The writing on the wall has been pretty apparent lately.

And after the falling out between Hideo Kojima and Konami, many wondered what the fate of Silent Hills would be, but today it's been made official.

Silent Hills has been canceled.

As someone who's been a huge fan of the franchise for fifteen years, I am so disappointed. Howdy's little heart is broken. :(

And to add insult to injury, the P.T. Demo will be removed from the Playstation store in two days. On Wednesday, April 29th. So if you have a PS4 and have not downloaded the demo, you definitely should. It's a masterful piece of horror and free of charge, to boot.

I don't know if this is true, but I read that you can still download the demo, even if you don't have a PS4. All you need is a PSN account. This is what I did. Searched for the Playstation Store online and added the game to my downloads.

Supposedly, this way if you get a PS4 in the future, you can still play the game. I hope so.

And yet, Metal Gear will live on. Just because the universe is that full of hate for some franchises.

Sad news, but it could be good for the folks at Kojima Productions. Konami hasn't been putting out quality stuff in years anyways.

Also, this news is creepy since I decided to watch a SH3 LP on Sunday out of the blue before the story even broke.

Are there any details on what exactly transpired between Kojima and Konami? Not that it really matters, I guess, but I feel like I need more explanation for why I'm being deprived of watching someone else play this game.

This also makes me sad for Kojima. From what I've heard/read (I don't remember where), he's pretty tired of MGS and wants to do other things, but doesn't really get to. I was excited for him to branch out and do something new. Plus, since my guy is a big MGS fan and, of course I'm a SH fan, this game was something we were both excited about and looking forward to. I was looking forward to us playing it together and being shrieking pansies through the whole thing.

I can't say I really know myself. From what i've read, it all seems pretty obscured why the two split. I'm sure there's someone out there who knows better than I do.

Like you said, maybe he tired of being the Metal Gear guy.

I haven't played a lot of MGS. A few. But what I did play, I enjoyed. So I knew Kojima had the chops to make a good game. And I was really excited to see where he and Guillermo Del Toro were going to take the game.

Now i'm willing to admit a few sidesteps, but I am a Silent Hill loyalist and I find it hard to say anything bad about the series. But after Downpour, I knew something had to change. And the prospect of what Silent Hills could be gave me so much hope.

The biggest reasons behind the split is Konami wanting to get out of the games business as they actually don't make as much money from video games anymore. Most of their revenue nowadays comes from pachinko machines. The second reason for things going the way it went is because of Konamis management shakeup alongside the fact that Kojima just has had issues with management as a whole.

There might be more but that's the two main reasons for the split. Could be more but it's just not known.

Please tell me you're kidding.

Howdy, how WAS Downpour? I remember watching the first trailer when it came out... and then it sort of fell of my radar and I forgot about it completely.

Their focus is everything but video games. They're slowly moving away from games.

Yeah, a lot of people are saying that Konami is more interested in their health clubs and pachinko machines and stuff.

Makes you wish they would just sell their IPs to someone who cares.

Like I said, i'm a Silent Hill loyalist through and through, so I find it hard to say anything bad. I liked the game, but it felt lacking.

The most evident example were the enemies. There were relatively few and they didn't feel like they belonged in the SH universe. It seemed to me they would have been more at home in a game like Condemned.

Hey, don't be afraid of writing me an essay on the matter. What was off about the monsters? Was the game still scary? Compelling story?

I just on IGN that the one most disappointed at the cancellation is Guillermo Del Toro himself. He really liked working on it and was looking forward to it. I think he has a blog about it.

Have you seen the Mega64 video where they're making fun of konami removing Playstation listings on ebay that have P.T installed on them?

Cherry Who?: Why did I not get back to you on this?

Well after so many Silent Hill games, you come to expect the enemies to be realized in a certain way. Fleshy, twisted, abstract nightmarish things. --- Most of the enemies in Downpour, of which there isn't a great variety, are humanoid. Their designs seem comparatively simplistic and feel more like mutants or science experiments. Like I said, they would seem to fit better in a game like Condemned. --- The otherworld also doesn't feel as special, especially when you're running from the Void, which is a vortex of light that chases you and tries to suck you in.

The story, I think, is the game's strongest asset. But it's kind of what you would come to expect from a Silent Hill game. Loss and redemption. So it's not very groundbreaking as the series goes.

And 'scary' is subjective. But I would say it felt a bit tamer than some previous installments.

This was more than a little disappointing but as someone said, it was kind of expected. I wonder what this means for the future of Silent Hill games?

I didn't like Downpour either. It wasn't as good. I like the Nurses and Pyramidhead way better than them. I almost think they should stop making them anyway if they're not going to even make them look like Silent Hill games any more. Even Shattered Memories was more fun to play.

Kind of like Resident Evil, they keep thinking that changing and being innovative is the way to go, but sometimes the phrase "If it's not broke, don't fix it" kind of applies. Resident Evil five and six were both lack luster games as they were more action oriented; however, Revelations was at least a bit closer to the roots than the those two. Resident Evil Revelations Two...oh it is a good game with a very interesting story line for sure!

Ah, okay, that makes sense. So maybe a better game if it didn't bear the Silent Hill name. I sort of have that feeling about some of the newer Final Fantasy games - perfectly good games, but there has been a thematic change from the ones I grew up with so I sort of reflexively snub my nose at them.

Cherry Who?: After FFXIII I lost a lot of my enthusiasm for the Final Fantasy series, so I really hadn't been paying attention to all the stuff about FFXV.

But I watched some of the demo they released called Episode Duscae, and it looks really good.

And what turned it for me, was the Ramuh summon. One of the things I really loved about VII, VIII, IX, X and XII were the over the top summons. I revel in the theatrics of them. And I felt that was really lost in FFXIII.

But the Ramuh summon in the FFXV demo is amazing. And I could just feel myself getting excited watching it.
