I think it's because I grew up always doing ballet, so from the age of 6-19, my hair was always slicked back into a tight tight tight bun. Now, anything looser than that feels uncomfortable.
Braids are such a friend to curly hair, though. Learning how to french braid with my own head was one of the best (and most frustrating!) things I've done.
Braids are super pretty, but I never keep my hair long enough for them. I keep it just below my shoulders. Once it gets long enough that I can "censor myself" with it, I trim it.
Oh tight ponytails are nasty anyway, too school girl I think. I'd imagine a low side ponytail would look lovely, and you can wear a headband with it to pin down any sprays.
Have you tried this method?
SPOILERX
This is mainly for heat free curls, but the method gives you a super cute vintage look in the process, so win/win! Once you had the technique down it would keep your hair perfectly tidy even on really windy day, too.
OH MY GOD! I am so doing this when my hair grows out again!

Yeeeees. Ballet buns=strong as steel. I can't do loose buns or ponytails because if feels like everything is falling down. But I do do clippies.
You could put your hair in a French braid, Cherry. Mine is somewhere between collar and shoulder length and I can up it in a French braid. I've run out of hair by the time I get to the base of my head, but I can just tuck the ends away and secure the area with a pretty clip.
With thicker/longer hair you can just gather it at the nape of the neck. Looks prettier with a nicer means of gathering it than just this plain bit of elastic, of course.
That would look so pretty! I don't know if I could do it by myself, though. Maybe I could convince my boyfriend to do it for me? He did cut my hair last time around... His idea, not mine!
I learnt to do it myself just from trying, it doesn't always come out hugely neat, but it's not difficult if you know how to plait hair normally, just mildly fiddly. Just split your hair until three sections at the front/top and away you go. Give it a try, you may surprise yourself. =3
In that photo, though, she's got sections coming in partway down the braid. The only way I've ever done braids didn't do that. It would definitely take some practice, but I'll have to try sometime.
That looks cute! The possibility of practice making it go down to <1 min to do is alluring, too. I have to tie my hair back for work anyway, so this would be a nice alternative. Would probably lend some pretty waves once let down, too!
Don't see why not, Iku! I'd like to see how that would look, actually, pretty badass I'd have thought. Honestly starting the French braid off is the hardest part, as you have the 3 sections to keep hold of and manoeuvre, once you've made those first 3 moves and are adding a new bit from the side each time it's a cinch. It's just getting to know how much to add each time, and that's down to how it looks at the end really, how fat you want the bits of the braid to be.

I was looking for one, but all the ones I found were people doing someone else's hair, not their own.

Found one! This one's pretty good. I use my thumb to seperate the hair I'm adding each time, so the way she does it with her forefinger looks weird and awkward, lol, but that's how I do mine, really.
I can't even braid my own hair >.< and French braiding would be... A miracle, if I can pull it off I can't braid because my hands starts hurting after awhile of holding my hand at the back of my head XD
All I ever do is just brush my hair and twist it upwards, secure a peg and let the hair fall down. It would look like a ponytail but thicker and bigger :D and I hate wearing wool bands or any thing with which I have to tie my hair, because in my opinion they.. Smell bad So.. I'm stuck with using pegs >.<
Hopefully I can get some decent ones of the front soon.
We used Manic Panic in Lie Locks. My friend who did most of the work was more familiar with Manic Panic. The hope is to let this one fade a bit and then redo more of the bottom so it will have more of a gradual effect.
