I kind of disagree with removing summer vacation. That is the time when kids who do well in school can enjoy a break, and the kids who don't do well are taking their summer classes trying to catch up. Otherwise, those kids would never be able to make up their work. Additionally, summer vacation allows kids to do things outside the classroom, like travel and catch up on hobbies and volunteer and intern...those possibilities are endless.
What do you think?

ULTIMATE SOLUTION: Homeschool your kids year-round! <not really the ultamate but it is an option> Then the family unit would decide all the holidays and vacations. <-< it would just take a bit of extra work on the parents part. I honestly do not have the best answer.
Are you hoping as much as I am that the event will start?

I am absolutely agreeing with you on this! I am so ready for the event to start!! I have been posting and earning as much gold as I can, and even saving it up this time around, in order to get a head start on this event! I am hoping for the first time ever to be able to afford all of the event commons that I desire ^_^
Additionally, I may be helping Hummy out with RAKissmas (if that is how you spell it?) and doing an art contest!! I am not 100% sure on that yet, or the details, but that would be the first time I ever host a contest here on Menewsha so I am so filled with anticipation right now!
What event games do you foresee us having, and which ones would you play?

A year round school sounds exhausting.
why we are put on this earth: prophecy, accident, coincidence, what does it matter? As Mewtwo once said 'The Circumstances of ones birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that defines who you are'. I've learned not to care what ever deity, or whatever gave me life, has in store for me. It's my life now, and I will do as I please with it.
Despite the everyday criminality of religion, and the crime that runs rampant in our homes, I've realized this: I'm alive, and I'm still sane enough to be curious about what's out there. There are probably thousands of things to discover, outside of our outstanding, and I want to experience them all, starting with my own home.
what do you all think?

@My Friends;
[sorry for the mass ping]
Where did 2600 go?
I apologize for my surprise disappearance. The holiday event came to an end and I had to focus on my winter course work rather than online games. I am now in my own dorm at college. I have a single and it is great. I hope that everyone on Menewsha is doing well. I hope to get on here more often now that I have officially initiated logging back onto the community website.
Here is a question for the masses:
What is the most recent news story you heard and how did you hear it?

Hm....lets continue the questions.
Does anyone else find Altruism repulsive?
I mean, it sounds nice and all: Help the fellow human and all that. But realistically, it's things like that, especially in extremist religious factions, that lead to the dark ages. But I see the fact that things are getting better as science, arts, industry, and government ( In the most Basic sense) are moving away from religions that hold Altruistic beliefs is proof that a Society cannot be built on a Altruistic philosophy.
The basic principle of altruism is that humans have no right to exist for his or her own sake, that service to others is the only justification of his or her existence, and that self-sacrifice is his or her highest moral duty, virtue and value. Do not confuse altruism with kindness, good will or respect for the rights of others. These are not primaries, but consequences, which, in fact, altruism makes impossible. The irreducible primary of altruism, the basic absolute, is self-sacrifice—which means; self-immolation, self-abnegation, self-denial, self-destruction—it means that the self is a standard of evil, and the selfless is a standard of the good.
Do not hide behind superficialities like whether you should or should not give a dime to a beggar. That is not the issue. The issue is whether you do or do not have the right to exist without giving him or her that dime. The issue is whether you must keep buying your life, dime by dime, from any beggar who might choose to approach you. The issue is whether the need of others is the first mortgage on your life and the moral purpose of your existence. The issue is whether man or woman is to be regarded as a sacrificial animal. Any human being with self-esteem will answer: “No.” Altruism says: “Yes.”

If we're gonna debate altruism, then we'll debate altruism, but I'm not sticking to your definition of altruism, which is completely different from the objective definition.
Honestly, I think you're the one with self-esteem issues. You believe that you don't need to be altruistic to "earn" your right to exist. That's absolutely true. You can do whatever the hell you wanna do with your resources and you can exist. That's your freedom. But your real problem is that you're uncomfortable about the fact that people who are altruistic will earn more respect from others. And you think that its unfair that one has to be altruistic to be liked and respected.
But that's the thing- You can do anything you want- within legal limitations- but people can think whatever they want of you and how you spend your resources. That's their freedom. They aren't challenging your right to exist, they're simply having a negative opinion of you. Any "I have to do this to buy my right to survive." is completely your own perception of other people's judgement. You're not obligated to satisfy other people's view of you, nor are they obligated to like you for living the way you want to live. Simple 'nuff, freedom all around.
So to answer your question- No, I don't find the concept of altruism to be repulsive. I am not an altruistic person, but I don't look down on altruistic people or assume that they have self-confidence issues because I dislike feeling the societal pressure to be like them.

I kind-of disagree with your view, but I respect your opinion. In truth, I do have a self esteem issue, but that's due to personal experience, where I've been forced to put others happiness before my own, and have taken advantage of it. its gotten to the point where I've grown sick of it, and just stopped caring. I stick to a personal philosphy: if you don't work to serve your own self interest, your going to get exploited, or probably killed.

Eh. We all have different lives and life philosophies. There's nothing wrong with yours- If you wanna live for yourself, then you live for yourself. I admire altruism, but I personally take care of myself and my own. I don't have enough heart or hands to worry about others.

I find Altruism repulsive in the sense that it, if you look at the context of it, generally states that you cannot live without giving everything to everyone. For many years, I felt guilty. I felt guilty that I made and had money, and that I didn’t give more of it away. I felt guilty that I desired things This guilt continued and grew as I started to further earn my own way and strive for excellence in my life.
Moreover, I was made to look at all those around me with want, with disease, and with misfortune, and feel guilty that I wasn’t helping them. How can I be happy when I am not doing enough? It was my duty to give to the masses, to the detriment of myself.
I don't feel that way anymore.
Not because I have given it all away, but because I see that this is a false morality. It is a morality that demands of those who produce to give to those who don’t. This morality assumes that what a person has (including what he or she creates) is not really theirs. It is a mindset that what you produce, defacto belongs to others. This is the morality of altruism, and it is vile.
Altruism is different than benevolence or philanthropy. Benevolence is when I freely donate my time and energy to something or someone because I WANT to, and philanthropy teaches a way for people to help 'themselves' (akin to teaching a man how to fish, instead of just giving him one). Altruism goes much further, it assumes that what you have, or what you’ve created or produced belongs to others. Not only that, altruism holds that if you think you are entitled to your own stuff, than YOU are evil.
With respect to altruism, we have to examine the second and third order effects. What must be examined about altruism with respect to those with a human intellect is, “why aren’t others taking care of themselves?” and “when an altruistic person sacrifices himself for the sake of others, then how does this affect the others’ behavior and mindset in the long run?” The answer to both questions, is that others will begin not only to rely on the altruistic being, but will actually EXPECT that they perform this behavior.
Whenever anyone wants others to do their work, they call upon their altruism. Never mind your own needs, they say, think of the needs of... of whoever. The state. The poor. Of the army, of the king, of God! The list goes on and on. How many catastrophes were launched with the words "think of yourself"? It's the "king and country" crowd who light the torch of destruction. It is this great inversion, this ancient lie, which has chained humanity to an endless cycle of guilt and failure.

Nothing about altruism states that you have to be altruistic to gain self-worth. The word you're using and the concept you're trying to describe are two completely different things.

Greetings fellow Menewshans.
It has been a while since I have stopped by to visit this awesome place. My life took many turns which led me away from my online life to deal with the outside world. I can say that I have come back at least until the end of the summer, possibly longer.
I hope to continue having interesting conversations with everyone and make this an active and friendly thread. ^_^
