And Peanuts doesn't make you nostalgic?
I grew up watching the Peanuts movies!
I wore out all of my VHSs, my favorites being Come Home, Snoopy, A Boy Named Charlie Brown and Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown!.

I grew up with Peanuts.
My room when I was little had Joe Cool wall decor and I still have it up there to this day.
---------- Post added 11-21-2015 at 11:48 PM ----------
I know I talk a lot about being a proud, strong, independent, black woman....
But there are days were I sometimes really, really hate it.
I mean, I don't hate being black because I really can't help but be black...
But I hate how people treat you when you're black. I hate how racist the world can be and how people can be so mean for no reason other than that I don't look like them...
I'm not experiencing racism right now. I'm all good.
I just finished watching The Help for like the fifth time and I am remembering all the racism I've experienced in life and it makes me so sad.
That is why I want to leave America. I know the race issue isn't as big as I'm making it seem, but I don't want my children to grow up in a place where they can't even trust the police will protect them because they're black, or that they'll one day get old enough to date and they'll have to hear a white person that they really love say, "sorry I don't date black people". I couldn't bear to have that happen to them. Or the worst ever... that other black people won't accept them because of the way they talk or because of the way they dress or their hair texture or whatever.
America is still a baby country... There's too many kinks that need to be worked out before I'd let my children live here.
But maybe I should be less concerned about children and more concerned about my own butt. Still, it feels like most of the world is over the race issue, but America is still stuck in the 50s. I mean... seriously, when is America going to grow up!?

the issues you speak of happen all over the world, even here in the UK racism is still prolific. maybe not so much in London, and certainly not to the level of countries that had segregation or apartheid (America, Australia, South Africa etc), but there are still places in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales where the people have never even seen a black, Asian or Arabic person in real life. people are scared of what they don't know/understand, and they wear racism as a shield against that. it works both ways too, the people of all races are racist to a certain degree. I know black grandmothers who frown on their grandkids for being in a relationship with white partners, and oriental people are universally known as the forbidden fruit of the dating game. Asian Indians are even racist within their own culture and have a cast system derived from family lineage, wealth, and the darkness of skin. the human race is just screwed up. we should be more like dogs, they don't see colour or race within their own, just another dog. though there is a walkaround. I learned long ago that the only way to combat racism is to educate people about the unknowns of your race. the differences and the similarities, the customs and traditions, the things that make you you and them them. because knowledge is the most powerful weapon in a human's toolbox

My dear ava.
It hurts me to know you're telling the truth.
I really had thought we mostly had that behind us.
Recent events is the news show me just how wrong I was.
Racism is alive and will on all fronts. From the kkk to the 5% club.
I worry about my grandson. He's a bi racial baby.
All I can do is teach him Jesus, what he said, not what the idiots say he said. And I'm teaching him to box... Just in case.
Thomas Jefferson when asked about his own slaves replied, when I remember that God is just,I shutter got the future of our nation.

Well, tomorrow it's a busy day.
I'll sweep and swab the decks in anticipation of Thursday.
The girls will handle the cooking.
I'm expecting a good day.

Tomorrow is thanksgiving
I am making a vegetarian roast that is made with kale, rice and fake chicken. :)
Then I'm making purple mashed potatoes, yams, asparagus, macaroni and cheese and homemade biscuits.
I'm super hungry just thinking about it.

that sounds really tasty (not the derples, you already know my feelings on that), but what is fake chicken?
there are people renovating the place upstairs, and one of the apprentice carpenters put his foot through the floor into my bathroom's ceiling when they took up the old floorboards above it. they did eventually patch it up with a piece of misshaped plasterboard and plastered over the patch, but they still need to plaster over the whole ceiling, paper it, and then paint it. and before my slumlord sees it too, or it comes out of my deposit. its taken this long because the subcontractors who did it are reluctant to do any work they're not being paid for, even though it was their mistake. in fact, they've gone on the missing list without collecting the last of their pay. the guy who's place it is now has had to pay someone else to do it, and he's coming on Friday. as long as it gets done I don't really care about the politics, I just want them to put everything back the way it was before clubfoot went on a rampage. fingers crossed, eh

not sure how well you can see it, but the white section is where they've covered over the hole (I think his whole leg came through), and to give it some perspective, the rail you see is the shower rail that goes all the way around the bath

So...how does it come out of your deposit if you weren't the one who caused the damage?
It HAS been a long time! It should have been repaired and restored long before now!
I think I would be nervous about pieces of the ceiling falling down on me!
You must be an awfully nice guy to have not demanded it be repaired....like YESTERDAY!....complete with foot stamp and a closed fist slammed against an open palm!! Lol!
I will be travelling to my oldest daughter's house for Thanksgiving....she is making a bacon covered turkey.
I don't really like turkey....but it sounds a little better than "fake chicken!" Lol!
I imagine that if I weren't such a carnivore, fake chicken would sound a lot more tasty!
Purple potatoes sound cool! I've never had those!
I will be avoiding cooking, if at all possible! Lol!

lol, I'm sure my dodgy landlord would find a way to make me pay, its kinda his MO
your thanksgiving dinner sounds alot like Christmas dinner here. I usually have a turkey leg reserved for me, and as long as I get that, everybody else can do whatever they want with the rest of the bird

"Fake chicken" is basically like... Soy protein that is flavored like chicken. (But it doesn't actually taste like chicken, the texture is too different)
It's basically tofu. c:
It's really good, though. This particular roast is called the Holiday Roast by Gardein and I've never had it before, but I'm hoping it'll be delicious. 8D
I have always assumed that purple potatoes are healthier than the white potatoes, but I mean, who knows? Maybe they are the same in unhealthiness, they are just purple. Lol. But they will make the holiday table look pretty.
Menelaus you should give the workers who are fixing your ceiling some food! But don't give it to them until they are completely done working. :o Food usually motivates people to get things finished.

lol, I know right, I gave them a Guinness last time. maybe that was the problem, too drunk to work. but they're all Jamaicans, so I thought a cold bottle of Guinness might motivate them. next time all they get is a sandwich

My mom is getting homesick.
If it were my aunt cooking Thanksgiving dinner, she'd make cooked collard greens (yuck!), cornbread, red beans and rice, fried chicken (with coconut, that's my grandma's secret), fried oysters, crawfish, and can't forget the sweet potato pie. :O
My dad still eats meat, so he's having oysters, and my mom sucks at cooking so there won't be any cornbread or red beans and rice or sweet potato pie or collard greens. c:

Collard greens, prepared properly, are pretty good!
I make a pretty good sweet potato pie....its pretty easy...just substitute mashed sweet potatoes for pumpkin puree in a pumpkin pie recipe.
You can cheat and buy pre-prepared pie crust.
And cornbread is easy to make, too!
Why don't you make one or both?....somebody should carry on the family tradition!
I'm not fond of oysters....but the rest of that spread sounds divine!
I would choose coconut fried chicken and crayfish over turkey, if I could!
I don't do tofu....the texture tends to make me wanna gag....spoiling any other food it might accompany.
Its always the stuff that's supposed to be good for ya that I can't seem to swallow!
Oh well....when I die, my taste buds will have had a full life! Lol!

The smell of collard greens makes me want to gag.
I hate them with a burning passion. Ever since I was little, I have always hated collard greens. Yuck! Thankfully my mom wasn't the type of mom to force you to eat all of your food before leaving the table, so I never had to eat them... But they smell and look disgusting.
Yuck, they're all slimey and uhuhgughgh...
I can't handle that.
But oh my god, my auntie makes the best fried chicken. I sometimes miss it on those rare days when I start missing meat. But I don't like the way I feel after eating a ton of fried chicken, I feel fat and I feel disgusting and the worst of all I feel totally drained of energy. D: I feel like I just ran eight miles and I need to lay down and sleep. xD
