True, giraffes are pretty unusual animals, but I don't know...at least the scales&horns of the Qilin/Kirin are pretty well-explainable.

Fur-pattern and structure of a giraffe have something scale-like; furthermore, a giraffe has ossicones (basically, fur-covered horns), so that explains the horns. As to the fur-pattern, even moreso with the Somali giraffes--and surprise, surprise, the Qilins became more and more closely associated with giraffes after a Chinese voyage to East-Africa including what now is Somalia in the 15th century, from which some giraffes were brought back.

Front part is black, purple or blue, yes. Or in any case, distinctly not-pink not-light. Back part is pink.

The phoenix' history and inspiration is less clear because long-lived birds as well as birds associated with the sun or flames spring up in a fair few different ancient cultures that had some amount of contact with each-other, which means that different but similar mythologies influenced each other or even got conflated into a single entity. It is fairly clear that the Egyptian Bennu and Greek Phoenix have had at least some mutual influence on each other, though whether the two started out as separate entities or whether the Greek Phoenix is mostly based on the Bennu is unclear.

If the latter, then a species of heron most like was at the base of the Bennu and Phoenix both (though there seems to have been some association with a species of yellow wagtail as well) though other birds have had their influences later on.

In case of the "Chinese phoenix", which has pretty much nothing to do with the Greek Phoenix except being colourful, sort-of. In the more modern version, the tail is generally that of a peacock, though other parts are of other birds. Originally (think a few centuries BC), however, the fenghuang was an even weirder mix of animals than the Qilin or Greek Chimera. XD

Phoenix = complex matter. Middle-East/European phoenix based on peacock? Not really though some influence may have happened later on. Chinese "phoenix", not originally but these days, partially.

I have uber sick baby Eli. Poor Sharkie caught a bad tummy virus thats going around here. So we had to go to the er and all that. He has been miserable but he did actually ear and keep it down for the first time in 3 days.

Bleh! sorry to hear that, Ivvy. ;-; That stomach bug went around a couple weeks ago. I got it, wasn't fun AT ALL. Gave it to all my family members by accident. :P I'm glad to hear he's doing better, though!

Eli: Meh, lots of internet issues and then a motherboard that decided to call quits today (& power supply about to), but I thankfully already have a new pc. Otherwise, relatively well, I suppose.

Thanks Sil I appreciate it. And he is on the mend still icky but the meds keep him from throwing up constantly so he has been able to rest better now. And ick my computer fried the mother board and the power supply. Thats why I was waiting on the laptop to arrive during the event.

Thank you Eli, yeah we caught it soon enough to where only his dad caught it. Lenna had begining symptoms but we got her on the meds and it kicked it in the butt.

I am off to sleep you awesome people As I know I will be up a whole bunch with kiddo before daybreak. And its snowy weather here so I gotta keep the energy high lol. I shall pop in tomorrow if kiddos dont keep me running all day again like they did today.

I already knew that the motherboard and/or powersupply would give up some-day soon. Had hoped for them to hold out a bit longer so I could non-hurriedly pick out a new pc, but meh...not exactly unexpected, anyway.
Hard disk's still okay (though I had a good back-up just in case), so I didn't have to reinstall much either. (A handful of drivers, mostly those related to new hardware (though for some reason I also had to reinstall my wireless mouse's driver o.O) as well as a few other programs related to said new hardware. Everything else was still there and working)
