Forgive me. I don't pay much attention to the award shows, but if there's a problem it should b addressed.
U know, I really thought we were past all that petty racial crap.
It's hurts& shames me to have Learned I was Wrong.
It's unthinkable that President Obama is hated by so many Americans over race.
I voted the green party ticket, but because I'm a socialist.
But I was content to have Obama b president simply because he won fair and square. & he's fine a good job. If give him a8 outta 10.
Who do u think will win this November? I'm hoping for Bernie but will vote for Clinton if she gets it.
Loooooooord anyone but Trump.

I always think of American elections as more of a popularity contest, unlike our elections in Britain, where its all about the issues. the last 'likeable' Prime Minister we had in power turned out to be a snake in the grass and sold us all up the river like kippers, smoked and packaged. now we only vote in people we already dislike

I am a person of color. I was raised in straight-up white country, Salvete, but nobody taught me to care, so I didn't, and now I can't. I don't feel different from a white kid. I never felt like a misfit or inferior if no one else around me had dark skin or I didn't see any black dolls or show characters. I didn't think about it. I see all skin colors as equal, but detecting people who think otherwise isn't part of my conscious thought process.
/but when I found out about caring for straight hair, I was MAD, brother

As long as you haven't experienced people treating you differently for being a person of color, I guess it's not something you would notice.

Amane, you and I think very much alike on this subject....though I am not a person of color.
I was once horribly insulted by my friend's teenaged son...he was of Mexican Native American descent...when he called me a "honky!"
I asked him why he felt he needed to bring my skin color into our discussion, and he told me that all white people were honkies that looked down on anybody who wasn't white!
I had a really hard time convincing him that I truly don't see a "color" when I see people of other races...that I would only use skin color to describe someone's appearance to someone else, much as I would describe someone with blonde hair....
But, he was so filled with his own prejudice that he wouldn't listen to me....
He wound up in a gang and in jail before long after that....go figure!
People are people....no matter what tone their skin color might be....and we could all do well to treat all people like people based on their merits, not their appearance.

Do you think there is a bigger picture issue of systemic racism? which is why there are a disproportionately low number of people of color in the top colleges and top earning professions? *curious to know your thoughts*

I don't know, but I'm a simple man regarding racial social issues.
All men r created equal in the eyes of God.
Everyone should b equal under the law.
Everyone should have equal opportunities to try. To pursue their chosen field of endeavor .
Any superficial judgements on my part tend to b based on presentation and or instinct.
I don't feel any better or any worse than any one else on the planet.

Because I've had bad experiences with most other people of color, I am more inclined to connect with people because I like them, and less because of the color of their skin.
HOWEVER.
I do believe that black people and other people of color as a whole are largely misrepresented in media and are being denied many great opportunities to change those stereotypes.
I don't really care about the Oscars, because to me, Oscars isn't even a race thing anymore, it's more the fact that only an elite group of people (old, white men) get to vote and the nominees are always based on numbers and NOT talent. So that doesn't bother me. That isn't to say that I don't think black people shouldn't receive awards for their talent, but I think an award doesn't really show how great of an actor someone is.
And throughout my childhood I was always treated differently by both black AND white people, so I felt different always. I am biracial and my black family always thought of me as different and saw me as "white", while my white friends saw me as their "black friend" and they always made sure that I knew I was black. Heh, right, as if I couldn't just wake up and go to a mirror and see I was black.
So I get hate from both ends and I always feel different.
I don't like it when ANY person of ANY ethnicity makes anyone feel different.

Well, I think it's again a matter of no opportunity for people of color.
I think there'd be a lot more people of color in office and running companies if they were given the positions to get opportunities to do so.
There aren't very many black people in rich neighborhoods, let's face it. Many politicians are wealthy and come from wealthy families. Then, most big companies are run by people with money, as to get the company off its feet. I'm not saying that black people don't have money, I'm sure there are many black people who do live in wealthy homes and do have connections, but I mean, it's not very common.
We get shows like the Cosby Show and Fresh Prince of Bel Air that show black people leading aristocrat lives and many people complain the shows aren't realistic for black people in the United States. I mean, why can't they be realistic? Is it really so hard to believe that a black family can live a life of luxury like that?
I think most black people don't get the opportunities to run big companies or run for office because there aren't very many black people in those positions where they can get opportunities like that.

We're blessed that his paternal grandmother Is loving and generous with both my grand children. My granddaughter is a10 year old Blue eyed blonde.

they call that 'the cycle of poverty,' aka 'the development trap.' its the socially engineered phenomena where set factors or events of poverty, ie, generations of poor families living in poor neighbourhoods, are likely to continue for future generations, unless there is outside intervention. there's not enough time for that family unit, as a whole, to gain the intellectual, social, and cultural capital necessary to stay out of or change their impoverished condition, and the fact that these families have either limited or no resources eg; financial capital, education, or connections, as well as other disadvantages, collectively work in a circular process, making it virtually impossible for individuals to break the cycle. not having access to economic and social resources as a result of this poverty often increases their poverty level, and the poor remain poor throughout their lives. of course, its not just restricted to minorities, but it does seem to be more prevalent in those circles, and probably where the expression "don't let the man get you down!!" comes from
on a lighter note... the more I delete things off my phone, the less memory space I have. what's up with that!??

Yes, I would agree that poverty and lack of opportunity are some of the major reasons for the racial disparity.

My dad has that same problem with his phone!
I think they build them that way so that you keep coming back for a new, better phone every year. :P
