but maybe it won't be like now, where we can hang out and converse and such. That's based on people I've met from other places, like the Philippines and South America, whom I've met and added on Facebook and whatnot, but after they returned to their home country, we stopped really talking after that.
