Martha jumped as an explosion filled the empty cave. "What the?"

"April don't!" Erik raced into view and stood panting a little. "Whew I need to work out more." he grimaced.

April slowly looked to Eric."why?",she asked coldly

"Because that your best friend in there you can't hurt her you'd never forgive yourself." Erik pleaded and took her hand. "Please April this isn't you this isn't the girl I love. Bring back my sweet girl." he swallowed and then kissed her throwing all caution to the wind.

April stayed in the kiss befor carefuly pushing him away."Eric, she helped Nightare...she helps other people,but she wouldnt help Jason,even though Jason tried to turn his life around,he helped her,and when slade killed him,nothing....to her,and her mom,its just another body ...if i dided,id be another body...she has no heart...and the person she does care for....should die,like Jason did, then maybe sh'd start careing",she sai blasting at the door.

"She didn't force Jason to do that she told him over and over again that she didn't like him...I think she does care but she's like her mother a person dies and they fell bad but they don't let it get in the way of what needs to be done. If you'll recall she didn't willingly help Dark she just did it because you were in danger. She cares about you I saw the way she reacted when you got kidnapped she tries to hid it but she would miss you if you die. April please if you keep doing this I'll have to stop you. I made a promise to your father." Erik grabbed her arm.

April stared at him."how would you stop me?",she asked softly.Feeling some tears comeing into her eyes

"Not sure yet." Erik grinned. "But I can't let you do this you'll wind up losing Martha and you'll never forgive yourself."

April stared at him.He was right but,she couldn't stop herself that easily. "Eric....",then hearing the sirens in the distence she frowned

"Please April." Erik took her hands. "Don't worry about the sirens Bruce can handle Slade...or at least I think so." he grimaced. "Let's just go home I'll read you a story and we can be together without worry."

April stared at him."y-you promise?",she asked softly as her eyes started to turn back to normal

"I swear it with all my heart." Erik kissed her hands. "I'll love you forever and I won't let anything happen to you."

April nodded."l-lets go",she said softly seeing the flashing lights in the distance comeing towards them

Erik hurried them away to a tunnel that lead out of the city. "I'm the only one who knows about this." he grinned.

April followed closely clinging to his hands."r-really?"

"Of course. I hide t well after I found it and well I've never seen anyone else here." Erik shrugged and kissed her in the dark.

April smiled softly and kissed him back ."I love you",she said oftly

"I love you more." Erik smiled and kissed her eyelids then lead the way to a door which opened onto a small room. He locked them in tight "Not even a giant can break that door." he sat on the bed and pulled her onto his lap. "I'll keep you here." he grinned.

April curled into him."I ...I dont wan't to be a hero anymore",she said softly

"What!?" Erik blinked taken aback by this sudden confession. "Not that I'm going to argue with you but why?"

April had cringed and sighed."did you read ,the papers after the Nightmare Gas attack?

"Yes but you can rebuild your rep as long as Huntress votes for you which she will because she want's you to be happy you should be fine." Erik frowned a little.

April shook her head."n-not after today",she said burring her face into his chest."its safer for Gotham if im not a hero"

"Alright I won't force you." Erik ran a hand over her back and settled in. "How long do you think it will take?" he mused. "Bruce is strong and young but Slade has years of training on him."

April stayed close and twitched worried."Im not sure..."she trembeled a lttle."wh-what if Slade wins?"

"Then we're so owned." Erik grimaced. "We just have to have faith that the others will win against him even if Bruce doesn't."
