I think it's the downloads and not the expansions that make it run/load slow. I had a lot of downloads on Sims1, but none on Sims2, and I have all the expansions for each, and Sims2 loads/runs fine still!

I like Open for Business the most, although I'm surprised by that! I like earning all the gold badges with home businesses. Pets I wasn't too impressed with and also felt there wasn't much to do. It was too easy to get my pet to the top pet career, and then what? It just does as it wants.

I still like Makin' Magic for Sims1, and going to Magic Town, and getting ingredients. I like Sims2 Seasons and think it's cute to be a plant person who only needs love, water, and sunshine! But I haven't yet played long enough to harvest anything.

It's not so much the downloads that make the game go slow. It's actually the EPs. Cause if you notice with each newer EP you buy, it says right on the system requirements sticker for RAM. That with multiple EPs installed, you may need to upgrade your RAM. So if your RAM is a 256mb (Which is the minimum requirement to run the game), you may need to upgrade to a 512mb.

I have a 256, and a 512 installed in my comp. So that gives me a good 768mb of RAM to run my game, and I do have all of the EPs and Stuff Packs installed. I do find that it runs slightly slow at times. But not enough that it interferes with my game. However, I will likely buy a new 512 stick of RAM soon, and replace the 256 with that. So that will greatly increase my game speed, as well as my computer's performance all together.

xD I don't really like doing things that the game says (I have an Aspiration cheat painting so they're always maxed). I'd much rather play around with them and give them their own sort of lives instead of letting it be dictated by that bar. Seasons may not be for me...But ti sure does look like a lot of fun. xD Weather?? Who wouldn't kill to have weather. What would be really fun is if there were pests or rodents that got into the gardens, and your pets could chase them away. Is that a feature in the game, like it was in Unleashed? xD That'd be smashing.

I agree, Asham, building houses is amazing. xD I always figure that when I'm grown and need a house, I'll design it first on the Sims. I've managed to make one house that I superlike, though it's not very traditional.

There are cheats to control your pets too, fawN and amersemt. I've used them before, and they help a lot, but eh. I have enough problems with accidental twin babies. xD;;;;;;

@melime ~ o; I never knew that. Maybe RAM will be the next present I give to my computer. I always assumed it was my downloads because well...I have 3gb+ - I figured it needed time to render and load all those objects/clothes.

  • I love Sims 2; although I haven't played it in about 6 months or so. xD I can't download correctly and I'm just too damn lazy to read the FAQs; so I just downloaded stuff and it slowed the game down. 8D
Now that I'm talking about it, I'm getting an urge to play it. :B

Hi there. My name is Buckwheat Noodles and I'm obsessed with the Sims 2.

It's my first experience playing Sims, and I adore it. I borrowed it originally from a friend, but now I have my own copy. I own... the basic game, University, and Nightlife. I'm about to buy another expansion, and I'm debating between Pets and Open for Business. Anyone have a recommendation?

Anyway... I have a lot of downloads for that game, mostly characters. Like people from various Final Fantasies. Here's how bad it is; I have an entire custom town devoted to them alone. *Coughs* >.>

@Buckwheat - There is more to do with Open for Business, but the Pets are a nice addition to the game. I personally don't think Pets should have been an expansion by itself because it did not add much to the game. If I had to choose just one, I'd choose Open for Business.

Hey, amersemt. Thank you for the input. :D I have a 25% off coupon for whichever game I decide to buy, and since it'll be the last one I'm going to let myself get... I figure it better be one I'll want! I've got only a couple of weeks before said coupon expires.. *Hoardes it* Hehe.

Anyway, for Open for Business, I've read a little bit about it, but I wanted to ask. Is it hard to start up a business? I've heard you can have businesses either at the house or outside, like at a mall or something.

I've only ever had an at home business because with all my custom content it takes soooo long to load other locations. But, I find it is super easy to do the at home business. There is a ticket machine you can buy and I usually put that on my lot first. It makes it so any non-family on the lot has to pay a certain amount per hour they spend there. Once that's up and running, I build or set up an area to have a store. Once you get a loyal customer base, you tend to get very busy, but it's a great way to make money.

I imagine the downloads do slow down the game as well, especailly with an amount like that. Cause as you said, the game does need time to render and load all the objects/clothes. But the RAM will definately help out.

They're sorta pricey, depending on what size you get. And you do have to becareful that you don't buy one that will be too much for your computer. I don't completely understand it, but every computer has a RAM limit. So let's say your computer can only handle up to a 1gb, and you put in a 2gb, it's not going to work properly.. Or at least that's how I think it goes ^^;; I just stick with 512's, that way I don't need to worry about putting too much in. Also watch that you don't accidently buy one that's made for a laptop (unless of course, that's what you're using), I almost did that. Boy would I have ever been mad when I got home xD

*Gonk* This is not good. I've started an attempt at a legacy (from University), but my guy is only interested in.. other guys. He's only met ONE girl in two "years" on campus that he has one lightning bolt with, but he'd rather flirt with this other guy in his dorm that he has NO lightning bolts with at all. *Bangs head on desk*

I love the sims! I use to be addicted to it but now I don't have enough space on my computer to download it. I played the sims2 on PS2 and I was addicted to it for the entire time I had it. I would play all day  I wanna play the PC version though. My friend was going to lend it to me but no room on my computer :(

I just upgraded my RAM with a 1gb. So I'm running at about 1.50gb of RAM now, and I must say, it REALLY helps. I thought the game was running at a decent speed when I had 768mb of RAM, but now...Wow. It still runs a little slow at times because I have a big family, but it's much much better :3

And yes, I am once again horrible addicted to the game xD

I love the sims 2 xD

However, when I get bored with a sim, I have to admit, I try various ways of killing them and tormenting their remaining relatives xD

Does anyone know what/when the next main sims 2 pack is due out? I've only seen advertisments for the 2008 lifestories games so far >.<

As far as I know the only main Sims 2 pack that's coming out next, is the Deluxe Edition. In that there'll be the main Sims 2 game, as well as Nightlife, and a bonus Dvd talking about the game and giving tips on how to play.

Sims 2 is <333333 >w<

I've discovered one hack that allows same sex couples to have biological babies and I have so much fun trying it on my gay and lesbian Sims xDDDD;;; Too bad though this hack seems compatible only with the base game and the early EP like Uni ;___; Therefore I have to stick with the base game to be able to use this hack without worrying about it would mess my game up.

However, lately I've been really tempted to try Pet EP ;__; I wish the creator of that hack would update it to be compatible with latest EPs.

I so love the sims 2. My favorite part of the game is making/dressing a sim and making a house.

But sadly my parents say it too expensive. So now I am stuck waiting for them to make a house set of the sims two.

I just ordered Open for Business. :D I'm looking forward to giving it a try, since it seems like the next most fun EP out there, haha.

In other news, I'm almost to Generation 3 on my legacy... too bad I dont' know how to upload my stories to the Exchange on the main site, or I'd be having even more fun. xD Ah well, such is life.

I absolutely LOVE the sims 2....its way better then the original!

So far I have, The sims 2..university...the buisness one..and pets! I dont think I will get anymore, cause so far it sounds like the next one isnt gunna be that great...but you never know! I do wanna get the next stuff pack if it is what I think it is...I heard that its gunna be nothing but clothing and hair! I would definatly get that!

and I usually make nothing but family sims..I just have children, then more children, then move those ones out, marry them off, and start the process over and over...I love seeing how my sims look compaired to their grandparents, and see how many blondes I get compaired to brunettes. Those 2 hair colors dominate my game 50/50...I usually never have red heads, and every now and then I get one with black hair..but I prefer blondes!

Does anyone actually shop at H&M? I know my local mall has one but I've never gone shopping in there. Just passed by.. and saw all manner of brightly colored clothing in there. o.O Or maybe that was just the lighting of the place, I'm not sure.

More on topic... I've been having fun with the cheat that lets you impregnate anyone on your lot with anyone else on your lot. It's been spawning some rather pretty babehs. >3 The men I've been impregnating haven't been too happy about it. They whine even more about pregnancy than my female Sims have!

xD When I do that, I tend to just impregnante, then have the Tombstone of L&D speed up the pregnancy. I usually only do it though, when I'm trying to have a pretty baby born to be a lovle for someone I made in CAS.
