Legolas kept a good distance from her, determined to just watch from afar and not get caught himself this time. Her actions were confirming his suspicion that she was one of those with a past life who seemed to be cropping up.

Vena settled in one of the trees, just watching and listening. She could hear snippets of conversation drifting up to her.

"Hobbits?" she murmured to herself after a moment of listening. "Hobbits. Hobbits. I know what hobbits are. I swear I know what hobbits are. Why don't I know what hobbits are?"

Legolas smirked at that. Oh yes indeed, she had been from Middle Earth before. And with her ease in trees, he half-expected she had been a Sylvan Elf at some point. It really wouldn't surprise him at this point.

Vena didn't notice him there. She was still rolling the word 'hobbits' around in her head and inching out farther on the branch to get a better look.

"This is going to bother me," she murmured to herself. "I should know what hobbits are. Why should I know what hobbits are?" She growled in frustration.

Another of the guards (that weren't distracted by Rory) spotted Vena and called out, "I spotted another one!" But she didn't use English.

"Peace," Legolas replied. "The situation is under control."

Vena jerked when she heard the shout and nearly fell off of the branch before she steadied herself. She looked around quickly, eyes wide. That hadn't been English. She knew it hadn't been. And somehow, she'd been able to understand it.

Legolas noted her reaction and blinked. Well. That was something new. He dropped down out of his tree and approached hers, hands raised and notably empty.

"You can come down now. You're not actually in trouble."

Well. Busted. Vena carefully climbed down from the tree, watching him warily. She could clearly see the bow slung across his shoulders along with the quiver of arrows.

"If I'm not in trouble, why are you following me?" she asked.

"Keeping an eye," Legolas said with a fluid shrug. "You're not in trouble, but neither are you known to us." He smiled suddenly. "Although if you keep returning so frequently the latter problem will not take long to remedy."

Vena could feel her ears burning at that.

"You were in the other tree yesterday," she muttered. It wasn't a question.

"Indeed I was." Legolas smiled a little. "Come down, now, we can have some tea if you like while we talk."

For a brief instant, Vena almost dropped down out of the tree just on his urging. Something inside her told her that she had to listen to him, and she almost gave in before she shook herself out of it.

"How do I know you're not going to just drag us away and lock us up somewhere?" she asked instead.

"We're not in the habit of imprisoning people," Legolas said. "It would be difficult to explain disappearances, after all. I said we mean you no harm, and I mean it."

Vena studied him for another moment before reluctantly coming down from the tree. She had no proof that he was telling the truth, but somehow she knew he was. And it wasn't as if there was anything she could really do if he decided otherwise, anyways.

Legolas smiled. "See? Now we can actually have a conversation."

"Okay," Vena said, watching him warily. She eyed the bow across his shoulders with a mixture of caution and envy. It was a really nice bow. "So now what?"

"What brings you back here?" Legolas asked, watching her. He, at least, was still at ease.

"Curiosity," Vena offered cautiously. "I wanted to know more about this place."

"Why?" Legolas pressed, watching her. "It's a village out in the middle of the woods. Why would you care?" He tilted his head to the side a little.

"It's a village out in the middle of the woods," Vena responded, looking at him. "Not marked on any map and obviously warranting an armed guard. Wouldn't you be curious?"

Legolas smiled. "Perhaps," he agreed. "But this is a lot of trouble to go to. Most would have walked away by now, after being spotted on three separate occasions."

"I don't like giving up," Vena replied. She glanced around, looking back at the village. "I don't know why I need to know more, but I do. I swear I've heard the word 'hobbit' somewhere before, but the only thing I can place it in is a book I read in high school, and that doesn't make any sense here."

"Well," Legolas said, watching her, "You weren't wrong about hearing the word 'hobbit'. That is what these people are called, after all." He nodded towards the village, where a few hobbits could be seen watching curiously.

"I've come across the word somewhere else," Vena insisted. She was wracking her brain to try to figure it out, and sighed. "I'll remember it eventually." She looked at him. "So now what? Are you just going to let us go?"

"Well, I'd prefer if not keep sneaking back here," Legolas said. "It would be much easier if you let me know first so I can walk you around. They are rather wary of new people, here, so having an escort would be best."
