I used to live in "the hood,"...where most of the residents were either Welfare recipients or gang-bangin' drug dealers...and there were lots and lots of kids...
Some times the ice cream trucks would come around two, three...even four times a day....always playing that tinny sounding song through the loud speaker....usually the song would be slow, like the batteries had run down on the tape player! Lol!
Then ya add the sound of the jangling bells on the push-carts that the Mexican men would push around....some filled with flavored ice and unique flavors of ice cream, like cantaloupe!,...and others had hot corn on the cob that they would roll in mayonnaise and parmesan cheese (yum!).
Between the jingle jangle of the bells and the slow song on the ice cream truck,...and the kids screaming cuz nobody had money to buy the stuff....Oh my!
I live far away from all that, now...No ice cream trucks or vendors on foot...
But, if one were to drive about 15 miles south of my house, one could order an ice cream cone from a building that looks like a giant hot dog!...the place is called Coney Island and peeps line up for treats all the way around the building when the weather gets hot...which, at 9000 feet above sea level, isn't all that often! ....Lots of tourists and peeps escaping the city heat come for the experience and to cool off in the mountains.
Oddly enough, I have yet to visit the giant hot dog...but it sure looks cool all nestled against the foot of a mountain!
So...now I gotta buy ice cream at the store...cuz we have none in the freezer and I'm craving it, now!
My favorite is Blueberry Cheesecake....and I can feel my pants getting tighter just THINKING about it! Lol!
