Catchy title, horrible and whiney.
It's just horrible tonight, everyone is just so whiney.
But none of them care about me.
It's just not fair that I'm whining alone in my beer.
But no one wants to whine with me here..... Cue the k pop country alternative remix machine....

Oh. I thought you knew Trap Queen. And that remix sounds so ungodly a ladybug would shiver at it.

I don't blame them! Some veggies look absolutely disgusting...
Like brussel sprouts! I've never eaten them in my life, but they look so yucky.

And most cooked veggies look gross. Like cooked kale and cooked broccoli!

But veggies are so yummy --- says the vegetarian.

I tried brussel sprouts once - they were bitter to me, but either you have the enzyme for them (that makes them taste good) or you don't. So that's ok. I can live without them.

We're working on it. xP

No--- no matter how many things you put on them, if someone does not have the proper enzyme, it will still TASTE bitter... to them. I did try them with lots of yummy flavors on them and they were still unbelievably bitter to me... No. Thank you.

Pisces is so right. I hated them as a kid, but now that I know how to cook them right, they're not so bad

Whatever, y'all can have them. They are one veggie that this vegetarian won't be eating.

lol, the bitterness comes from the stalk and outer leaves, so cut away as much of the stalk as you can and slice a cross onto it. then peel away the outer leaves. par boil them for fifteen to twenty minutes then roast them like you would potatoes. cooking them that way they actually come out tasting sweet rather than bitter

From a reputable website online:

Quote:
There’s one vegetable at the Christmas dinner table that’s always bound to elicit strong and contrary opinions: brussels sprouts. Much like marmite, they seem to conjure up a ‘love it or hate it’ sentiment; however, if you fall into the latter camp, there may actually be a chemical and genetic reason why you can’t stand the taste. Sulforaphane is the featured molecule today in the Chemistry Advent Calendar, but here we take a closer look at the some of the other chemicals found in brussels sprouts.

Before discussing brussels sprouts specifically, we actually need to look at a chemical that isn’t even found in them, phenylthiocarbamide (PTC). This synthetic compound is an oddity in that it tastes bitter – but only to around 70% of people. To the other 30%, it’s completely tasteless. This property of PTC was discovered by accident in 1931, when Arthur Fox, a chemist working for the chemical company DuPont, accidentally spilt some of the compound whilst he was working with it. His colleague, working nearby, complained of the bitter taste, but Fox was unable to detect it.
It is the actually brussels sprouts that are bitter... to some people (LIKE me). It isn't just poor preparation on my part. It isn't that they sprouts are bitter... but it is to do with the fact that I fall into that 70% to which they taste bitter. Not my fault. It's my genetics. So therefore, any amount of prep will still make them taste bitter to me.

To 70% of people they taste bitter!

You can have them all, no thank you - they're not for me.

I have enough other veggies to choose from that I'm not missing having taken brussels sprouts out of my diet all together. Not that they were ever really in there to begin with.
