I suppose I had an Ok childhood. we were an underpoverished single parent family, my mum worked two jobs, my brother beat ten tons of crap out of me at every opportunity, and the only time we lived in one place for more that six years I had moved out to start a life of my own by the seventh (aged nineteen) but hardship is the master of necessity, and it was necessary for me to grow up fast. I could do all of the household chores before I was six years old (including, but not limited to, ironing shirts, hand washing clothes, changing light bulbs, re-wiring plugs, and preparing a family meal) and I was pretty independent by the age of eight, maybe nine. so its likely that those factors play a big part in my premature memory retainment

I remember as far back as my third birthday, Ava. And a few seconds when I was an infant, I'm pretty sure. I have a memory of my parents at the kitchen sink while I watched them from the high chair, and the big light's on, and I hear water running.

though, alot of people don't remember their childhood at all. I had some clients in for a group parenting session a little while ago, and upon being asked certain questions about their own youth, only one out of the nine could clearly describe events before the age of seven

I don't remember my life passed five. But my dad filmed me everyday for five minutes up until I turned three.
So, I have seen my childhood before five. I don't remember it except for when I see footage of myself. But other than that, I don't remember much from my childhood at all.

I remember a lot of the bad stuff that I wish I could forget. And I remember some really amazing times like when my parents took me rock climbing and when I would go to the beach with my cousins and when I would watch the sunset with y best friend.

But those memories are probably really exaggerated because of trauma, so... It's whatever. I don't trust my good memories anymore. But it's still nice to think of them. :)

This thread is just so interesting to read!
I'm pretty sure that some of my childhood memories are from before I was 3...some stand out as extraordinarily scary and others really awesome...but mostly ordinary everyday kinda memories...
I find that my 2 and a half year old granddaughter does stuff that makes me "flashback" and remember doing the same stuff.
Also, that same granddaughter remembers and tells me about stuff she remembers from a year ago....and she anticipates future by waiting for Saturday to come, when her mom n dad are expected to arrive to take her for the night....and she anticipates who she will see when she will be away.
I think we are socially conditioned to not remember our early childhood because it might be considered a frivolous use of the memory...and when ya don't use things, they fade away. When was the last time you needed to recall a memory of when you were 3 to remedy a situation in present time?
I think we remember the things we remember to use as learning tools for the future and the stuff we forget must be stuff we won't need to draw from, so it hits the trash bin.
...but that's just MY two cents worth! Lol!

Looks like society failed to condition me, then.

I often feel like I have past life memories as well. I used to have more.

My mom&dad chronicled me & my siblings childhood through pics & through vids from the camcorder. So when I go through the family photo albums & look at old pics from my childhood, its like my memories instantly start to reconnect & one memory leads to another & than another. This doesn't happen with every photo but with alot of them.

I clearly have a memory of waking than standing in my crib. Mom walks in to get me. Picks me up then carries me to the bathroom for a bath. I would say I was at least 2-3 since I was still in a crib & I remember we were getting ready for church.

Idky but I have tons of mems from early childhood, but if u ask me something about an event or occassion from last month, I will have the hardest time attempting to recall it.

We have a ing ton of videos, the the freezer part of the refrigerator is literally so covered in photos (and fancy magnets) you can't see the freezer. I've never watched any of the videos. None of us have. According to folklore, they're for us to look back at fifty years from now when we care two cents about each other.

I kind of like watching movies of myself from when I was younger,
It's kind of funny to think that I was once such a happy kid!

lol, you should feel happy that its birds (who are nature's alarm clock) and not the dustbinmen emptying the bottle bin for the winebar they've recently built next door to my house. every morning between four and five a.m. they come around in their noisy 'beeping as it backs up' truck, and pleasantly wake me to the glorious sounds of breaking glass en masse

movies to watch: 44inch Chest. a star studded cast of 'old school' London gangsters and their finest. I give this film a nine out of ten for casting alone (though Ray Winstone's character it a little bit apologetic), and two thumbs up for seat planting watchability .

Can't count the amount of times I've died over Key recently. His new hair colors are tearing my life apart.

I have many thoughts tumbling about past lives.

Why do these beautiful men do this to us?!
I can't handle so much beauty, so much sweetness, so much quirkiness...
My brain cannot compute! Abort abort.

Past lives are interesting to think about.

that awkward moment when you try to exit through a closed glass door, or you pull the push door even though it's clearly signed
