for us, the next holiday is bonfire night, 5th of November, in 'celebration' of Guy Fawkes' failed gunpowder plot to blow up parliament waaaay back in 1605 (and a main pivotal point of England not returning to the catholic fold). its more an evening of festivities, fireworks and frolics than an actual holiday, and I'm sure it doesn't do much for global warming. but its a fun night and the giant bonfires do well to warm the bones, as does all the mulled wine

I'd have more to be thankful for if we celebrated Thanksgiving by eating pig instead of turkey!
I do not like turkey....but, since I rarely do the holiday cooking, I politely eat a little turkey and lots of other stuff.....then I stare at the plate of leftover turkey that always gets sent home with me for a few days before I throw it out.
This year, Hope might like the leftover turkey....saving me the guilt of throwing away perfectly edible food just because it doesn't taste good to me!

Bonfire night sounds fun! ....but I have a sneaky suspicion that festivities like that would get out of control, here.....bonfires on roofs and mis-aimed fireworks....Americans don't know when to STOP having a "good time" sometimes! Lol!

Have u read the ingredients on a box of dog biscuits?
U could live on them, I'd rather not.
My b day is on Feb 23. That's also dog biscuit appreciation day... Really.
I'd I had to eat pet food I'd fake the dog biscuits over any of the cat foods. Those r really gross smelling.

An older member of our church, 84 showed up on my porch this morning.
He had a bad spell at home. He lives alone and and didn't want to b alone.
I thought he might b dying, but he didn't want a doctor.
He wanted me to read to him from the Bible.
So I prayed for him, & we had church.
Later he felt better & went home.
Anyone who believes is welcomed to pray for him as well.

Hey...that older gentleman was guided to your door for a reason....
I bet you both felt better after his visit!
Helping folks has a way of making one feel better, even on the crappiest days!
Thanks for sharing!....it always feels good to hear about folks helping folks!
I don't have to "believe" to send him well wishes and good energy!
I hope he is feeling much better!

So....Fiddle Sticks.....are we taking violin bows or gadgets that are sticks that ya fiddle with to keep your hands busy?
......hmmmmm?!

I'm having a hard time today.
The weather drags me down but that's just part of it.
Old ghost of abuse haunt me sometimes.
Mom'sters revenge I suppose.
The scars from being a abused child at home and bullied in public never completely heals.
When I'm feeling down or blue the old ghost arise.
Ohhhhh, well. Like the ache of old injuries one just bears it.
When I die all this will b forgotten, but!!! I was part of a big first. In 84 I was a able seamen on board the usns Sirius. We were the first ever civilian crewed ship to serve as a primary supply ship during a war arena action. My name is on that roster.
I was also a volunteer ground crew member for the airlift resupply of our embassy in tsnesia.
It was surrounded by Arab dissidents.
My name is recorded there.
There's lots more but those r the 2 I know r a matter of record.
That's my revenge. That in spite of abusive parents and bullies I mattered.I was part of some big things.
There r more than 20 men who stayed alive and well because of me. Not all at once and those mostly weren't recorded, but that's OK. I mattered to them.
The revenge of Kelsey. That's my real name. And I mattered.

that's such a big thing, to leave your mark on the world. that generations to come will know your name, and you'll probably be immortalized in a history book someday, if you're not in one already (you should google your own name and find out). but the bigger deal is the impact that you've had on not only the lives of the twenty odd men you saved, but on their families too. you may well be responsible for creating a whole generation of people. their children and their children's children own their very existence to you and your squad. if that's not a grand legacy to leave behind, I'll be a monkey's uncle .

Aww, Capt! I'm sorry you are feeling down!
I have had a run of emotional upset, myself, lately....
I find that the lack of a busy, city life gives time to reflect....sometimes too much!
My ghosts are many....some are my own and some are inherited....and they take their toll when my defenses are down!

Capt...you are a hero! I agree with Menlaus in the fact that whole families were affected by your valiant acts!
That is a great thing to be proud of yourself for!
You have mattered to more folks than you will ever imagine!
And ya matter a lot to me!!

Hey...we met a young fellow who is a friend of a friend...says he is from Kentucky and been here for 4 years....
I think he said he lived in Westin...or something like that....
I asked if he knew where London was....he said yes....that it was a small, quaint community....
I told him that my friend had moved there from Detroit....He said WOW! Good for HIM!!
....I thought I'd pass that along! Lol!

I hope you are feeling better real soon!
(Do you find your local minister helpful to talk to when stuff gets rough?)
May the sun shine brightly on your day, my friend! Big & !

Yes, it's Veterans Day.
I'm a vet.
I just to say, every soldier from every branch of every military from every country is a veteran.
Every soldier who was ever killed in any war died for his country.
I think most of my brother vets will agree.
The best way to thank us is to bring all our troops home & stop sending men to die in far lands for profit.
If they're not hitting our turf, let em fight their own damned Wars.

A little Sandy dog has taken up residence on our porch.
Our landlord don't permit pets.
Still she's cute and smart and does tricks so we've been feeding her and gave her a pillow to sleep on.
She don't have a collar so we're thinking someone dropped her off. I'll b trying to find her a home.but till I do we'll just b friends. I

Hey, Capt! I want to apologize for not coming by and wishing you a happy Veteran's Day!
Wednesday was one of those days where, no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't get anything completed!
Hope wants me to "Look, Grandma! See?" ALL THE TIME!
It is difficult to cook, clean and change Sarah's diapers while "looking and seeing" other stuff! Lol!
...But I don't need a special holiday to tell you Thank You for your service to this country, and to remember those who have given their lives to keep us safe and free in our homeland!

So...it is the *gasp* dreaded Friday the 13th!!
I have little to worry about....can't get out of the house to encounter any black cats or ladders...
I'm pretty safe....I think! Lol!
I don't dare watch the scary movies with Hope in the house....cuz she will dream about them and remember her dreams for weeks!
I surely don't want her to have nightmares when she spends the weekend with her parents...and they would have no idea what she was talking about!
She had a dream about catching a little fish...(she has never been fishing, yet, btw!)...about 3 months ago...
She STILL tells me "I dream about I catch a little fish! I LIKE that dream!"

Last night, Hope was pretending to blow bubbles...
She had the handle that had come off an old rubber spatula, and an empty parmesan cheese jar....
She would stick the handle into the jar and stir it around, then she'd pull the handle out and blow....just like it is supposed to be done!
Again, the kicker is that, to the best of my knowledge, nobody has ever blown bubbles with her, yet!!
She pretends a lot of stuff....cooking, parenting her toys, sliding on snow, jumping in muddy puddles....
She has a very creative imagination! ....it is very entertaining to watch!
Her passion, though, is playing with water in the bathroom sink! ....many a toy has "needed a bath," or "wants to swim!"
I don't mind much....she will even brush her own teeth while playing at the sink! ....why complain?? Lol!

Yesterday, Sarah was making her noise...loudly!...and refusing to put bites of food into her own mouth....
I came out of the bathroom just in time to see Hope scoop up a bite and try to make Sarah take the spoon!
Sarah wanted her to put the bite into her mouth...but Hope has short arms and the food fell off the spoon...But it triggered something in Sarah and she started eating all by herself!
It is so awesome to watch Hope play with Sarah!
Hope knows that Sarah's brain is "broken," and recognizes a seizure when Sarah has one....She has alerted me to a seizure a couple times, now...
Then she puts her hand on Sarah and says "You will be fine!"
I truly do feel blessed to have had Hope living with us! She has been good for us all!!

I guess I better get this posted before my phone decides to eat it! Lol!
I made TWO attempts to post in Dazzy's thread....and TWO times, my phone ate the message before I could post it!!
Maybe I'll get to try it again, later...
Hope wants me to "look" and "see" right now! Lol!

I hope you have a Frightless Friday the 13th, my friend!! & !

Well, I think Isis doomed themselves.
NATO won't tolerate this Paris attack.
Soooooooo here we go again.
So, what is someone declared war and the whole world surrendered?
Just everyone sit down. Just wait. Like, OK.u wanted to b in charge. Now what?

Oddly, I heard nothing about the attack on Paris on the only radio station that comes in clearly at our house....I read about it on a community chat site on Saturday morning....prompting me to google up some news...
Though it is shocking, I am not completely surprised....for an attack is/was imminent...SOMEwhere!
Like I told Turtles, the lesson to learn from this tragedy is that we are NOT stronger in numbers....that large crowds are vulnerable to mass loss of life...
I feel much safer, now that I live far from the city and the way city life forces large groups of people to be crammed together.
I hope my kids get the chance to move out of the city, soon!....Hope's parents are involved in a venture that may help them do just that in the next year or two! * crosses fingers*. ** ouch!** (<<-- old finger syndrome! Lol!)

My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the victims of the Paris attack...and to the first responders....and to the folks that have to clean up the debris....
What a daunting task that must be!

Here's hoping that there is an end to this kind of thing happening, soon.....
I can HOPE, right?
I think that Thanksgiving might mean a little more to some folks this year.... !

Yeah, after 9/11 no one wanted to take down their Christmas lights after Christmas.
They all wanted to hang on to that but of cheer as long as possible.
Also in the news, Isis sent a letter to Putin claiming responsibility for blowing up that Russian plane.... Stuuuuuuupidddd , the Russians play a lot tougher than us.

If I had been there, I woulda laughed out loud at hearing that statement!
In my opinion, the heart doctor's office is the last place that one should be subjected to depressing and tragic news!
If the patients want to watch that news, they can do it at home...but they don't need it stuffed in their face before the doc tells them about their heart condition!
It is also my opinion that saturating the media with repeated stories about terrorist activity only plays into the terrorists plan to get as much attention as possible.
I'm really kinda happy that my antenna took a crap and we don't have any tv signal....Democracy Now must be just filled with sad news and pictures! (They aren't subject to censoring....ya get to see bloody, dead bodies on that program!)
I'd rather be left in the dark than to be constantly bombarded by scary and sad news!

I hope Boo's appointment went well...that the doc had good things to tell her!

What ever came of the little, sandy dog? Did he/she find a forever-home, yet?

We are expecting a major snow storm tonite...possibly a foot of snow in the next 48 hours!
I'm not looking forward to it.
The BF's plow motor burned up, so he can't make any extra cash off this storm.
But Hope just can't wait to build a snowman! Lol!

I hope ya have a right nice day, my friend! !
