Haha, i saw Ammeh mention metal + dubstep. Skrillex did a couple of dubstep covers of Korn songs you might be interested in.
A K-pop idol sang one. That was a great time. He had a really soft and sweet image at the time and everyone thought we were trolling when we talked about it.
I like music that I can dissect and analyze. I don't like a lot of mainstream music because it feels so empty to me. I like music with hidden messages and hidden meanings that no one else can hear with the naked ear. I like music that makes you think and feel.
Ava, you sound like the person who doesn't like any specific type of music because of specific associations like how publicized it is and how many people hear it.
It sounds like me when I was a younger teenager. It's a really dumb mindset.
Also, I wouldn't consider Babymetal mainstream. Maybe mainstream for Japan but internationally they're a small blip that is growing.
Saying Babymetal is a metal band is like saying tomatoes are a vegetable.
I get it, they taste like vegetables, look like vegetables, are used like vegetables, but they aren't vegetables.
According to Wikipedia and even Google, Babymetal does not fall under the same category.
I feel like Babymetal is like an introduction to metal for people who aren't into heavy metal or who don't know any of the real heavy metal bands. It's like a nice introduction to Japan to experience "American" metal.
They're basically just a tribute band, really.

Even Wikipedia says it. They are an "idol band".
Which means that they aren't an actual metal band. More like a tribute band.
My point is proven.

Faux metal isn't a thing. They're either metal or they're not.
Ironically, you say it's for people who don't like metal but Rob Halford and many other heavy metal legends support them and love them.
I like metal. I fell out of metal. I used to listen to alot of Judas Priest, Metallica, etc. It's for everyone.
You sound so much like the goth kids from South Park that it's kind of embarrassing.
Clearly if someone idolized me and wanted to get better at MY craft, I'd support them too.
Just because they support and love them doesn't make them any more legit in metal. They aren't the same as the heavy metal bands out there. Why can't you just admit that they are different and really cannot be put in the same class as the other metal bands?
That's like claiming that Tim Burton's art should be in museums with Georgia O'Keeffe simply because they both paint.
It's not at all the same.

I'm quite honestly surprised that anyone would even claim that Babymetal is metal and then have the gall to put them up there with the greats.
I get it, they are cute, they are sort of metal...
But they are in no way, shape or form even on the same pedestal as the old time metal bands.
I wouldn't tell you that Taylor Swift is the greatest of all country stars and deserves to be called country. (When she clearly isn't anymore)
Kind of like saying that Skrillex is a composer and than having the gall to compare him to Mozart.
Wait, I can't do that? Skrillex is a fabulously popular wubstep man, and Mozart is a fabulously popular classical man…
/Amane the grown-ups are talking
Personally, if I have to be honest, I don't like Japanese music anymore.
Not unless it's something original. Like Visual Kei or J-Rock.
Babymetal is a band made for people who don't like metal. That as the demographic they were made for. Just because people who like metal may like Babymetal doesn't make them any less of a tribute band.
Unfortunately, you're not going to be able to convince me that Babymetal should be on the same level as Metallica, AC/DC or even Twisted Sister.
