They are. Which is what surprises me a lot. Turtledove must have on lazy editor because of all the mistakes I've found... Seriously I could take a red pen to the book and there'd be many changes.

And no not at all. That's one thing many of the sites say about the series that it has no indication it's even part of a series. If I hadn't been able to tell I would never have known that's only part of the story.

Besides those faults, is it a good series!?

It's very good. He works with over 15 characters almost in different parts of the world with different backgrounds. It really puts you into the world and makes you think about how it must have been like when the world was at war and if it was as devistating as that. It deals with magic too, and a race that is scrutinized upon as the Jewish had in the second world war. It is quite amazing.

Eh, in my mind this series isn't hard to read, well no books are hard to read if they have adequate description....

If you find normal fantasy hard to read you'll probably need to take your time with this series.. as there are many characters to get used to. He changes frequently.

I'm confused. There are many versions of fantasy? I thought it was just two parts, fantasy & sci-fi. :(

Eh yeah there are only two types.. but I find sci-fi not fantasy at all in my opinion.

Sorry I might have not worded that properly.

I had meant it as if you find it hard to read with only one or two characters as the main character. Turtledove has created a whole list of characters and plays a choice few of them and they all look upon the world and the war differently and can be confusing at times. I wonder how he managed to keep all his thoughts together and not converge all of them into one character by accident. lol.

well, you could always start with children fantasy or young adult. I recommend "The Looking Glass Wars" just finished it not that long ago, was beautiful. Reading "The Neverending Story" right now.

Oh, "Abarat" is super wonderful too.

And shojo manga, I don't see how that would make fantasy harder to read

What is the series in decussion right now?

Start with Darkness Descending by Harry Turtledove, it's the first to the series.

@Akasha: The series doesn't really have a name but it's a mythical world and based on WWII by Harry Turtledove.

haha, I see.
I've been reading fantasy since grade six and haven't stopped.
This series of Harry Turtledove is his first in the fantasy genre. His others are more into historical drama which I suppose this series also fall under with a mythical twist.

@Jawful: Hey! *waves* I wouldn't know though.. I just got here. xP

Ah, ok. I'm also picky about my fantasy. Such as, not a fan of the tolkien series at all. He needed an editor. I don't need to know the massive history of every side character, and about the intense detail of a blade of grass, thank you. Just one of the reasons I liked the movies more.

I think Abarat is my favorite of fantasy books. Just confused me to be seeing clive barker doing a semi childrens book. But it's good, and have the one with the paintings in it, simply because her spend over 5 years on these oil piaintings which inspired him to write.

I vary from what I read. Such as one of my favorite books is "Guns, Germs and Steel" by Jared Diamond. Which ismore of a text book, ad about how it came to be the europeans taking over the world, without a look at race.

The Neverending Story. I loved that movie.... I didn't realise it was a book. Was it originally a book!? I'm confused. Or is it the book based on the movie?

Also JAW, I'm not sure about signature rules, I haven't seen anyone with an image in the signature yet.

I agree with you on the Tolkein series... I didn't even manage to finish his first book ... >.> I hate books that are like that and I do my best to keep away from them.

Wait.. aha, I was going to say I only heard of Abarat but I have read the first book and got through most of the second before getting enthralled in several more books and forgot to finish the second ... It is very good though! Hehe, I hope to return to it soon but I still have a lot of books to go through.

I'll leave it to Akasha.. I don't completely remember it besides it doing with the battle between light and darkness in a world a girl stumbles into a world that many beleived had disappeared forever.

Well it's about a girl named Candy Quackenbush. Pretty much she lives in a shitte midwest town, with the whole crap attitude that a small town attitude has. One praticular bad day at school, she ends up leaving her classes after doing a classes prestenation differently tan what the teacher wanted. Ends up leaving the school, and ends up outside of town out in a fields, and gets transported into the world of Abarat.
The story does have some very fantasy cliche things about it, but it's well written and pulled off well that this does not matter, at least to me. I find the books very wonderful and lovely.

And "The Neverednding Story" was originally a book first and then turned into a movie. The movie is only the first half of the book. Very good book, got about a 1/4th more left of it.

Yeah, I think I shall be taking them both out of the library once more to read soon. *nods*

I always planned to do so but now more than ever I want to now that I've been reminded of it. *nods* Though I'd like to get the hard cover of the first to see the drawings. The Second I had in hardcover and they were beautiful.
