"Friend?" Maya asked softly, looking at him. "I've... never had anyone say that before. Not to me."

"Well you are. You're my friend." Steve smiled at her. "Don't ever doubt that." He reached over to put his palm against her cheek and changed his mind, settling on her shoulder instead.

Maya couldn't help but tilt her head a bit towards his hand, anyway.

"That's very kind of you," she murmured. She looked at him. "If there's any way I can repay you..." She definitely intended to do so, once she was in a better condition to find a real job somewhere, if she even could.

"Don't worry about that," Steve said with a little grin. "I've got seventy years of backpay I don't use all that often."

Maya hesitated for another moment, and then nodded.

"I don't know the first thing she would need," she finally said. "I was never briefed on how to care for a child, because I was never meant to keep her. I did not think past making sure I did."

"Well, we can figure it out," Steve said. "Hey, Jarvis? What do you think we need?" He didn't even hesitate in using 'we'.

"Would you like me to compile a list of common suggestions, Captain?" Jarvis asked, without missing a beat. "I can cross reference several popular websites on motherhood."

"Yes, that would be perfect, thanks." Steve grinned. That was easy. He pulled over his tablet so he could go through the list as Jarvis compiled it.

Maya leaned over, watching as the list grew, item by item.

"I didn't know she would need so much," she murmured, massaging her belly with her fingertips.

"This is... a little more than I expected." Steve blinked. "I had no idea babies needed so much. Okay. So we'll just go through little by little, right? We don't have to get everything all at once, we've still got a bit of time."

Maya nodded a bit, still a little stunned at how much it took to care for a baby. She glanced at him, a bit nervous now that he would change his mind.

"Okay. Start off with the basics." Steve shot her an encouraging smile, shifting a bit so she could see the tablet easily too. They had a lot to go through, after all.

Maya hesitantly shifted a little closer, leaning against him so she could see the tablet. She could see the list of entries reshuffling itself as Jarvis prioritized them, and she reached over to touch one of the entries. Pictures of tiny baby clothes appeared. She glanced at Steve to make sure her choice was okay.

Steve nodded, shifting to give her easier access. "We'll probably need a few sets," he murmured after a moment. "Guess I should look into a bit of reading on the subject."

"I can do the reading," Maya murmured, glancing at him. "You're already doing so much for me, and for her." She rested a hand on her belly.

Steve shrugged a bit. "We'll see," he murmured. "Might be useful to know anyway, since she'll be growing up here."

Maya nodded a bit and reached over to flick through the choices for clothes. She paused when a little onesie caught her eye. It was a soft, pearly gray trimmed in light pink, with just a tiny little bow at the neck. It was simple, but that was what she liked about it. She hesitated, though, curling her finger into her palm instead of clicking on the little cart icon.

"Like that one?" Steve guessed when she stayed on that one for more than a few seconds. "We'll start a cart, then, pick out some more things. Might as well while we're at it."

Maya hesitated, and then nodded.

Over the next hour or two, they managed to build a decent list of things to buy to prepare for the baby.

"It's so expensive," she murmured as she saw the total at the bottom of the list.

Steve shrugged. "That's not too bad, actually, for what we're getting," he said. "Done for now? Ready for a snack maybe?"

Maya paused, considering that, and then gave a small nod.

"I could eat," she said, glancing at him.

Steve nodded and got up to make some snacks for the two of them.

Colbie paused outside the living room area, watching them for a moment. Then she shook her head and retreated to the gym again.

By that point, Bucky had made it back to the gym, as well, and was going through a routine workout. He still had too much energy to settle just yet, though he looked over when he saw Colbie come in.

Colbie nodded at him but didn't disturb him, instead moving over to a punching bag and settling in to her own workout quietly.

Bucky just let her do her thing. She still seemed unsettled, so he figured the time at the bag was good for her. When he saw the signs of the bag about to give out, he quietly went over and set a fresh one just off to the side for her.
