"Just like that?" Cameron asked, blinking. "Am I the only one who thinks this is weird? I mean, not that I'd complain about a gorgeous dress, but don't Normal People not go to these kinds of things, usually?"

"I was a Normal Person once," Pepper said dryly. "And then I met Tony. Besides, you're less normal than most, which works in your favor, I assure you."

Tony grinned. "You did say you'd go," he said, sing-song, to Cameron. "You agreed."

"I know," Cameron replied, giving Tony a bit of a shove. "Okay. Anything on the green-blue-purple end of the spectrum will work. Jewel tones or darker."

"Perfect. I'll have it by tomorrow morning." Pepper hung up.

"I love it when this happens," Tony said, still decidedly gleeful.

"Does this happen often?" Cameron asked, slightly dazed. Everything was happening so quickly that she wasn't entirely sure what exactly was going on anymore.

"Not as often now," Tony said with a shrug. "But once in a while, yes, it still happens."

"What did just happen?" Cameron asked, looking at him. "What, exactly, did I agree to?"

"You agreed to go to the party with me tomorrow night," Tony said with a grin. "Nothing too dangerous."

"What does that mean, though?" Cameron asked, her hands absently playing with one of the little foam balls from before. "Like, what does it entail?"

Tony shrugged. "Walking around, pretending to be arm candy, maybe making some conversation. Probably avoiding a lot of pointed questions about our relationship. The normal."

"I love how you think I could ever pass as arm candy," Cameron said with a snort. "Not in a million years."

Tony gave her a bit of a look, but he didn't argue now. He knew when to pick his battles. Sometimes.

"It's not hard, and this one won't be dangerous, I promise. Unless someone pisses me off, and even then it won't be dangerous for you."

"No, I just get to try to keep you in check," Cameron replied. She shook her head a bit. "Well, hopefully it'll go alright and nobody will ask too many questions about why it's me there and not some Scandinavian model or something."

"I'll come up with some reason they'll accept," Tony said with a shrug. "I've got time, and it's not like I haven't brought people to a party who weren't expected before." He shot her a grin.

"I doubt you've brought an actual normal person before," Cameron pointed out, flicking another foam ball at him. It bounced harmlessly off his forehead.

Tony swatted it away. "I brought Pepper, back when she was just my assistant," he said. "That's close."

"Not quite," Cameron argued. She was quiet for a moment. "I just hope I don't screw anything up for you, that's all."

Tony shook his head. "You won't. Trust me, kid, you won't." He grinned a bit. "I've already done just about everything possible to sabotage myself, you can't do any worse, unless you leave me to take the blame for levitating something."

"That would be the exact opposite of why I'll be there," Cameron pointed out, grinning a bit. "Otherwise you're wasting money on a dress for nothing. And don't call me 'kid,' it's weird."

"You're right, that is weird, not doing that again," Tony said. "So, yes, other than that, you can't screw me over." He grinned at her. "Just try not to hit me more than once or twice."

"Nope, I'll just distract everyone with some brilliant display of levitation and probably break something rare and expensive," Cameron replied, grinning teasingly.

"Sounds good to me." Tony grinned at that, because he was absolutely not bothered by that in the least. "Just, y'know, warn me if it's something that might explode."

Cameron snorted.

"I leave the explosions to the experts," she said, grinning. "My mishaps are usually more with fragile things. China, crystal, porcelain, that sort of thing."

"Nothing too dangerous, then," Tony said with a grin. "Good." He paused as something else occurred to him.

"You know there will be reporters there, right?"

Cameron groaned a bit.

"Really?" she asked. "You couldn't have warned me about that before?" She made a face.
