You're thinking along the lines of teachers who teach in public or government funded schools.
Teachers who teach in those institutions do get paid by the hour but this school where I worked was more along the lines of after school programmes that encompass extracurricular activities. Like doing sports or learning to play an instrument, learning a foreign language is also an option in my home country.

So those kind of languages schools, which are owned by private persons, not funded by the government, can charge different rates out to the teachers as per the level that they are teaching.

For example, for teaching a group of 7-9 year-olds, I would get paid about $5 per 45 minute class (we're talking about a third world country here, so don't be shocked by the low wages), whereas for teaching an IELTS group, I would get paid about $7-8 per 45 minute class.

I hope this makes sense...

I can't stand when my food has dark speckles all over it, but that's the way most things are. Spaghetti's got it, pizza's got it, fries have it, ranch dressing has it, lasagna has it… I like those things but take forever to eat them because I have to wipe down every bite before I take it.
