Well the beach near me by an hour or so is in norther Oregon. So the weather tends to be cooler, with less sticky humidity/fishy stink. Also less tourist because it's not really one to swim in since the water stays pretty chilly except in the blazing summer.

Fun fact... private beaches don't exist in the state of Oregon, they are deemed public property, which means no one can kick you off a beach, regardless of where it falls on the coastline.

Is Oregon on the East coast or the West coast??
I prefer the ocean on the East coast.
The one on the West coast has big clumps of seaweed that wash up on the shore and it looks disgusting and flies swarm around it. And I mean big flies, like horseflies.

I hate the oceans in California because of that.

I'm from Minnesota and people here like to call the lake the "beach" and I'm like...
"That's not a beach. You can see the other side."

Oregon is on the west coast, but I've never seen the seaweed/flies issue you speak of. Though admittedly I've only been to the beach a few times.

They must not have that issue in Oregon. :o
It's disgusting in California...

Makes me not want to visit the beach there EVER.

But I love the east coast beach. My dad is from Virginia so we used to go tot Virginia Beach all the time when I was little and I loved it. The water was warm at night and there was no ickyness.

How do you like Oregon? Is it pretty there?
What is it close to?

I don't know geography.

I just recently moved it, but I love it so far, it's a very pretty place if you like nature. Also Portland is full of things and interesting people.

As to what it's near... it's in the upper left corner of the country, sandwiched between Washington state on top and California below.

I want to go to Oregon.
I want to live on somewhere nice like Maine or Washington.

My dream home would be near the ocean, but still having snow.

Ohhh! I think I know where that is, then...
Where did you live before?

I lived down in the south east of the country. Tennessee to be specific. It was a dump and full of terrible people.

I've never been to the south. :(
Do they have good food in Tennessee? I hear the south has good food.

I want to visit New Orleans. I have plenty of family there, but my mom is sort of the black sheep of her family so we've never visited. I want New Orleans food.

Do they have good food in Oregon?

I am heavily influenced by food.

Portland where I live has like tons of food trucks, and some of the best food you will find, is out of those things.

There is a very heavy Asian influence here, so you also run into lots of Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and other types of Asian cuisine themed places. However I've found everything from southern food to German food carts.

Southern food is some of the most unhealthy stuff on the planet. Xd

When I think of Southern food, I think of everything fried.

I live in the north so everything here is cooked in a cast iron skillet.
I think of lumberjack breakfast with pancakes, sausage, bacon, beans, eggs all cooked in a dirty skillet.

I don't eat meat but up north that's all everyone eats. Meat. Meat. Meat.
Deer meat, bear meat, raccoon meat... Meat meat meat meat. And they all hunt for their meat. It's sickening!

My grandfather was raised in Germany, but I've never eaten German food, you know?
Is it yummy?

I dunno, I never ate from that particular place, I just recall seeing it.

Portland has a very heavy vegan/vegetarian influence. Mostly because a big chunk of the population seems to be hippies if I didn't know better.

Anyhoo it's not hard to find meatless options here. I go to a late night coffee shop that is like that. Granted I'm a fox and we eat meat, but yeah... it's not uncommon for me personally to go days, or even a week without eating meat. There are plenty of other options and sources of protein and what have you out there.

Portland sounds like an amazing place to be!
I love meatless options!

It's making me hungry just thinking about it!

Are there fun things to do in Portland?

Oh I love the place, and yeah there are lots of things to do. You have typical city fair like going out to various shops or restaurants. Heck every Saturday up til Christmas, they have a Saturday market where you can come see various vendors wares. It's like a giant out door flea market each week.

Oh and don't get me started on coffee... holy cow you can't throw a rock in this town without hitting a coffee place.

Also if you're into nature stuff, there are lots of places to hike and see the area. If you're willing to drive about an hour or so out of town, you can even hit up natural hot springs.

I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I am addicted to tea! Specifically black tea. That is my drug of choice.

OH!!! That market sounds so awesome. We have a farmer's market here but it only lasts from spring to the end of October usually. I love the farmer's market! I am a nut for getting vegetables, especially those that I can juice and snack on.

Oregon sounds like a beautiful place to be. I love nature if it weren't for bugs. I don't know why, but I am very scared of bugs. I feel like if I tried to hit them with a broom, they'd snatch the broom from me and hit me with it! But a natural hot springs sounds amazing! I wish we had things like that here...

The neat thing about the saturday market, is that they are very picky about what's allowed. You can only set up a booth if it's arts/craft related, or homemade food related. So you will find people selling leather and wood works, or homemade jams. However you won't see like... say a video game seller, or pokemon card trader.

If it's not handmade, it's not allowed.

They also have a side section for food carts as well. You will also find street performers out there. Yesterday when I want, they had a guy rocking it on a sax on one end of the market, on the other end was a guy with a violin, and on another corner of it, was a guy with a mic and an electric guitar.

That sounds like so much fun!

Markets are very awesome. There's not much of that where I come from, but I live out in the middle of farmsville, USA with cows and corn for miles and hardly that many people. The farmer's market I go to also has homegrown and handmade things, but it doesn't sound as fun as the market in Portland. :(

I bet the music is amazing there too. Do you have many folk musicians in Portland?

Absolutely. In fact one of the performers that was scheduled for the market yesterday was a local folk music guy. Also had a girl that came on later and was playing a didgeridoo.

Oh, that sounds amazing. I love folk music very much. I am excited because I'm moving to California soon and I hear that in northern California there is a lot of folk music.

Do you go to many music festivals?

I just got here a few months ago, I've not really gotten a chance to explore as much as I would like. Though if I can make time I do enjoy music festivals a lot, as long as it's local stuff and not manufactured pop/rock.

I've never been to a music festival. Honestly, I've never been to a concert, let alone a music festival. But I want to go to one someday. I agree, none of that horrible pop stuff. I want to hear folk artists who write their own music and play an instrument and I don't want to see a ton of dancing and flashy lights. I just want to hear good music.

I know! I wish I had more friends that I could do things with, like go to a folk festival. :( But my favorite folk artist is going to be in town in December so I'll try to go see her! I'll go by myself though, since I have no friends who'll go with me.

I wish I was outgoing sometimes.
I'm actually pretty shy offline. I think that's probably why I have no friends. I never get out and do things because I am too shy. :(

My favorite artist in the entire world, who happens to be a folk artist is Joanna Newsom!
