I'm a big time exchanger. I love to get items and to put a couple away that I believe will be worth something someday so I can sell it so I can buy more later.
I want to know how other people feel about people like this. WOr people who simply buy as many special items as they can to simply have them.
I personally try to buy items for myself first then a couple to save for later, but I try to give everyone a fair chance so they can have items for themselves. I know there are people out there who want items to simply have them and to not horde.
So what do you think?
Do you think Horders are evil little buggars?
or
Do you think ,if you can Horde then go for it!

Well I think hoarders are okay if they intend to be at least a little charitable down the line. X3
I would totally buy and hoard crowns for later because I would want to give some away to those who joined long after the items discontinue. Of course I'd use some to sell for gold and art, but it's a good feeling to help and give to others who are less fortunate.

As noted hoarding ensures that there will be more of limited items to go around later on once they become rare. Further, it's a simple way to guarantee you'll have cash, without having to be too terribly skilled at exchanging. Frankly, just about every case of "hoarding is bad!" that I've ever come across has been sour grapes from people who wish they'd done the same.

I think it depends on the situation - if an item is ultimately really rare, I think that person should spread the wealth. I know on gaia, all my little extras always go to something else - quests to get presents for others, etc. I just feel that if the person would rather wear it, be happy wearing it, rather than let it just sit and dust away simply because it makes ME happy.
Spread the love!
If it's an item that is pretty accessible, then it's ok. But I don't think anyone would want to hoard that XD (usually) unless it's sentimental value. Which is always better than an item just being an item.

well hoarding depends on the situation. if in the case of menewsha right now, hoarding crowns that you paid for or bought off of people wouldn't be too bad since there seems to be a bunch of people donating and people can get to them. however, i think... that people hoarding valentines items right now when so many people are questing for one of their own, is really bad. And i frown upon it, especially since we're all trying to be a "better" community... :/ many people questing + you hoarding while they quest = bad. ><!!! <= that reminds me of why gaia became such a horrid place to me in the first place.

I don't really have a position on hoarding either way, but - if nothing else - hoarding on Menewsha does indicate that the people who do it have faith the items will be worth a lot down the line. I think because the price of the donation items dropped so quickly and thoroughly it helped push the value of the Valentine items up (one is very easy to get and one isn't), so ... the hoarders probably have the right idea.

I'm more of a person to spend enough time to get an amount of items that I'll use -- which is usually one. I'm not big on the hording, though it's tempting, because I seem to be questing. I like to buy an inflation item early, only one, and then continue with the quest. I don't like taking the risk of buying more than one if it won't rise in price.

i honestly dont see much real harm in hoarding unless you take it to an extreme and try to monopolize the economy (on here lol) by buying out ever single one of these items so you can sell them later on at an absurd price. everyone has their own little ways of making and saving money/gold to help them get the items they want. so you save one or two crowns for a later date to help you get something you may want then...so what? every other person is doing that as well.

V-day hoards are kinda meh in my opinion. Mostly because they're -already- very sought-after and valuable. Fighting people who want to wear it right now, is not a fun idea for me to think about. I'd rather not have two hairpins when I will only use one.
But crown-hoards, are probably alright because you can still donate for them and they are quite abundant.

By the way though, when I saw the thread, I thought of World of Warcraft first because Horde = a faction there. Like the meaning where horde is a big group of people.
Whereas hoard/hoarding is actually just a big group of items. Should probably change that haha. XD

It depends on the scale of hoarding.
Hoarding a few items to sell later on isn't really that bad in my opinion. But if you go and try to monopolize the item then yes it's bad. Such as with the v-day items. If someone where to go and buy a majority of the items just to hold on to them and very slowly sell them then that's bad to me.
I don't know but that kind of bothers me a bit. It's one thing to try and make a bit of a profit but it's another thing to go and activly try and monopolize something.

On other avatar sites, I hoard. >___>;; But... here on Menewsha, I don't feel a need to. Seeing as... I own all the limited items. XD;;; So I sell my extras.
... not like I've ever really had any. *lol*
There are positives and negatives to hoarding. Obvious positive is it gives people who missed out a chance to get the item. Negative... well, hoarding just for the sake of hoarding... ~____~

- I am and am not a hoarder. I'm one of those people that like to think "If I've got the money, and can tell that the item'll be worth it in the future, why not?" , but the otherside of me is saying, "Let other people have a chance if you've already got one."
I'm torn between the two, so for certain items, there'll only be the chance that I'll only get one, whereas others I'll try to snag as many as I can.
There's also the fact that I'm more of a lurker than a poster, so I don't have much gold to begin with right now, but eventually hope to have enough to be able to buy stuff whenever I feel like it. xDD;

I'm fine with hoarders as long as they leave enough supply out there that's exchangeable for other users, so still a fair amount of people can attain the item at that point of time.

Well, I agree with hoarders are o.k. as long as there is still a decent amount of the item left for everyone. If you donate to make your own little hoard, then it's definitely find, because like, it doesn't affect anyone. Unless you sell the stuff. :o On Gaia, I only hoard weird things, but I don't have like, 1000 of anything, or anything. Maybe only 100, or so. @ [email protected] 8)

I also immediately thought of Genghis Khan and the Mongol army. Now that was a horde.
Now hoards, on the other hand...I like the idea of hoarding, as I'm a complete and total packrat, and it's rather in my nature to do so. I have a very difficult time letting go of items, as the piles around my house attest.
However, in cases like on this site when the items are so few and so rare, I don't want to hoard them. I have one V-item, and that's all I'll ever have. It doesn't seem fair to the rest of the community to hold on to multiple items when they're just so desireable right now, and are so difficult to find. If they were plentiful, I'd have no problem hoarding them.
Items like the crowns or St. Patty's day items which can be bought, I have no issue with hoarding them, either. I can't actually afford them, but it's the principle of the thing.

I thought I posted in this thread earlier, but I guess I didn't.
I can say honestly that at the moment I'm hoarding St Patricks day items. I'm going to hold on to these puppies until a later date when I can put them to good use: An art contest. I've always wanted to hold one! ^^ I'll hold on to them for quite some time if I have to, really make it worth the while of the people who will win them.
I don't really have a problem with hoarding because if there are fewer items to begin with, there are fewer to end with, yeah? The site is growing and the new people are going to want items they weren't around for. The items need to come from somewhere.

I tend to hoard myself on Gaia, so it's somewhat expectable for it to happen. Not only that, since this is a small site with a lot of growth potential, I'm going to be more likely to hoard any items I can get, as I'm sure many others will. Look what happened with the Halo on Gaia. :D

there's hoarding, and there's being miserly..
i'll admit to squirrelly stuff away, i tend to collect event items on Gaia, i have 30 Mimzies  not collected anymore today though! i have stashes of event items from the last couple of years, and the storage of my 2 main accounts are starting to look like a post office because of the envelopes stuffed in there.
but i wouldn't have stuff just so someone else couldn't have it, i like to randomly donate to my friends on Gaia, never to strangers any more though..i hangout in my friends' threads and often spot an item that they want in their sig, if it's a donation item that i have a number of i LOVE being able to make their day and give it to them.
but i've given donation items to strangers before and they haven't even said thank you :?
so i don't mind hoarding, as long as you don't become a complete packrat and completely fill your life up with junk 8)
