It was early in the morning and Drys stood on the edge of the forest she called home. She held tightly onto her satchel and stared down the long road ahead of her. "Why'd they have to choose me?" Drys had never left the forest before and was more nervous than anything. Her shy nature didn't make things better. Button bobbed and jumped around her feet and nudged her to get going. Taking a deep breath she took a step forward. When she saw that she didn't die she felt much better and decided to do just that.

After an hour or so of walking, Drys came to a crossroads and stopped dead. She knew which way to go of course, but that's not what scared her. A young human was gazing up at the sign next to the road. Having never met a human before (but knowing that she would eventually), Drys had no idea how to react. “Just walk up,” said Button,”Greet him and keep walking.” Drys knew that there was no getting passed this. She had to go forward. She took another few steps forward and stopped a few feet before the human. “What’re you doing?” hissed Button. She threw her hands in the air and reverted to her tree form. “That’s it,” said Drys,”the minute he moves on, I’m going home.”

Sol stared at the sign at the end of the crossroad. He was lost. He knew it. Curse his horrible sense of direction! It was almost mid day and he was no closer to the next town then he was yesterday. With the sun beating down on him he decided to take a lunch break, so he walked over to a tree and sat against it pulling out some jerky and a map. Although the map wasn't doing very much when he didn't even know where he was on it.

Don't worry father, I will avenge you and get back your sword. He leaned back and sighed. "Where the hell is Killmar Village?"

"Kilmar villages is that w- blurgh!" Drys whipped a branch over Button's mouth before he ruined her perfect disguise. Any louder and the human would have heard him. Or aybe he did hear him. Nevertheless Drys kept a tight hold on Button and watched worriedlyas the human went about his strange business.

He seemed to be looking at a map of sorts and was holding a small, stiff twig in his hand. Now what would he do with that? Drys didn't know. She would've left it be or would've taken it back to the tree it came from to apologise for it's loss. What she did know was that this human was heading to the same town that she was. Good thing she was going home. Just as she thought that, a a breeze blew a bit of the human's hair passed her nose. She would've stopped the sneeze, but it caught her off gaurd. "Aachoo!!"

Huh? Sol looked around, he thought he heard something. But there was nothing but a cool breeze. So he shrugged it off and stared back at his map. He almost laughed at how pointless looking at it was, they never once helped him before.

Taking a bite out of the jerky he closed his eyes and let the wind blow over him. "Aachooo!" The sudden sound sent him flying forward face planting into the ground. He quickly jumped to his feet and stared at the tree in bewilderment. "The tree...JUST SNEEZED?!"

Drys cringed when the human ungracefully fell forward. It made her bark wrinkle, but he couldn’t see it, of course, from his current position. Unfortunately his sudden outburst made her cringe even more from the effort of keeping quiet. “Technically she’s not a tree,” said Button. He seemed to have wriggled out of her grasped and was hoping down her branches towards the baffled human. Button landed on his shoulder. “She’s actually a dryad. Do you know what that i-“

“Button!” Drys couldn’t contain herself for any longer. She changed back into her normal form and continued to scold her mushroom friend. “Why did you do that?”
“Why do you keep interrupting me?,” said Button from the human’s shoulder,” I’m helping you out!”
“You’re being stubborn because I didn’t do things your way!”
“My way was better. You wanted to give up!”
“I…” Drys remember the human. “Oh. Uh, hello.”

Sol was sweating bullets and his brain was having a hard time processing what was taking place before him. Talking tree. Talking mushroom. Tree turning to a girl. Mushroom. Could trees and mushrooms talk? Was he dreaming? Where was he? As the girl and plant argued before him he took in the situation.

He turned to the mushroom on his shoulder and held himself back from shrugging the damn thing off, but then who knows what it'd do. "Wait what do you mean dry-add? Wait what am I saying HOW ARE YOU TALKING?!"

Button crossed his arms (as he always did when he was getting ready to explain something) and cleared his throat. “A dryad is a tree spi- ACK!” The force of the human’s scream was enough to knock the little mushroom to the ground where he groaned a wiped the sand from his face. “What is it with people and interrupting me today?!”

Drys couldn’t help but chuckle at the situation and then walked over to pick Button up. “Maybe just be quiet for a little while.” She patted him on the head and turned back to the human.” I’m a tree spirit. I am one with nature and this allows me to… change forms like that.” She shrugged and smiled weakly. “Button… well mushroom are strange little things. They’re not even plants. I’m not sure how’s he talking and I’m not even sure that he knows, but he does and sometimes there’s no shutting him up.” The litte fungus smiled widely, Drys’s nervousness was returning slowly. This human was probably scared out of his mind and she was having a casual conversation with him. The best thing to do was to move on.

Drys picked up her cloak and satchel and hurriedly waved to the human. “We’d best be off. Bye now.” She began to edge around him, but Button climbed to the top of her head and sat there. “Bye, human! We’re going to Killmar village!” Oh great.

Spirits. Sol was a little shocked, spirits were myths. Fables. And here was one standing right in front of him. The spirit looked kind of skittish but he eyed the mushroom wearily. Even the spirit didn't know what he was.

"Wait!" Sol grabbed Drys' wrist to keep her from leaving. "Killmar Village?! You have to let me come with you!...well I mean," He started to falter, "I mean you wouldn't be taking me for nothing I uh," He points to his sword and cleared his throat, "I'm a pretty good fighter! I could be like a body-guard on the way there!"

“Woah! What the leaves!”Drys jerked her hand away and straightened the leaf on her wrist that had been crushed a little. “Heh, sorry. I don’t like them getting bent.”

Drys considered the human’s offer. It was tempting, but every spirit knew that humans couldn’t be trusted. A lot of the times they considered themselves and their own gains before anything else. Many a spirit had been used by them. But, somehow this one seemed… honest.

“Hmm,” said Drys and she ran a hand through her hair and almost knocked Button from her head,”I don’t know. I’ve never actually met a human before.”

“Perhaps this one can give us some pointers?” said Button,”On fitting in, you know.”

Drys perked at this idea. She knew next to nothing about the ways of humans and this was her opportunity to find out more. “Alright then. I don’t see the harm. Just until the village.”

"Ah, sorry!" Sol said refering to her leafs, making a note to himself to be more careful.

He listened as the two...plants converse back and forth. He couldn't figure out why they were also heading to Killmar Village but frankly he didn't care.

"Great! Don't worry I can help you not stand out easily!" Sol said eagerly. Anything to get to the next town. With how long it was talking him he was afraid he was already extremely behind where the rumors had said the thief had gone.

"Oh wait," Sol cleared his throat and stuck out his hand, "Where are my manners? I'm Sol nice you meet you."

Drys stared at the outstretched hand. Dryad's greeted by placing a hand over their heart. But, what was she supposed to do with this? She glanced up at Button who shrugged and made an almost slashing motion with his hand. Then she lightly smacked her hand on his and pulled it away. "My name is Drys and this is Button" The little mushroom waved smartly and then jumped down onto the human's shoulder again. "So, lead the way, Drizzle" Drys squeezed her eyes shut and put a hand over her face. "Stop calling me that," she said walking a bit forward," Come on... Sol. This way."

Sol dropped his hand as Dys had left him hanging. He stared hard at the two, especially at the mushroom. This "Button" as she called him. He seemed to be the one in charge.

Following the female spirit, he couldn't help but ask, "Drys, right? If you don't mind me asking why are you heading to Killmar Village?"

Drys clutched onto her satchel and tensed, though not visibly, at the question. Should she really tell this human, whom they had just met, their plans. He could be the one who took it, for all she knew. But, then again, they would be travelling together for a while. It was a days journey to Kilmar and perhaps this young man was merely being... polite.

"Um," she began unsteadily,"Well we're... looking for something. Something that was stolen from my home. It's very important to us, so I can't really tell you any more." She gave Sol a sympathetic shrug, but Button seemed clearly at ease on Sol's shoulder.

"Oh yes, top secret work," said the little mushroom,"We'd have to get rid of you if you knew any more." He looked down the path, unaware of his mistake. What kind of an impression was Button trying to give of? That they were assassins or something? Drys had no idea, but tried to think of a way to lighten the mood.

"Hehe, so what about you, Sol? Do you have any reason why you're going to Kilmar or are you just passing through?"
