"She's asleep," Colbie soothed, getting up and going over to where they had the baby, resting in a secured incubator. "See? She's right here." She made sure Maya could see the baby from where she was.

Maya grimaced and whimpered as she got her feet on the floor. She needed to see her baby. She needed to know for herself that the little one was okay.

"Maya, don't," Colbie said, moving over to her again. "You'll hurt yourself. Stay there, and I will bring her to you." She didn't touch Maya, but it was clear she wasn't going to move, either.

"I need my baby," Maya said. She looked desperately at Colbie. "Please, Colbie."

"Sit," Colbie replied implacably. "I'll bring her over, but only if you stay still." But she did move over to the incubator again, gently pulling it with her and then unlatching it so she could pick up the baby very, very carefully. From what she understood, the baby was healthy, just a little small.

Maya wanted to go over and take the baby from Colbie, but restrained herself. She knew Colbie could very easily take the baby away from her.

Colbie moved over and settled the baby with Maya.

"She's healthy," she murmured, moving back to her seat. "Small, but otherwise healthy."

Maya took the baby, being exceptionally gentle. She cradled the little one, practically holding her breath as she studied the perfect little features. The baby squirmed a little and gave a soft whimper, but didn't cry.

"She's beautiful," Maya breathed, holding the baby close.

Colbie just smiled and settled back in her seat, content for now. Maya was happier, the baby was fine, everything was okay for now.

Maya winced as she settled back in, still holding the baby. Bruce came in at about that moment. He looked around, and then went over to them.

"Welcome back," he said as he started checking a few monitors. "How do you feel?"

Maya watched him, a little wary, as he moved around the room.

"Sore," she finally admitted.

"That's normal," Bruce said. "That should go away in a few days, I would think." He puttered around with things for a few moments before he looked at the two. "I'm surprised she's still asleep."

"Surprised?" Maya repeated, looking at him. Immediately a small flash of panic stabbed through her; was there something wrong with the baby? And then, almost on cue, the baby started squirming and whimpering, which quickly began to grow into a full on wail.

Bruce smiled a bit. "She's probably hungry," he said, moving over towards the door. "I'll give you two some time."

Colbie rose as well but she didn't leave with Bruce. Instead she slipped into the bathroom, giving Maya a bit of space and time, but still nearby if she needed anything.

Maya blinked, momentarily baffled, and then cautiously pulled down the top of the medical gown she was wearing. It took a few moments to figure out what to do, but soon, the baby was quiet and nursing contently. Maya couldn't help but tear up at that. She was just so happy that she finally had her baby, and the baby was safe and healthy.

Colbie gave her several minutes, and then she reemerged from the bathroom with a warm, damp washcloth. In case either Maya or the baby needed any cleaning.

By this time, the baby was blinking and looking around, and Maya was just staring at the baby as if she'd never get tired of it.

"Look at her," Maya murmured when she heard Colbie get close. "Look at how perfect she is."

"And yours," Colbie murmured. "All yours. You get to raise her." She smiled, pleased that Maya was so happy.

"Yes," Maya said softly. "Nobody will ever take her away from me. I won't let anything happen to her."

Colbie hummed quietly.

"Do you need anything? Anything to drink, maybe?"

Maya blinked at her for a moment, and was then surprised when her stomach chose that moment to growl loudly.

"I wouldn't mind something to eat?" she asked, a little tentative.

"Something easy for now," Colbie said. "I'll bring you something. Just stay in bed, alright?"

Maya just nodded, holding the baby close and settling in a bit more. She winced when she pulled at the stitches across her stomach.

It didn't take Colbie long to return with some soup and water and bread, nice and easy to start with. She set the tray down on the bedside table.

"Need me to take her while you eat?"

Maya hesitated, and then nodded. She trusted Colbie, the baby would be safe with her. Gently, she handed Colbie the newborn.

Colbie held the little one while Maya ate, just making sure everything was fine with everyone. That was her new mission, now.

A little bit later, Steve and Bucky got back from completely razing the base. Steve wanted to go straight to Maya, but he was rather covered in soot and blood, so a shower would probably be a good idea first.
