Well she was a high risk pregnancy anyways, and had trouble with her sugar from like the get go. Along with other issues. But they expected it since she had the same problem with the last two pregnancies.

They do blood tests at certain weeks pregnant and urine samples usually bi-weekly unless there is a reason to do them more frequently. That tests for certain proteins and sugars. I actually worked with a girl who delivered her twins at 25 weeks. ;o They were like 1 lb and 2 ounce each or something like that. Like holy cow I couldn't even imagine! They just now are getting released from the hospital. the 21st of this month, so tomorrow would of be her actual due date. They are like 3 months old already.

The earliest that hospitals have been able to save babies are 22 weeks. Usually not the case though. I mean their survival rates are super low anytime before like 32 weeks. And then every week past 32 weeks it goes up dramatically and anything after 36-37 weeks you're pretty much in the clear it's like a 95% rate. It's insane how tiny they can save babies. When she showed pictures when they were in the NICU they didn't even really look like a baby, but more like a bright red little fetus thing. Which technically it they were only a month and a half even into being considered a fetus from an embryo. ;o

I know. I've followed their facebook story since it happened. I didn't really know the girl that well other than we got hired on at the same time and were due like days apart. It's just insane. ;o

They still are probably going to have health and mental problems throughout their lives. I mean they may not, but there is a good chance. Specially anything pertaining the the lungs. Never really know about mentally though.
I'm just thankful I wasn't the one going through that.

No no, they made an actual facebook page to cover their little girls journey. I don't even have her as a friend on facebook. They did that so people could be informed and aware that babies can survive that young and to share their story. Ended up on the news here and everything. ;P

Not something I would have done, but it was still cool to get updates and see how the girls were doing.

Yeah I hope it's not too bad for them either. Specially have twins like that. But you don't really know what developemental disorders will arise.

I also prefer to keep personal matters personal. But depending on how they handled it, their FB might lend a little strength and/or knowledge to other parents in the same situation. And they might be able to get some support to help raise the children, since it probably cost a lot to keep them in the hospital that long.

Yeah, I'm not sure how everythings worked out for them, but seems they've had a lot of support. I'm sure their insurance covered the costs though. And if they didn't have their own children are usually covered under Medicaid. But I don't know those details so I couldn't say. I know that my insurance covers my child birth and my child after he's born.
