My argument - to get back to the topic - was always about how the vampires in the book didn't hold any semblance to vampires at all save for the bloodsucking. One of the many reasons was the sparkling, obviously, but there were others. I don't remember any mention of fangs, they didn't have to be invited inside of the house, they were immune to just about anything, and they could only be killed by their own kind or other supernatural creatures. Humans didn't stand a chance. In a lot of vampire lore, humans could at least stake a vampire or make some kind of stand against them. Sure, it was hard but it was still there. Now, the vampires here are just invincible. Flawless. It made for a really dull story.
The good part about them being invincible is that the only people who wanted to kill them /were/ other supernatural creatures. And no, there were no fangs - that was one reason why Steph didn't allow the movie to be made for so long, since she didn't want people giving them fans. I think she genuinely was trying to show a different side of vampires, but it was just.... too different. I wish she'd do a side story about the Volturi or something. They're about as close to "real" vampires as she'd get, and it might earn her a little respect back from people disgusted with her vampires. Very little.

There was this kid in my Writer's Craft class who read a script someone in grade eleven had written for their drama class. That script was basically a LOT of dialogue exchange between Dracula and Edward Cullen xD It was hilarious. It basically included something like this:

Dracula: Who are you?
Edward: Who am I? Who are you?
Dracula: I am Dracula!
Edward: Oh, that Bram Stoker character. I'm Edward Cullen! *flips hair*
Dracula: ....E....Edward Cullen? I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU!
Edward: ..you have?
Dracula: IT'S YOUR FAULT PEOPLE DO NOT FEAR ME ANYMORE!
Edward: Why would they fear you?
Dracula: Because that's how it's supposed to be!

It lead to Dracula saying Edward wasn't a vampire and so therefore, Dracula would have to kill him so he could go back to his life the way it used to be. To save himself, Edward asked Dracula to teach him. So they head to Edward's place, and Dracula keeps getting shocked more and more at how screwed up of a 'vampire' Edward and his family are. He finally starts thinking they redeemed themselves when he sees Bella - he thinks they keep the humans close by - when Edward offers him a "bunny rabbit".

In the end, Dracula convinces Bella that Edward said all this mean stuff to pass on to her, so Bella changes her relationship status on facebook to "In A Relationship With Jacob Black." Edward notices this, flips out and asks Dracula what happened. Edward's completely freaking and Dracula starts clapping and he's like, "You're finally tapping into your inner vampire."

It was pretty neat, but full of loads of jokes at Edward's expense that I can't completely recall.

Oh no, I knew not everyone in the fan said the sparkle stuff ;P It was just the discussion for the past little bit, and I *think* I had just come back from a thread at another site discussing Twilight becoming and anime and people saying how it would ruin anime forever. I was like, ummm, no. If Twilight became an anime, it would probably suck, but it's had the "manga" (I don't know if it was a graphic novel or if the Japanese books just had the graphic novel type cover) before already, and there's been other crappy anime that should be classified as something that would "ruin" anime but they were all whining about it and it just irked me. So then I came here, and people were like... "GAH! SPARKLE!"

...so yeah, haha.

The main reason the vampires didn't do much "vampire-like" things that would classify them as a vampire is because Stephenie couldn't let anything ruin her love story she dreamt up. But the problem with that is, she did that because she likely thought regular blood sucking vampires would be disgusting for a human to love. And it's like, umm that's kind of the point.

It never bothered me because I got caught up in the shallow love story (sadly) since I'm able to go past that stuff, but it was always strange. The only really thing that felt classic vampire-like (despite the fact that it wasn't all that different) was the Volturi and how creepy they felt.

You are so very right. * starts laughing at Edwards reaction to Dracula* The whole skit between my dear old friend Dracula and the wimpy wanna be non-blood sucking vampire Edward. Was extremely priceless!! And here's a cookie * hands Portrait a cookie* for putting a smile on my face ^-^

I do agree I love the skit I loved the whole "I'm Edward Cullen." Hair flip. " LMAO! But I absolutly loooove the whole Twilight book series I hated the movie I didn't even see the second one and probally won't for a while probally. I have read the first one almost six times now and the rest ive read several times but not as much as the first one because everytime a new one came out I had to start with the first one and work my way through the series lol. I think that I like the forth one the most though even though I loved the kiss Jacob gave Bella in the third one I was like "About time!!!!" I was hoping that he would get a chance to really kiss her at least once but I really loved the hunnymoon scene when she wake up covered in feathers and there a chunk of the head board missing I was like "Man that must have been some good sex!" lol and it was priceless the look on his face cause it was so opposite from hers he looked like the world just ended and it was his fault lol. New Moon always makes me cry no matter how many times that ive read it! I read just about any good fanfiction about it that I can find cause I wish that series would go on forever!!

I find New Moon really hard to get through. All of the book is her being emo and somewhat crazy.

I come here to ask what the fans find so appealing about the Twilight series. Personally, I read the whole series just for fun. Honestly, it was an okay read, but it wasn't that great. I just wanna know what is so amazing, because there were lots of things that turned me off about it as I read: deus ex machina, mary sue and john doe characters, the degradation of the vampire/lycan lore, and a 4th grade reading level to boot.

Really, though. I'm just curious. o__o; Enlighten me!

I think for a lot of people (NOT EVERYONE), they sort of apply the story to themselves and hope that in some shape or form, it actually happens.
That, and it's such a general story that it can appeal to a wider audience.

I liked the Twilight series (the books, I refuse to watch the movies because the guy playing Edward is dumb and ugly, and the chick playing Bella sucks acting wise), but with The Host... Ugh. It was so long and drawn out and boring... I could barely get through it! I don't know what kept me going. I bought it before I read it, and now I honestly regret it. It was not worth the money and effort to get it.

By the way, with Twilight, I liked it before it was cool, before the second book even came out. I just thought it was an interesting point of view on vampires. Yeah, the sparkling's kinda rediculous, but the rest I thought was rather interesting, especially with the Native American werewolves popping up later on!

I enjoyed Twilight as well. :) However, you're right about the actors that play in the Twilight movies. When Edward removed his shirt in New Moon it was SO GROSS. I couldn't believe that as a challenging male lead, Rob P. didn't build himself up at least a LITTLE. Especially because of how Tyler L. looked on screen (who, by the way, can actually act! I can't say as much for Kristin Stewart).

I completely disagree with you about The Host though. Not only was it better in the writing section, but the story was very good as well. Although souls=yeerks imo.... I'm more o a sci-fi fan than a fantasy fan, though. ....That could be it.

I recently read Twilight just to see what all the fuss was about. And having finished it (the first book anyway) I still don't get what all the fuss is about. I mean, the story is not particularly bad, though it kind of doesn't make sense. Like how Bella would have such strong feelings for a vampire who wanted to initially eat her. Nor how Edward the vampire eventually falls in love with her. It's almost like I've fallen in love with my meal or something like that. It was easy to read, that I'll admit, which is a credit to Stephenie Meyer for her writing style.

In my humble opinion it is also not that great. I still think other books have better plots and I suppose make sense within the given context. I wouldn't go as far as saying I hate it because I don't and that would be harsh but it is very surprising to me that such a story has become such a phenomena.

I think you need to take this far less seriously... (team Seth by the way ;p) But actually my personal opinion is that jacob and Edward should have a massive battle and neither of them should survive :)

Hm.. I dont think i have any that i think is the worst.. if i has to choose i would choose Rosalie Cullen.
And i think Bella and Jacob should have had more of a love story then Bella and Edward.

Well, none of the characters in Twilight really stand out except Alice and Jasper. They have interesting personalities and backstories, at least compared to everyone else. If I do have to pick one thing about Jacob though, I will say he at least has a strong believable motivation. I just wish Bella had the brains to see which man would be more loyal to her.

Ah.. finally a thread about the hype..

Personally I think that the hype is what has killed the books for most people. Simply because the books don't seem to be as good as the hype makes them out to be so people go in with high expectations and are subsequently disappointed.

As for the movies.. well lets just not go there.
