Maya nodded and settled in completely. She was asleep in moments, curled up on the makeshift bed.

"Shelter," Barnes replied. "Shelter first. Then more supplies."

Steve nodded. "Let's get back to the tower, you can start picking out places that look like suitable shelter for those two, and we'll go investigate. Okay?"

Barnes nodded, and started back for the tower. He didn't like the fact that they had to give up pursuit for now. It smacked too much of failure for his comfort.

Steve didn't hover, but he did stick close and help to pick out likely locations where the two might have picked as their shelter. It went faster with the two of them, especially since neither of them really needed to sleep for a day or two at a time.

Barnes had taken to personally checking out each place they found. Most of them were cold trails, and none of the places had any signs of someone leaving in a hurry, but he still checked each one.

It took some time, and one close call, but Colbie kept Maya safe and out of sight. They managed to hop a train to another state, and Colbie found them a decent place to stay for a little while. The nearby bar turned out to be an excellent source of cash, too.

It was one such evening that Maya had gone with Colbie to the bar. She had herself settled at the counter with a glass of Coke, her blouse arranged around her so as to camouflage her belly. The baby had another month's worth of growth on it now, and Maya had gotten bigger as well.

Maya watched, amused, as Colbie skunked another set of college guys out of their cash.

Colbie smirked and pocketed the cash, glancing around for her next victim.

Which was when Steve stepped into the bar with Bucky. They were looking, yes, but for food, not the assets.

Colbie froze when she noticed them, her mind racing.

Maya saw them about the same moment Colbie did, but it took her a moment longer to realize who they were. Her grip on her glass tightened as she recognized them, and she looked around for Colbie.

Bucky didn't see the two at first. He wasn't looking for the assets in a little bar like that, so his gaze slid over Colbie once or twice before we really noticed her. When he did notice her, he paused and his gaze sharpened a bit.

Colbie shoved a college student at Bucky to distract him, waving Maya outside.

But Steve got in the way, grabbing Maya's arm before she could get very far. He had a feeling that would be enough to get Colbie to stop.

Colbie did indeed stop and swear when she saw the two, debating her next course of action.

Maya froze when her arm was grabbed.

"Let me go," she said quietly. She tried to subtly maneuver herself so that she could bend his thumb backwards and escape, but his grip on her was firm and she didn't dare struggle.

"She must be your asset," Bucky said, stepping closer to Colbie.

Colbie's gaze flickered between Maya, Steve, and Bucky before her shoulders slumped.

"Disobedience was my idea, not hers. She was just following me." Colbie forced herself to meet his eyes.

"Just relax, we're not going to hurt you," Steve told her.

"It's alright," Bucky said, holding up his hands a bit. "We wanted to make sure you were okay. We've got a place for you, if you want somewhere actually safe."

Maya glanced at Colbie quickly, silently asking for direction.

Colbie frowned, looking a little confused. "You're... offering?" That wasn't exactly what she had expected. She caught Maya's gaze and shook her head a little, telling her to stand down for now.

"I told you before we'd keep you and your asset safe," Bucky pointed out. "When we let you go."

Maya slowly relaxed at Colbie's direction, but as the spike of adrenaline faded, nausea took its place and she went a bit pale.

"Let me go," she said faintly. "Please."

Colbie nodded slowly. He had said that, and he hadn't actually tried anything after their first encounter. "Alright," she agreed carefully. If it didn't work out, she'd just have to find another way out, somehow.

"You alright?" Steve asked, frowning and loosening his grip. He knew she could be acting, but somehow he didn't think so.

"No," Maya replied thinly. She took a couple of deep breaths, and then jerked out of his hold and ended up bent over the nearest trash can as her stomach emptied itself.

Steve was caught off guard by that. Colbie, on the other hand, was next to her in a moment, keeping her hair out of her face and rubbing her back. She grabbed a glass of water from behind the counter, giving it to Maya once she was done.

"Slowly," she reminded Maya, keeping half of her attention on Steve and Bucky.

"Thanks," Maya murmured as she took the water. She rinsed out her mouth quickly, and then took small sips to try to settle her stomach again. "It isn't being kind to me. That's the third time today."

"I know." Colbie frowned. "I will research, see if there is anything that might help."

Steve glanced at Bucky with a raised eyebrow, as if asking 'what now?'

Bucky wasn't sure what to do, either, but he had an idea.

"There is better medical care with us than Hydra has," he said gently to Colbie. "I promise, we can look after the two of you."

Colbie considered for a few moments before she looked at him.

"If I decide otherwise?" She was a little surprised she was daring this much, but he had been treating her differently.

"I wouldn't, if I were you," Bucky said bluntly. "Your asset is obviously not well. And if you refuse, we would have to at least make sure neither of you are a threat before we can let you go again."

Well. At least he hadn't honey coated it, or tried misdirecting her. So she nodded.

"Fine," she agreed. "We'll go." Because between him and Captain America, she had no doubt that they could take her and Maya.

Bucky nodded and glanced at Maya.

"She good to head out now?" he asked Colbie.
