It really is -- mostly nausea but keeping most things down is a major pain right now. :/ If I'm still struggling despite the nausea meds my doctor gave me, I'm making another appointment next week to talk to her about what else there is or what I should do. :/ And I'm praying that it lets up after the first trimester. I need more energy to keep up with my two energizer bunnies! XD

There are some schools here, but you have to get your general education and prerequisites out of the way before you can apply to nursing schools. Their weight times for admittance can be a long time, some in the neighborhood of two years before you get into the nursing program.

Plus, some, if not all nursing programs now require that a person goes through Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant training so they know first hand what it's going to be like after they get their degree. Some people get into nursing not knowing that you will be giving people sponge baths, changing adult diapers, having puke and other bodily fluids on you, and various other not so pleasant things. Guess most people don't think of the less than savory parts of the job, only the money.

I think that is a good idea, for those who do not know what
comes with a nursing job.

Like i know people who just went to a nursing school, without
really knowing what they signed up for.
Like, how can you not know really?

They see only what they want to see of the profession, Siipu. For me the biggest draw is wearing the scrubs! They are so comfy, really do miss wearing them for work. Then of course, sticking people with needles, always fun.

I've done CNA work and Medical Assisting work, fully prepared for what is to come should I go back to school for nursing. Really want the late shift that runs from 11 pm to 7 or 8 am. Go to work when the kids are sleeping, get home in enough time to take them to school, sleep while they are in school, run errands in the late afternoon, have dinner as a family and then off to work.

Yeah, I guess you're right.
I'm kinda looking forward to the needle part.

That sounds kinda perfect, doesn't it?

Believe that's what they call the ideal work schedule. Gives you time with the spouse as well, so you don't lose your relationship with them.

My advice to you when it comes to the needles and looking for a vein, practice as much as you can. People will Thank You later when you can consistently hit that vein without digging around in their arm. As someone who donates Platelets every week, phlebotomy is a skill that all medical professionals should have down to a "T." When you think you've got it down, keep practicing it. There will literally be many a person gushing about how you didn't leave them with a bruise, hurt them, etc all because you stuck them clean and once.

I would kinda like that schedule too. *nods*

Everyone should have their veins like mine, like,
you can't miss them. You can see them too clearly.
I appreciate your advice. I really do.
It's good to have someone who gives advises.

The advice is from first hand experience, been stuck over 120 times, at least that many. And nope, you can't see my veins. You can sure feel them though. A bit deep, but they are most definitely there ready to give up the red liquid of keeping people alive. Just gotta hit it. Hit it without going all the way through, that's a whole separate pain. It burns something fierce when it happens. Yowzer it sucks when it happens.

Only problem with shifts that late are people tend to die in the evening time. Not sure why, just works that way. Plus there are the stabbings, shootings, car accidents. Normal life stuff.

wow, that's a lot of times.
A nurse once really didn't know how to use a needle.
I ended up with like half of my arm in a bruise.
Luckily I have a high tolerance for pain.

Yeah, so I've heard.

That's awful! I hate getting my blood drawn, but I have to do it often because of the meds I take.

I am really nervous of needles, but tattoos and piercing needles are okay for some reason... It's just the needles that take out blood that freak me out.

I don't think I could ever get used to it!
Whenever I go to the hospital I usually end up being woken up at like 7am every two days to have my blood drawn. And it's like that for at least two weeks, which is usually how long I stay. It's awful.

I usually faint if I'm not already laying down.

It's one of the reasons why I hate the hospital.
But my new meds that I am slowly titrating onto should be much better so I won't have to keep getting my blood drawn.

Oh, I don't mind.
It's probably not a medication you've heard of anyway. Haha.

I am currently taking trifluoperazine and paliperidone, but I am slowly titrating off the paliperidone and sticking to just the trifluoperazine.

They are psych meds.

Hospital stays are the worst, they never let you sleep and someone is always poking, prodding or doing something else to disturb you while you are there.

Butterfly needles for drawing blood seem to hurt more than the big needles they use for my platelet donations. Not sure if it's a psychological thing, or what, but they hurt. Stupid butterfly needles.

Didn't have a problem with needles after I started donating. Just can't watch them stick me, once the needle is in I am fine to see it in my arm.

I know, aren't they?
I hate going to the hospital. That was one of the reasons why I didn't want to change my medication at first because every time I have to change medications I usually end up getting so unstable I have to go back to the hospital. It's happened three times already. And I've been to the hospital about six times in total for my mental health and it sucks so much. I never want to go there again.

The only thing I like about the hospital is that you get to sleep all you want and your food is cooked for you. That's about it. Otherwise it is boring as ever, scary sometimes and just annoying.

My trip there was because of the gall bladder, so it was pretty painful until they gave me the pain medication. After that, well it was kind of a drug induced haze. Felt better than the stabbing pain.

You're right though, the night time is pretty boring and it seems like there are lots of codes going on. The scary kind of codes.

The codes are what scares me the most, I think. But most of the time, the codes that get called are usually on my floor, in my unit. It's scary the first few times a code gets called, then after a while you get used to it. But I don't think I can ever "get used to" the things that happen in the psychiatric ward sometimes...

Not that it's traumatizing or anything, it's just scary when you see some people who are very, very sick. It's worse when they get out of control and the staff have to hold them down or something. :/

That sounds like it was awful, Queenie. Gall bladder pain must be terrible. I've never been to the hospital for anything physical except for when I was little. But I can imagine that must be really, really boring.

Well, being high on pain medication for the bulk of the time there helped pass the time. And during the daylight hours they wanted me up and walking around. Which is not all that fun when you have to take with you the stand holding your IV fluids and antibiotics. Oh what a great time. Plus, after the first few laps it's the same scenery over and over again. Can't leave your floor. Bummer.

I was an NPO which is medical for "Nothing by mouth." Absolutely nothing, no water. Bit the big one it did. My gall bladder did try to kill me by letting a stone get out and get stuck so bile and insulin backed up into my Pancreas and Liver. Don't recommend that at all.

In a hospital, Blue is when someone isn't breathing, Grey is a flat line...those I am pretty certain of. There were a couple called on my ward while I was there for my gall bladder. Didn't surprise me too much since most of the people I was around were older, like geriatric old.
