My dad worked mostly all night and wouldn't come home until about 3-4am so I slept with my mom up until I was in the 2nd grade and then I slept with her on and off for another year.
I think there is nothing wrong with co-sleeping, in fact it's better for the child to be close to their mother and when they are ready they will become independent.
