“War is Peace. Freedom Is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength.” [Orwell]
Your descriptions of altruism and the idea that the things that one creates are not owned by the individual that created it remind me of the arguments for communism and socialism within George Orwell's novel 1984. There is a difference between giving everyone an equal opportunity to succeed and giving everyone equal benefits. Providing opportunity lets those that seek out opportunities thrive. Providing benefits to everyone can create an imbalance of relationship between self driven individuals and those that look to benefit others. This is not to say that people only are either self driven or selfless because that is not true.
O-o Did I accidentally break my own question rule?
I hope everyone's day is going well. The New York City pride parade happened today in Manhattan. I hope the weather was good to those who walked in the parade. People can get dehydrated pretty quickly when they have to walk in the sun... or dance.
Question: Did anyone on menewsha celebrate pride in any way or are you looking forward to the 4th of July coming up?
I did! Well, I celebrated on my own with friends because I wasn't able to attend the parade in my city due to sad working times lol. I was a little down about it because I've gone five years in a row and this is my first time since coming out that I haven't been able to go. Alas, there will be more pride events and at least I was able to have fun with some of my LGBT friends.
Our city's pride parade was yesterday.
I didn't do anything because I didn't know it was yesterday... Such is the life of someone who lives in the country, where news doesn't reach. :(
I am hoping that next year, after I move to a big city (Los Angeles) that I will be able to actually participate in Pride. :D
Hi hummy!! //waves back
I hope your day was dandy. I scored lots of free food at work and I couldn't be happier lol. Free food makes the world go round, I tell ya.

Have you attended any pride events, 2600?
Unfortunately I celebrated today by simply wearing my pride shirt. I have been to 13 prides overall and went to 3 prides last year, but this year I missed out. I hope to be able to go again next year. It is always a fun time, especially if you go with some friends. I am a bit worried about going because of the current political climate.
Question: Do you discuss politics on a regular basis or are you cautious about giving out your political opinions?

Yeah, I do get a little concerned going out with friends sometimes, especially if we can be clearly perceived as 'other', if that makes sense. Like when my friends and I go to gay clubs or bars I'm always secretly anxious that it's going to be a repeat of Pulse and I know that's a little extreme and I probably shouldn't worry about it constantly but I've experienced violence in my life due to being LGBT so I'm always cautious.
I do discuss politics but I typically don't unleash my full power when it comes to new friends. Like friends I've known for a long time, I'm more open to fully disclosing my opinion but I know my opinions are not always extremely popular with some of the people I'm around on a daily basis. (Many of my coworkers are conservative or liberal and I'm more of a leftist)
Are you in an accepting workplace w/r/t gender/sexual orientation and political opinion?

Hau:
I am in a very accepting workplace in regards to LGBT. They are an equal opportunity employer however, I am going to be looking for a new job soon. I'm a bit over dealing in food service and since I moved it isn't really worth it to be commuting back and forth to my old town for work when I could get a job across the street from me. I tend to keep my politics silenced unless I feel that I will get a good conversation out of it.
Ava The Vampire: I have wanted to visit LA for a while. When I am out of college and more established I might try to take a week vacation there to test the waters and see if I would like living out there. I may be more inclined to move to a state like Texas just for a change of pace from east coast living.
Do you have a favorite or a least favorite kind of job, if so what job?

LA is absolutely beautiful! The people are very friendly and the weather is nice (most of the time). I also love the atmosphere, it's very full of creative activity and it's the perfect place for artists of all kinds to gather. Seemingly everyone in LA is into the arts of some kind so it's really a great place for meeting people with similar interests (if that's what you're interested in.)
The only downside to it, I'd say, is the cost of living. Everything there is so expensive! Well, at least rent is, anyway. (But that is the most important thing, isn't it?) Rent for a one bedroom apartment in a decent neighborhood; no bars on the windows, no constant crime or homeless people living near the apartment building, etc., will cost about $2000/month. A two bedroom apartment in a decent neighborhood costs about $2500 a month. And to have a pet it's about an extra $90 per month, per pet.
As I was typing this, I googled some "cheaper" apartments that are pet friendly in LA, and they cost about $250 for a deposit for a pet, then an extra $35 a month per pet.
So yeah, living in LA is really expensive. I don't know why, either. I get that there's a beach so it's nice to live by the beach, but there are beaches in many other places that are not so expensive.

My favorite job?
Hmm. I would say that my favorite occupation would be as a musician or actress.
I prefer being an actress because I get to meet many new people and I get to do what I love, while at the same time I love music because I can express myself and how I feel to other people more easily without having the boundaries of "normal conversation". I get to have a melody, a tone and all other things that make music great.
It is the same problem I have with NYC over here. The city would be the most expensive place to live in the surrounding area, unless I didn't want to live in manhattan. I don't have any pets and I won't until I know that I am staying in a certain area for a long while. They can make it much harder to move around.
Being a musician or actor has potential to be very lucrative and fulfilling. XD
I'm not really into music for the profit, although I would hope that someday I can make enough money to support myself solely doing what I love instead of having to work a 9-5 job doing something I hate to support something I love. That's no way to live!
Hmm. I haven't really played any games in a while.
Most of my free time I spend either here, or on a mental health site I am a part of, or I spend my time playing on the ukulele, writing songs, drawing in charcoal or watching movies.
Haha well I actually want to go into audio production as a profession so in some ways I might try to get paid for music stuffs. I had a ukulele at one point, stopped using it once I picked up the guitar. I also have self taught piano skills.
Eventually I want to get back into playing dungeons and dragons. It can be a lot of fun with a good friends group and it would be a nice break from screen time. I also like going outside to swim and play with a Chinese yoyo or diablo.
What is your most favorite musical instrument that you don't know how to play?
there's a little something waiting for you to pick up at the trade window =3]
OMG thank you :3 Your donation has been acknowledged in the quest thread.
Also Ava The Vampire: I spend a lot of my time on youtube watching videos on handling anxiety. Some of them can be pretty helpful, but I have yet to reach out to others about it.

I have tried to pick up the guitar at one point in my life, but for some reason it was really painful to play. My hand that was switching the frets was so sore and I couldn't reach all of the strings to get the right sound. I have a keyboard, but I hardly ever use it. Right now it's wrapped up and in a box because we are moving, but once I move to LA I plan to use my keyboard for more than just singing practice.

Ah, that's pretty cool. :D I didn't know YouTube had videos on how to handle anxiety. As of right now, I am taking medication for my anxiety. It helps, but I'd love to learn natural ways of handling it too. I want to get back into Mindfulness meditation, that has helped me before in the past and doesn't have side effects like my medication does.
I spend a lot of time on YouTube too, but I usually watch vlogs of people that I admire or hair videos. I am biracial and I have really thick, curly hair that I don't know what to do with sometimes, so YouTube helps me learn how to take care of it and how to do cool things with it.
Most of my youtube time is spent watching people that cover current events. I have been really into looking at politics since the election has happened. Watching youtube and reading articles from various news organizations help me try to make sense of all the things happening within the country.
I used to take medication for my ADHD but once I turned 12 I ended up telling my parents that I did not want to take pills anymore. They listened and I started to look for other ways to calm down and focus.
I prefer getting my news from local sources because I find that the big news companies are usually biased and they also tend to showcase things for views and ratings rather than to keep people "informed"
If I do look at news at all, that is
I like to be aware about what is going on in my own community rather than concern myself with all the shit going down all across the country. It's waaay too overwhelming to keep up with and frankly, it makes me lose faith in humanity a little bit.
I've gotten a bit more into politics since this last election. I like trying to piece together everything thats going on. It can be difficult to follow though with all the different news outlets.
I like to get local news since it can be pretty hard to find any positive stories in national news. I feel that national is focused on events whereas local is focused more on daily life kind of things.
Yeah, I feel the same way about national vs local news. :D
Hmm, I have to admit, I've never played any of the games on Menewsha.
I've been meaning to, but every time I think about it, I go, "Meh, I'll try it later" and never get around to it.
Be sure to let me know when you get a chance to play them. I usually just end up playing snake. The other games are fun, but snake is the game where I feel that, if I was patient, I could get a high score.
What is the longest among of time you have stayed awake for?
I've played snake before on some other sites, so I am sure that I will enjoy that one a lot! I have gotten pretty good at it, but I will probably suck at it again as I haven't played it in a long time.
The longest I've ever stayed awake was three days. At the time I was in middle school and I had a laptop in my room and I would stay up all night and roleplay on Gaiaonline, then on the third day I fell asleep with my face on the keyboard. xD I was in school at the time too, so every day after I spent all night roleplaying, I had to go to school. I was so sleep deprived I didn't focus much in school.
