"Oh I know," Mavin said. "We just need to make the UN council see it that way."

"We will." Steve didn't add 'even if I have to bash them in the head with my shield' but it was strongly implied there.

Mavin heard the sentiment all the same and couldn't help but grin.

"I'm sure there are several people right in line behind you," she said.

"At least a couple," Steve agreed with a grin. He noticed Connor yawn and grimaced. "I shouldn't keep you two up. I think he wants a nap."

"I think he does, too," Mavin said, scooping up her son. The boy yawned again and laid his head on her shoulder. "Yeah, he's fading pretty fast. I'll go put him down for a nap." Giving Steve one more smile, she turned and carried Connor to their room so he could nap in peace.

Nearly a week later, Steve was cursing and wishing the quiet streak had lasted longer. But he'd finally been called in, and it sounded like this was a doozy. Something to do with genetic experiments (not mutant kind but something entirely different to do with things with lots of teeth). So he grabbed his bag from where he'd stashed it away and went to go find Bucky.

Bucky was in the kitchen when Steve dashed in.

"What's up?" he asked carefully.

"Got a call," Steve told him. "We could use another set of eyes, if you feel up to it." He was careful not to push on that.

Bucky thought about it for a moment.

"They just need a sniper?" he asked. "Not... anything worse?"

"No," Steve assured him. "Just a pair of eyes. You don't even have to bring your rifle, if you don't want to."

Bucky considered it.

"I'll bring the rifle," he finally said. "No sense in being caught without it if I need it."

Steve nodded, looking briefly relieved. "How long do you need?" he asked.

“Rifle’s in the trunk of the car,” Bucky said, getting to his feet. “Five minutes.”

"Meet you out front, then." Steve left to go finish prepping and make sure the rifle was indeed with them when they left.

Which was about the same time Mavin got a call from one of her superiors.

Bucky nodded and went to change quickly before heading out front.

Mavin blinked when her work phone rang, and she answered it.

"This is Mavin Snow," she said, her voice taking on her 'professional' tone. She listened for a few moments and made a face. "Yes of course. I'll go now." As soon as she hung up, she sighed. Of course they wanted her to go to the tower after the battle was over. Of course. She made a frustrated noise, and then went to see if her sister would be willing to look after Connor for her.

Lucy was keeping an eye on the news coverage but otherwise she was just staying out of the way and keeping an eye on the students. She had noticed Bucky and Steve running around, of course.

“Hey Luce?” Mavin said, going over. “I hate to ask but can you look after Connor? I’ve been told to head to Avengers Tower to evaluate Barnes after the battle.”

Lucy blinked at that. "Yeah," she agreed. "I can do that, no problem. Stay safe, alright? I know you'll be out of the action but people around the Avengers tend to occasionally get caught in the cross fire too."

"Thanks," Mavin said. "I'll do my best to stay out of everything." She checked the time on her phone, glanced at the news to see what was going on, and then sighed. "Alright, I need to hurry and head out. If you need anything of Connor's that isn't here, feel free to raid my place for it."

"Will do." Lucy smiled a bit. "I'll see you in a while, then."

Mavin nodded and went to get ready to go. She reluctantly said goodbye to Connor and then left him in Lucy's care, and then left for Avenger's Tower. With any luck, she'd get there once everything was over and she wouldn't have to worry about getting caught in any crossfire.

By the time the fight was over, Steve was a bit wired, and also listening carefully for Bucky. Buck had found a good spot to shoot from, but he'd been on the comms at least.

Bucky waited until he couldn't spot any more pockets of fighting before he packed up his rifle again.

"Coming down," he said into the comms. "Status on the ground?"

"Looks good from here," Steve told him, taking another look around. "Plenty of clean up to do but I don't see anyone trapped this time."

"I don't see anything from up here either," Bucky replied. He was already making his way down from his perch.
