Oh my goodness what an ordeal! I feel so sorry for you guys, you must have felt so unlucky dot-dot-dot or lucky? Anyway I'm glad neither of you were hurt and no one else was hurt and that you finally got it sort of taken care of. I thought of all those were really good cars mechanics. Maybe it was the place? Or just that mechanic? I sort of feel the need for comfort food after reading all that.

If you haven't noticed Scotty Kilmer on YouTube, then pay attention. He's brutally honest and hasn't sold out to some greedy corporation. In this video, Scotty explains how to spot shady mechanics. Watch and learn.

Toyota does make a few good vehicles for sure. Thank you for watching. I wish Scotty had a shop in my town.

I, too, liked the video...
Scotty reminds me of the BF...
The BF recently did 2 side jobs fixing people's cars because the shops were going to charge them outrageously and he did the work in less time and charged far less than the shops quoted.
One job was replacing a serpentine belt...it took him 20 minutes to do the work...
The shop was going to charge over $300. BF charged less than half that amount.

The hubris of those types of mechanics who overcharge has always drawn my ire. I remember them and never go back. I'm glad your bf took away the business of that crooked shop.

I don't know why it upsets Scotty Kilmer so much about customers bringing their own parts. It's been my experience that the shops that disallow customers to supply their own parts tend to be crooks because they may try to charge a markup price for parts that they order. I find this practice infuriating since the customer is already paying the retail price for the part in question. Warranty my pimply butt!

Just don't put a leather belt on your vehicle's pulleys.

Will somebody please tell that Delta fire along I-5 in northern California to extinguish itself immediately. Thank you.

I looked at a news story about that fire, Mr. Wrong:
How very scary! I hope you weren't in that area when the highway was overtaken!
I real that several truckers had to abandon their trucks and the trucks burned to the ground!
I hope they can get some containment on that fire soon!

Fortunately, I was well south of the fire when it began. I only learned of this fire from reading an electronic message board after leaving the Love's in Corning, California. Currently, I-5 is closed 10 miles north of Redding and up to Weed. The other night, I decided to shut down early in hopes of the interstate re-opening. Big mistake. Traffic was already diverted to CA 299 and around to 97 via 89. Well, there was a major wreck on 299, so decided to go around that whole mess. The route took me on a road that was DEFINITELY not intended for truck traffic.

But the drive was pretty. Now I can say I have driven through Burney, California. When I finally got back on 299, west bound traffic was backed up for twenty miles. No joke. Sure glad I wasn't caught in that mess. After the slow going through Burney, it was smooth sailing from there. Now, I am in southeast Washington and I have to deliver in Riverside, California and I'm not looking forward to being on 299 again.

Calgon, take me away!

Well, my drive through Oregon onto CA 299 and into Corning went smoothly. Getting to Riverside shouldn't pose any unusual challenges. After this delivery, I think I may go to Arizona and play in some rivers.

I always loved playing around the water. A creek, stream or river when I was a kid. I still love walking and relaxing by the water but of course at 64 I have to restrain myself from chasing paper cups and wildlife for fun. Sigh..... Adulthood.
