I love Twilight loads! I don't have much patience for Bella sometimes but I love Emmett, Alice, Rosalie, Kate and Garrett.
A lot of people say that Twilight is a terrible book and all that stuff but if it was really badly written then it wouldn't be so popular. Isn't that the point of a book? To be enjoyed? And there are a lot of people who enjoy it loads.

lol Rando. It's like you took the thoughts from my mind.

And lots of things that are poorly written will be come quite popular for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of writing. :) Just like lots of very well written books will never be popular on the scale of Twilight.

I have read the whole series and can honestly say that it was a very interesting read, as with all things there were parts of the books that i was very annoyed with and parts that i loved. I dont understand why so many people hate the series, other then the fact that it changes the way that vampires have been portrayed in the past, it trys to put them in a kinder light i guess, however, i dont quite understand why there are so many obsessed with it either.
My biggest tiff with the book would have to be Bella's character, and how she interacts with Edward and Jacob. The author could have written the books better but it didn't detract from the overall story line.
My favorite parts of the book would have to be the interaction between the Cullen familly. the Volturi or however you spell it, are pretty cool (in a horid way ^_^) to. i liked being able to see
(or read as it were) the differnet clans also.
My favorite characters would have to be Alice, Jasper, and Emmett. Oh and also Laurent, i really really want to draw him, his character is so.. so refined i guess, he has very interesting facial features.
My least favorite as i said already would be Bella, and also Jacob, who would have to be in both categories cause he is cool cause he is a wolf but some of his characteristics gets on my nerves.. but he is cool none the less.

Twilight was well written, but as I read further into the series, I felt the writing began to slip, or become sloppy, and the storyline falling. I even found several typos in New Moon and the most recent book Breaking Dawn. I really loved Twilight, and somehow, the last book ruined the whole series for me. I'm strictly into a vampire x love = death romance but when babies and other impending things of surrealism overshadow my need for xeno-fantasy, I lose interest quickly. It's not that I didn't enjoy reading the whole Twilight saga through, it's just that I quickly caught some disappointment when things were falling into predictability. And as for movies, I really really hated the movie. It made the book look awful....

I personally don't get why there are so many people who hate the book or think it was poorly written. I've never been a fan of vampire stories and when my friend told me about Twilight I rolled my eyes and ignored her but after seeing the preview for the movie I got a little interested. When I did finally sit down and read it I fell in love with the characters and the story.
I think it's awesome that the whole thing came about because Meyer had a dream about the meadow scene. I didn't think it was poorly written at all actually, and I've read quite a few books and even dabbled in writing a bit myself but obviously I'm no expert. I loved all the twists and the last book was the perfect ending to it all for me. I love how she changed up the traditional vampires and explained things like the myth that vampires burn in the sun because they used to only come out at night so the humans came up with that theory and things like that. I love how she did and explained the pregnancy as well. But I guess that's just me.
In a way I can see why a lot of people didn't like the way she did things but I really don't understand why some people think it was poorly written, no offense to anyone.

I personally really dislike the twilight series. I guess before it became such a big fan book it was okay, but still not great. I've never even bothered to read it, I'm not really in lovey-dovey books. Almost all of my friends read it and they are a little bit obsessed. It's pretty annoying having everyone always comparing real life people to Edward Cullen and how compared to him they are nothing. Honestly, he's a fictional vampire with some issues and no one in real life would remotely come close to him. I don't like Stephanie Meyer's whole idea on vampires, it just doesn't seem right to me. Or her idea on were-wolves either for that matter. I honestly don't think that vampires should glitter in the sun like rainbows, it's kind of filling teenagers with crazy ideas in their head. Sometimes I don't like it when I tell people I'm a Harry Potter fan and they say I'm behind. They tell me how Twilight is the new Harry Potter but I just say that nothing could ever replace Harry Potter. Twilight fans are just a little bit over their heads with this vampire mumbo jumbo.

Contains light spoilers:

I'm rereading Harry Potter, and while they both have almost the same level of fandom (HP has more considering it reaches out to a wider group) the level of writing is huge.

JK Rowling seems like a more developed writer, she'll do something like kill off a character or have something bad happen to the main characters because it needs to happen. It will progress the story properly and develop the characters in the way it needs to.

I feel with Twilight, that Stephenie just chugged along with the good guy always winning, the girl getting the guy she wants, the girl getting what she wants, when she wants. It gives an unrealistic view on things, and even though it is a fictional book about vampires, many people take lessons in books and apply them to real life. Which is impossible to do with Twilight. She gives her readers exactly what they want, when they want.

Again, if applied to Harry Potter, no one would be dead, everyone would be happy and Voldemort would have changed his evil ways in the climax of book 7 and repented, possibly killing him from the pain of undoing the 8 horcruxes.

Again, I'm happy Stephenie Meyer could write someone that could keep people happy, keep them enthralled and excite millions of pubescent girls everywhere, but I hope she doesn't write any similiar books, or any more for that matter. xD

~SPOILER WARNING~
If that's the case then why does she have Edward leaving Bella for her own good in the second book and Bella herself almost dies and goes through a lot of pain in each book and lets not forget the role Jacob played through most of it. As far as teaching lessons, not everyone takes a lesson from a book seriously, they enjoy the story but if you want to go down that road, how about the lesson of protecting your family and the ones you love? Or perseverance?

Don't get me wrong, I get what you are saying and for the most part you are right about the Harry Potter thing. But you can't simply write off Twilight because Meyer wanted a happy ending. I don't think you can really judge if a book is 'good' of not base on how many characters they are comfortable killing off.

I think it's mostly a matter of genre. It's a teen romance novel basically. Harry Potter is a fantasy. If you've ever read any romance novel you'd realize they are suppose to 'get the girl' and 'live happily ever after' with lots of drama and close calls in the middle. I don't think you can call her a poor writer because of it though.

Edward comes back doesn't he? Or at least Bella saves him. They end up being together at the end of the day.

Furthermore, I don't think you actually got the point of my post. It was one example. Sure I could go into more examples, but my post would be extremely long. This was one example of why I believed she isn't a good writer. And I'm not the only one to share this opinion. I daresay the majority feel the books are good. I did say they were sensationalist books, and that is why I believe the majority like them.

And Harry Potter and Twilight are definitely both fantasy. Twilight may be a teen romance fantasy but Harry Potter has quite a bit of teen romance as well. Moreso than even Twilight possibly, considering Harry Potter deals with the difficulties in more than just one relationship. Sure, Harry and Ginny end up at the end together, and Ron and Hermione together so they both get "the girl" as to say however after all the hardships they've been through, I feel like they deserve it.

As an English major, I have read many classics, many books revered as being some of the best English literature there is. My opinion may be possibly jaded due to being an English major, but I have read many other children's books that I found to be wonderfully written. I'm not saying Twilight is necessarily a bad book, I'm saying Stephenie Meyer is a bad writer, which I think you confused with me saying Twilight was a bad book. Take even Emily Bronte for example, she has written a classic but did you know her book before Wuthering Heights was a big flop?

I am in no way writing off Twilight anyways. I've read the entire series, and I enjoyed it. As I said before it's a happy go lucky book, even though it may have quite some dark stuff in it. And again, just to finish off this post because I've been reading back and commenting, I'm in no way judging the books based on how many characters they kill off. If I did I wouldn't be fans of many books, since no one is killed off in them. It was an example, I'm sorry my example was misconstrued but it was just suppose to be one example of why I felt it wasn't a well-written book.

I not trying to attack you because I thought you were dissing the book. Sorry if I came off that way. I just really don't understand why so many people think Meyer is a bad writer. I understand it was an example but everyone has a different writing style.

I don't hate Twilight itself. After New Moon the series was pretty much Meyer thinking "Oh! I can get money no matter how crappy the books are! LOLZ" and writing whatever she wanted though. Seriously... Breaking Dawn gave me NIGHTMARES. It was that disturbing and badly written.

What I do hate are the fans. Have you ever seen a 12 year old and a 65 year old both oogling Twilight tee-shirts like they were made of sexy? It is creepy. And I was actually attacked at the library by a girl because I mentioned that it wasn't my favorite series to someone else who liked it. She literally tried to push me down the stairs and called me a bi**h and said I should burn for "being a blasphemer"...

What the hell?! Then there was the little 8 year old who thought Meyer invented vampires and thought all the people dressed at regular vampires weren't doing it right...

For discussing Twilight the movie, you can head on over to this thread, where you can discuss anything you want relating to the movie, along with future movies for the series. This thread is more specifically aimed at discussing the books individually, and the series as a whole.

I've never been a fan of the whole Twilight shebang. My friend had suggested it to me around two or three years ago and I just dismissed it. A few months ago, I picked up a copy and got through the first three or four chapters before putting it down and never picking it up again. And as I've been told "Of course the first few chapters are a bit slow. It's just getting started. You need to keep reading!", I just didn't have any motivation to pick up a book I knew was bad.

Meyer takes the time to tell you what everyone is wearing, how everyone feels about what they're wearing, and what they plan on wearing the next day. She goes on to describe the most mundane and bland things to mask that there really is no plot in her books. And what little plot there is, is filled with holes that are conveniently filled with the most random solutions.

The characters are also flat and lack character growth. Bella is a very poor role model on the targeted audience of the Twilight series (which oddly extends past the 16 year old age mark) by her own person. She's a damsel in distress and prefers Edward to come save her. And when she finally throws away something as precious as her mortality for a guy she's known -how long?-, she's suddenly more Mary Sue than she was before.

I think I went too far off on a tangent here. I just get a little peeved when I see the really hardcore fans of Twilight freak over the book. I usually don't have a problem with bad "literature", but byjobes. It's getting out of hand with the amount of attention it gets and how defensive the fans get.

I do not see how so many people are obsessed with something like "Twilight"... I just... don't.
It's really not something to obsess over... at all.

Discuss:
Why you dislike/like Twilight.
Would you let your children read the books?
What's your impression on hearing stories about people getting hurt and nearly killed for saying that they dislike the books?

I'll probably answer these questions as the thread goes on.
