So who here commiserates with me on having their birthday too close to a major holiday that it's nearly overshadowed?
Love it? Hate it? Just here for the cake?
Iroase Delschatten: and llonka: for being my birthday buddies.

What's the fun in that?
You get more presents because it's a holiday and your birthday but...you kind of get overshadowed by the holiday.
Your birthday isn't as important as consumer spending.

You just assume there is double the presents... Most of the time it's "Oh hay. Since your birthday is so close to the holiday I got you this for both things."

Hahaha.
So it isn't what I assumed as a non-holiday birthday person.
Sucks for you. :P

And usually people get so wrapped up in the holidays that they forget about birthdays and I've had years where my Grandmother forgot to call to wish me a good birthday. T_T Mind you this was the same grandma that we had to blackmail into showing up to my graduation.

You blackmailed your grandma to show up to your graduation?
Did you threaten to keep her on life support if she's close to death or something?

We invited her sister-in-law instead.
My Poppy's sister has a junkie son who never did anything with his life so I'm basically her grandchild. She has no car since junkie sold it for drug money. And she really wanted to come to my graduation. My grandma has an rv that she was gonna take to the races instead of my graduation but Poppy made her take him and his sister to my graduation instead.

I'll ask a place and you respond with if it was good or not around Christmas when you celebrated it:
Your house/apartment:
Parents house:
Bars/Clubs:
Dark alleyways:
Hell:

Yes. Always good. And then my guy likes to spoil me on my birthday, makes a nice dinner and watches dumb movies/shows with me.
Sometimes. Depends on how much is going on. Christmas ends up being busy or forgotten. My mom's a nurse so some years she has to work christmas day and we have to wait until late at night to do any holiday things. Then it gets pushed into the next day and they try to make my birthday seem special but everyone is all tired from the holiday.
Never been to a bar or a club. :| I'm mega lame like that.
Fabulous time. Every time. Especially the traditional exchange of mystery liquors in brown bags.
He really has taken the holiday to the extreme. It's not the same as it was. It's just too overboard like he's trying to impress the neighbors. They get it already! You like the holiday!! No need to add another mile of lights to the house.

I definitely DO NOT get double the presents. Maybe by my family, but usually presents from other people are Merry Christmas and Happy birthday. lol I LOVE my birthday, born on December 28th, but I am always overshadowed by Christmas.

26th here and I understand. it usually comes down to "But the Holiday budget says one gift." forgetting that you'd get them one for their summer birthday and one for the holiday.

Exactly. It kind of makes me want to put Merry Christmas and Happy birthday on their Birthday card to see if they liked it and not got them anything, but I could never do something like that out of spite. I guess that is something I will never understand, but whatever. LOL.

^^^ What Long said.
2-in-1 presents are just (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
My birthday's on the 28th, so it's sitting in that perfect in between of Christmas and New Year's. After a while, I resigned to it, but yeah, like also what sjacklene said, the big celebration is all done during Christmas and after that it just feels like everyone goes "meh".

Anyone who's birthday is close to Christmas should have an "official birthday" at a different time of the year, like the Queen (and any other reigning UK monarch) does! Do it, guys!
Quote:
The Queen celebrates two birthdays each year: her actual birthday on 21 April and her official birthday on a Saturday in June.
Official celebrations to mark Sovereigns' birthday have often been held on a day other than the actual birthday, particularly when the actual birthday has not been in the summer. King Edward VII, for example, was born on 9 November, but his official birthday was marked throughout his reign in May or June when there was a greater likelihood of good weather for the Birthday Parade, also known as Trooping the Colour.
|
This is a splendid idea and you late December and early January babies should most definitely adopt it yourselves, particularly if you also have a parade and a military display.
