After seven years I decided to brush up on the terms, and I saw where "double posting" is considered posting multiple times in one topic in the span of five hours, and is considered "spam".

I honestly don't understand the definition. Does that if someone replies to my thread, and I respond despite already responded to someone else, it's considered spam? If the old response is already several hours old (but not quite five) I still have to edit it to add the new response to the separate person? Or wait five hours before responding? Or make one long response every five ours?

Will the hypothetical second person even see the response to them if I add it to an existing reply?

I'm genuinely confused by this and am afraid to start a conversation for the fear of being banned for spam.

I'd be happy to clarify this!! It can be a confusing term, especially since the system auto-merges double posts now.

A double post is when you post. then you post again without any post in between. In most cases the system will automatically merge them into a single post making it a null issue. HOWEVER there is an option in "Go Advanced" that allows you to override this auto-merge function. It's primary use is for thread topic set up. But some people don't like the auto-merge and use the override just because.

And don't worry about being banned just for posting!! We've gotten much more relaxed in our old age. ;3 very rarely do we ban without giving reminders and warnings first.

And never fear reaching out to any of the mods! We want things to run smoothly, so if that means explaining things we're happy to.

I was just asking because I actually had gotten a warning (again, seven years ago) for replying to multiple people in one thread. The mod at the time basically (to my understanding) said that was my only warning and I was going to banned if I did it again; that's why I stopped using the site.

Nah bro. That's all in the past now. We are so much more lenient now. Or I would have been banned long ago.
We have expiring infraction points for small repetitive issues. Non-expiring points for big issues. And instabans for spam bots/pornbots/ad bots/mostly bots.
We issue far more warnings than infractions. And we also take into account the time between infractions. Say you were hit for setting up a charity without going through approval four years ago and did it again this year... likely we're just going to say, whatever that was four years ago just treat it like its a first time offense.
So for the most part we've chilled out to the max.

And to be totes fair with you. I just checked out the back end and you have ZERO user notes, no warnings, no infractions, nothing. You are golden my friend.

Thank you so much for this! It really has put me at ease! I'm enjoying the site and I hope I can become a fully active community member (when college doesn't get in the way).
