Rose stood next to him, occasionally glancing over at him, because she could hardly help herself. This was going to be an interesting afternoon.

Steve retrieved his shield and settled the straps on his arm for now. "Ready?" he asked her, glancing at her.

"So what's the story with you two?" Bucky asked. "Got the lowdown on your magic rifle from Stark, but not much else."

"As I'll ever be," Summer said. She summoned her keyblade, and the shield settled itself neatly on her arm.

"We're traveling and saving places from the heartless. The shadow blob things." Rose shrugged. "That's pretty much it."

Steve nodded and began to show her a few basic things. Including how to hide behind the shield effectively, because that had taken him a long time to master.

"You fight those things?" Bucky asked, raising an eyebrow. "Only one here who's really been able to hit 'em hard is Stevie."

Summer raised an eyebrow when he showed her how to hide behind the shield.

"How do you even fit your entire self behind that?" she asked. "That shouldn't be possible."

Rose grinned a bit. "Our weapons are special," she admitted. "They make it a lot easier."

Steve quirked a grin at that. "Lots of practice," he admitted. "Took a lot of hours of Bucky hitting me with pebbles, aiming for whatever stuck out from the shield."

"Can't help but notice you're not carrying around a rifle," Bucky added, raising an eyebrow at her a bit.

Summer couldn't help but snicker at that.

"That sounds like something I might have paid money to see," she said.

"I'll get it once we're down in the gym," Rose said with a smile, well aware she was not being helpful or informative at all.

Steve snorted quietly and shook his head. "Learn from my mistakes, then," he told her. "Or I'll ask Bucky if he's up to some target practice."

Bucky looked interested, but didn't ask again. He just gestured for her to go first when the elevator opened into the shooting range.

"Maybe another time," Summer replied. She ran her fingers over the edge of her own shield. "You know I still don't know why it did this. Pretty much as soon as we got to this world, this is what my keyblade turned into."

Rose stepped out into the shooting range. She took a quick look around before summoning her keyblades, letting it settle naturally into her hand, even if it was a very different shape from what she was used to.

Steve shrugged. "I dunno what to tell you," he said. "Maybe you'll find out later."

Bucky blinked.

"Well, not sure I expected that one," he said, looking at her rifle. "It's a nice gun though."

"Maybe," Summer said. She made a face. "Though if I find out Mickey knew this would happen I'm going to string him up by his ears."

Rose grinned. "Thanks, I guess. I had no control over it doing this, so." She shrugged.

Steve choked on a laugh at that, shaking his head. "Your turn," he prompted.

"Still, beautiful gun," Bucky said. He leaned in to get a better look at it.

Summer nodded and slid the shield off of her arm. Taking aim, she flung it at the targets Steve had set up earlier.

Rose held it out. "You can try it if you want."

Steve watched as her shield bounced off one Target and came back, wobbling a bit. He caught it and blinked at the tingle in his fingers.

"Not bad for a first try," he told her, still looking at her shield.

Bucky took the rifle and looked it over expertly. He paused when he felt a tingle go up his arms, but shrugged it off and went over to one of the lanes.

"Ear protection on," he said to Rose, putting on a set of earmuffs himself.

"Thanks," Summer said, taking the shield from him. It was as light in her hands as her normal keyblade was.

Rose obeyed without question, settling the ear muffs. She drifted a bit closer to watch, curious.

Steve nodded. "Put a little more force behind it," he instructed.

Bucky handled the rifle easily, taking aim at the paper targets. Taking a calming breath, he fired several evenly-spaced, incredibly precise shots.

"More force?" Summer asked, taking the shield and aiming at the targets again. "Have you seen my noodle-arms?"

Rose watched appreciatively, her eyes a bit wide. Okay, that was pretty damn impressive.

Steve smirked. "More force," he agreed. "We'll work on your arms. But if you need to throw the shield, you need to have good force behind it."

Once he was done, Bucky clicked the safety on and took off the earmuffs.

"This is a beautiful gun," he said, handing the rifle back to her. "Handles like a dream."

Summer rolled her eyes and threw the shield again. It bounced off of one target and brushed past another before clattering to the floor.

"Good to know," Rose agreed, taking it. "Hopefully that means I'll be able to hit the broad side of a barn soon."

Steve nodded. "Better. Your form isn't a problem, and your aim seems to be pretty good. It's just getting the amount of force behind the throw."

"You'll get the hang of it quick," Bucky replied with a bit of a shrug. "It's not too hard."

"Not all of us can bench-press an eighteen-wheeler," Summer pointed out, grinning a bit. She was mostly joking.

"So you say," Rose grumbled, though she did move over to where she could set up to aim at a target.

Steve snorted quietly. "You don't need to," he said. "You just need to be able to use the shield not entirely like a battering ram."

Bucky put the earmuffs back on, and gestured for her to start when she was ready.

Summer rolled her eyes, but continued to practice. A little while later, she finally stopped, her arms shaking a bit from the exertion.

Rose really tried to hit the targets. And most of the time she was successful. It was just the other 25% that she didn't want to talk about.

"Good," Steve said, picking up her shield from where it had finally skittered to a halt at his feet. "That's better."

"Not bad," Bucky said, taking off the earmuffs again and examining the target. "Could be a lot worse."

"My arms already hurt," Summer said, letting her arms just hang by her side. She dismissed her keyblade, and the shield vanished. "I'm calling it for now."

"It could be better, too," Rose pointed out, eyeing her results critically.

"I wasn't going to suggest you do more," Steve said. "Although you're probably hungry by now."
