A lot of people with red hair burn easy, it's like... in their system.
My Aunt is a red head, and she gets it bad.

Maybe you could try an inside tanner? Not like a tanning booth, but a tanning lotion.

My hair is somewhat red....in other words on the border between red and brown. (not purple..lol)

but yeah I have the freckles to that usually come with the red hair...lol

and I can try the tanning lotion..though I have to find the right kind since its hard to make it look like a real tan.
