I've had this video in my watch later for MONTHS
because it's so long.
But i am desperate to just...get answers and grow. and kinda find a way around my fear.

Watching videos can be pretty helpful, yeah

I just wish the tutorials on SAI could be more clear since I don't even know the basics of how to get a brush to function, but the videos all assume you already know that and just jump straight to the drawing. ;;

Yeah and it feels like helping.

Normally just clicking a brush and making a canvas helps and your brushes are able to be useable in SAI.

Weird, I tried a bunch of stuff and nothing worked. The closest I got was this weird angle thingy that made curves.

Your probably using the curve tool.
I can't really help without knowing what your clicking and such.

It's okay...that was on my last computer back when I was trying out different art programs besides Photoshop. I think I got a copy of Photoshop around here somewhere so I'll just stick to that. That or FireAlpaca which was recommended to me.

I love photoshop.
I switched to photoshop recently and have all these nice brushes i downloaded.
I'm so excited to use them.

I dont really recommend fire alpaca.
i mean for beginners i do, but it doesn't have many texture brushes
if your wanting to digital paint. if it's for sketching it works pretty nicely.

I guess it should work for me since I'm a beginner in terms of drawing skills I don't even know how to use different brushes for the most part, I usually just stick to the one. (unless you mean the special effects brushes like the leaves and grass type of brushes?)

I'm most used to Photoshop, but it's kind of hard to get at times.

I'm still learning how to use texture brushes.
the most i can do is add sparkles[which are the sort of scatter brushes]
and leavy brushes as a BG.

I am learning blending though.
Well in PS you don't need to use literally every tool.
It can be overwhelming. For me The only things I use are the regular brush and mixer brush, eraser, and liquify.
I don't know how to use liquify to my advantage yet though.
it's a learning process

Yeah, I like the grass brush since manually drawing grass would take forever and not look as good.

I only recently learned how to liquefy thanks to our teacher who mentioned it in passing, mostly I just stick to the regular brush, eraser, and the color changers for coloring.

Yeah true. but it's a learning process.
but it all depends what kind of art you want to do or if you just wanna doodle and have fun.
I want to be a freelance artist and attempt/learn semi-realism. So I have much to learn.

I recently learned how to use the mixer brush which is where the regular brush is and you just
right click it and it's at the bottom.

@Bats: Yeah, becoming a freelance artist that lives off their art (or at least partially lives off of) definitely takes a lot more work than just doodling as a pastime.

What does the mixer brush do?

Aw thank you Amane! I wanted to do something that sort of reminded me of the whole 'silent night' song and this came out ;;

@Antagonist
Yup so I have to really work hard at it.
and i really also just want to create my own content and have my own merch. and maybe
have a book one day

It blends colors. Blending is needed when you paint digitally.

That would be amazing to do and have someday.
I'd love to have my own merch as well, if I ever decide to live off of my artwork. Like the little pins, coffee mugs, and T-shirts that I see a lot of artists have on tumblr. Those are pretty cool.

Ohh. I'll have to figure out how to use it someday. I've only done flat colors so I've never had need for blending before.

I pretty much just want stickers and phone cases. and maybe keychains.
But idk what i would design tbh. i think only stickers and prints will sell tbh.
I am not really very good with designing things other than ideas for prints.

It's pretty simple to use and different brushes do different things.
there is also youtube videos on using the mixer brush.
i've tried it myself a couple of times. but actually using it in an actual painting will be most challenging.

You could start with prints and then expand from there I guess? See what the people are after and then give them what they want and go from there I suppose.

Thanks, I'll look up those YouTube videos and see what the mixer brush's all about.

Probably but i'm not that creative of a person and kinda lack the designing ability tbh
So I probably won't be able to afford
to do everything for a long while

okie dokie.

Maybe start small with one or two designs and then gradually expand? Or take commissions which might help?

Maybe. But commissions, prints, etc won't happen at least
for another 1-2 years.

me too. sometimes it's hard to know what to practice or how to practice it
But i am trying to treat it kinda like homeschooling for art.
Like i'll watch a couple of videos on youtube on what i want to learn.
Then i will do an assignment[for example doing 10 loose gesture drawing poses]
and i have to do it by Friday.

I don't like being called fuu.
