"I'd have come with you even if you did," Bucky said frankly, getting up and following her.

Kenzie snorted quietly and shook her head, instead glancing at the nearest camera.

"Jarvis, would you please let the others know, as well?"

"Of course," Jarvis agreed easily. "Good luck."

"Thank you." Kenzie smiled and headed for the elevator.

Bucky just walked with her, letting her set the direction and pace. He knew where they were going, of course; Steve had texted him from the cabin a few times.

It didn't take Kenzie too long to find the cabin, and she paused outside, observing for a few moments. Then she shook herself and went to go knock on the door.

There was a beat of silence after she knocked, and then Gemma opened the door and peeked out. She opened the door wider with a gasp.

"Kenzie!"

Kenzie smiled and immediately moved closer. "Gemma," she murmured, holding her arms open for a hug. "I've missed you."

Gemma stepped forward into the hug immediately.

"I was worried about you," she said. "You were gone for so long..."

"I know," Kenzie murmured, holding her close and rocking her back and forth a little gently. "I'm sorry. I had a few things to settle myself."

Gemma cuddled into the hug.

"You were gone so long I was starting to get afraid you wouldn't come back," she mumbled into Kenzie's shoulder.

Kenzie shook her head. "No, never," she murmured. "I would never do that to you." She started making a purring thrumming noise, soothing and low.

Gemma shuddered a bit and snuggled closer. After a moment, she reluctantly slipped away again.

"Come on," she said. "Come inside. I'm surprised Steve hasn't come to find out why I'm just standing in the doorway."

"Because I can hear you," Steve called from inside.

Kenzie nodded, ushering Gemma inside. "Come on, then. I'm sure we have much to discuss."

Gemma nodded and went back inside.

"Did... did the others tell you what happened?" she asked. She nibbled on her lower lip, a bit worried.

"A little." Kenzie shrugged. "Not much." She shook her head.

"Alright." Gemma still nibbled on her lip a bit. "Are you able to sense magic at all? I don't remember if you ever told me you could or not."

Kenzie shrugged. "Of a sort," she said. "I have my own brand of magic, and I can see the effects of magic. But in general, no, I cannot usually sense human magic beyond knowing if someone has it or not."

"Okay." Gemma hesitated a bit. "There was-- an incident. I don't remember a lot of it, and the rest is kind of a blur. But there was this-- sorcerer. He was using a ritual to kill other magic-users and steal their power." She glanced at Kenzie to gauge her reactions. "It backfired, somehow. Steve found me after-- after." Here, she hesitated again. "I still don't really feel like myself. And I couldn't risk staying at the shop, it's too dangerous for me to be there when I can't control it yet."

Kenzie had gone very still, and she looked at Gemma for a few moments. Wordlessly, she pulled Gemma into another hug, stroking her hair. This was something she could do almost nothing about, she was useless about human magic.

Gemma cuddled close to Kenzie. Kenzie was the one person she wasn't worried about hurting, no matter what happened. As far as she knew, dragons couldn't be hurt by human magic.

Bucky just stayed out of the way, letting the two reconnect.

"Surprised you're still out here in the back end of nowhere," he commented quietly to Steve.

Steve shrugged a bit. "I'm needed out here," he murmured. "More than in the city. Sam's been keeping me updated."

"Thought you'd'a talked her into coming back by now," Bucky replied, keeping an eye on the other two. He smirked. "Only took ya a week to talk the Commandos around to your side. Not losin' your touch, are ya?"

Steve snorted quietly. "Nah," he murmured. "Haven't been trying all that hard. Have to admit, being out here with her is nice."

"Always did have a thing for danger," Bucky said with a soft snort. He shot Steve a bit of a Look.

Steve snorted quietly. "We both know I'm hardly in much danger," he murmured. "Takes a lot to take me down, now."

"Yeah?" Bucky replied. "You been field-tested with whatever it is your girl can do?" He glanced at Kenzie and Gemma and then back at Steve.
