Should probably start volunteering inbetween the holidays.
Blood donating counts are volunteering right?

Oh they definintely have! Christmas is very important to me though, I find my anxiety and depression is very low, I feel relaxed and happy theres just this vibe in the air, no ones that grumpy and everyone is a bit calmer because they all (unless they don't celebrate) have something to look foreward to and its just kinda infectious, it seeps in to everyone.
I'm also hugely family oriented, I love the whole family coming together. :)
I like to help out when I can too! I used to do this thing called operation Christmas child run by the salvation army, you donate a shoe box filled with toys and necessities for children in poor countries. I've been responsible for sending out around 50 i'd say :)
This year if I have money I really want to do a shoe box appeal for the homeless in my area. For a while now I've wanted to but together some bags of supplies and hand them out. :) People can be so mean to the homeless. I do agree there are a lot of none genuine cases, but at the same time there are a lot of those in dire need.
I also make a donation to the food bank. I trawl the store searching for cheap but healthy/wholesome food. I can get a good few bags full for a fiver. ^^ I like to put in cake mixes too, for families, as I imagine it must be hard not to be able to take your child out to activities their peers can do so I thought the families might enjoy making a cake together instead ^^.
Siipu: ah yes, but having a party would require me having friends xD

You definitely would've found him creepy.

Very much family oriented myself. Christmas was a holiday that we celebrated with handmade stuff and things that people truly gave from the heart. Sadly, we are so scattered again that getting together is a bit hard. Threeyears ago, I believe, my parents paid for our flight up there and back, it was our Christmas gift. My sister and her now husband drove up from Southern California to my parent's house in Nevada and Amanda came over with her now ex-boyfriend AKA the baby daddy. It was the last time we were together as a family for the holidays. Not sure about two years ago and then last year my sister got married at the beginning of December, so we got to see a bunch of family, sort of a small reunion. Had a blast.
This year, no idea. Probably won't be able to travel because the husband just got a job and won't have the vacation time saved up to do anything. My older sister moved to Colorado this May, so there is a possibility of future white Christmases which thrills me to no end. Romping in the snow with family! Sounds like a blast.
Easty! That's a fabulous idea! Should start collecting things for Shoebox gifts to the homeless. Extra socks, gift cards for groceries, personal hygiene items. There might be something like that already around here, Arizona does some good things for its inhabitants that are homeless. If we don't end up going anywhere for Christmas or Thanksgiving, thinking volunteering at a homeless shelter would be good for the soul.
Going to see what the Salvation Army has planned, they always make a great difference around the holidays.
Mom donates money to the food bank, they can do so much more with her $25 donation a month than she can shopping for stuff. Sadly, we can't donate right now, but hopefully in the future we will be able to do something regular like she does.

Queenie; I think they're also called blessing bags. I don't know if you work in an office or with a group of people but have a whip round! I did operation Christmas child with my form group I asked them to donated a pound each, we got some higher donations and ended up with 40 quid, I was able to make 26 full boxes with that, including soap, wash cloths, toys, sanitary supplies and school supplies! It can be done! And as you live in America the land of clearance items I am sure you can do a lot better than me!
I'm also hoping in the future to donate to 'a bloody good cause' it's a charity that you donate sanitary items to which they dispense to homeless women - it interested me because it's really not something you think about when you see someone who's homeless you think give them food and water, but with out that item it can be crushing for a woman's dignity.
Another charity I love and if there's any knitters here please get involved - they have a facebook group! Is L.I.LY which stands for love in the language of yarn. The idea is that you send knitted blanket squares to the lady that runs it (she lives in turkey near the refuge camps) and her and her friends sew them together in to blankets for the families In the camps. They also accept a variety of other items. It's amazing to follow their progress!!!
As for Christmas, my close family all live in my area, my more distant family live in London but my uncle and my auntie both travel down to spend xmas with us. We've had a few fraught xmases recently which have brought me down but I am sooo hopeful for this year! I just have a super good vibe!

Fabulous! Definitely looking into those kind of volunteer opportunities, Easty.
Watching Zootopia at work, love having Netflix at work. Oh yeah! Hopefully the next forty or so minutes of the day will flash by and I can get home, make dinner and chill out with the husband. Tomorrow we have the company get together at the Zoo. Got our t-shirts for the picnic and they are cute. Some of my co-workers don't care for them, but they are what the company designed so we gotta wear them. No use in whining about what is already done, time to grin and bear it. Looking forward to riding the carousel, riding the train and seeing the sting ray exhibit.
Hopefully my knee will play nice and won't kill me the whole time we are there.

I could be there mentally tho, partying with you.
