I didn't know if this should go here or in the GD, but since it's about video games I'm putting it here. ^^;; I don't know if there's been any threads like this before, but I didn't see any. (Although I do admit I didn't go very far back...)

So anyway, what got you started on video games? What got you hooked?

My earliest memory is playing pong on the Atari when I was a wee little girl. I have no idea how old I was then but I must have been pretty dang young. But what really got me into video games was playing Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt back on the old NES when I was young. My sister and I got hours of fun out of that system, even though we only had a handful of games for it. We had Mario 1 (w/ Duck Hunt), 2 & 3, Dr. Mario, Ninja Turtles, Donkey Kong JR, Duck Tales, and I think that was it, really. o__o;

We never actually had a Super Nintendo but we did have a Sega Genesis, and we played games like Mortal Kombat and the Sonic games. I didn't get into RPGs until I was about 13 and was introduced to Final Fantasy by my sister's boyfriend at that time and I fell in love with the series, and decided that I needed a PSX, which I ended up getting for my birthday. That's what really got me hooked, although I had been casually playing video games practically my whole life until that point.

Anyway, uh... If anyone's managed to read all that, (or even if you haven't and just skipped to this point...) feel free to share your stories. ^^

If this belongs more in the GD, I'm really sorry. I thought this would be more appropriate. @[email protected];

My first memories of video games comes with Mario played on the one of the original nintendo systems... I know all the tricks to that game, even now...

  • My sister got me hooked on playing games, actually. Then it was reinforced by my cool brother.
    My sister'sthe one that got thte NES into the house, and since she's the one that pretty much bought the whole thing, it was in our room. So she had me playing Tetris a lot. Told me, "If you can get to level 10, then I'll let you play Mario."
    As my skills progressed, I was pretty much playing every game for it we had(excluding Maniac Mansion, 'cause that game STILL scares the shit out of me).
    Then my cool brother got mom and dad to let us get a Sega Genesis, and then he bought the GameGear from our cousin. So there was even more games to play, but I really loved Paperboy and Sonic 2. >w<
    When the PSones debuted, my brother decided he had to have one because he heard about a rumor of a Spawn game coming out for it. Since the system was his, I had to bargain to play it. But when the PS2's showed up, he gave me the PSone, and that's when my collection of games started to grow. >w<
    Then about a year or so after PS2's had been out, my uncle had had one since day one that he never really played, so he gave it to me for my birthday, and thus my collection started to grow for both PSgames.
    Though, back tracking a little bit, when Pokemon Gold and Silver were just coming out, I was able to talk my mother into buying the teal GameBoy Color for me since I had gone long enough without a gameboy. xD
    Then the summer before I was a freshman in high school, I had babysat for this family at church that paid me $10/hour, and was able to buy myself a glacier colored GameBoy Advance. :3
    By the time Junior Year of high school rolled around, two of my friends decided we absolutely needed to try job hunting, and that's when I got my job with GameStop. And until the past few months I've been an avid gamer. I need a job before I can continue my hobby.

It was Space War in the arcades. As for the consoles it was the Atari 2600.

Comadore 64 - Barney Bear Goes to Space.
I don't remember much of it - I was only four. xD We also played Berstien Bears coloring book.

As we got a wee bit older (6 or so), my dad introduced us to puzzle/strategy pointclick games, like Return to Zork and Leisure Suit Larry. We had no idea what was going on in LSL. >_> xD;

Dad's fault. ^^ He started me on the computer around the third grade, and I got started on this game called Dr... something. It was a basic sort of thing, in which you type something to the program and it gives you a generic reply. I could play that thing for... a long while, oddly. Thought it was the coolest thing ever. After that it was probably some Barbie horseback-riding game, then Adventures in Third Grade Math/Science/English, then Unreal Tournament. That was a game.

First Gameboy game was Pokemon, first PS game was FFIX. ^^

Oh, and the original reason that I wanted a computer: Oregon Trail. They let us play it at school and I loved it so much so I wanted to get my own computer at home so I could play it some more. ;x
When my mom finally caved I spent a lot of time on it playing Solitaire. <.<;

I started playing video game's when I was about 4 year's old, my mom and dad would go to see their friends and to get me and my sister out of their hair they would sit us down in front of the Atari, and we would play Frogger or Pitfall for hours. then when I was 8 I would go to the store and play Mario until we finally got a NES I have pretty much been a big time gamer from that point on until I was 15 then I was too busy hanging out with my friend's to play video game's much,but when I turned 16 I got very Ill and was unable to leave my house too far away because I had panic attacks (and still do :cry: )so my mom would rent or buy me SNES game's to play so I would have something to do, and one fate full night she brought home Breath of fire 2 and ever since then I have been ADDICTED to RPG's and the Breath of fire series is the main reason I even bought the playstation lol

I stared playing around 6 or 7. The local video store would rent out nintendos and stuff and my mom got one so she could play wheel of fortune, I would play it with her on occasion but I sucked at it. It wasn't until she rented Mario and the Original Final fantasy that I really got into it. Sadly it wasn't until I was 14 that my mom would let me throw a hundred or so dollars down for a playstation. I bought crash bandicoot and final fantasy 8 and after that I was totaly hooked on videogames!

I had a megadrive next, a game gear, a supernes, a game boy and a playstation ^^
After that I started the university so... the home console was X-box but I didn't played a lot.
My friend, which I lived with has a dreamcast and a NDS ^^
Such an history...
Passing from Atari to NDS... what a change ^^ And what good memory.

At my old apartment, there were three of us and we all brought our game systems, past and present. We had an old 8-Bit Nintendo, an N64, a Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, X-Box and a PS2 all in our little TV Stand. ^^; Everyone was always impressed by our collection of game systems in the apartment.

My RPG addiction started with Pokemon. Earlier than that my actual video game addiction started with Super Mario 3 and Battletoads. :P I miss my NES, but I'm glad they are remaking games for those of us whose NESes have gone to a better place.

I have faint memories of my dad having an atari and my mom got me a Commadore 64 when I was young and I would play hangman and stuff on it. Also the schools I went to had a lot of computer games for the old apple systems.

I was always into Computer games, I loved Carmen Sandiago and Oregon Trail :)

As for consoles my friend had an NES and she had a sleepover and we played Mario and I was hooked. They all wanted to do other things and I just kept eyeing the system.

Not much hope for me after that ;p

My sisters have had their NES since forever, and I grew up watching them play The Legend of Zelda. Out of the SMB games, I got hooked onto SMB2 because you get to play as Peach! This was when I was about 4-5. My cousins would bring down games for us to play. I remember being a huge fan of Ninja Gaiden hahaha <3

Everyone else had a SNES whereas I had a Genesis. My first games on that were Sonic 2 and Ren & Stimpy. My oldest sister eventually got me into Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter by then. Played a lot of games from the Sonic and MK franchise : DD On the SNES, I played a lot of Kirby's Avalanche and Mario Kart!

I played hours upon hours on my Game Boy! I had the craziest obsession for Pokemon Puzzle Challenge hahaha

N64 omg. Starfox 64. SM 64. Mario Kart 64. SUPER SMASH BROTHERS. POKEMON STADIUM. POKEMON SNAP! <3333 I could go on for hours with that thing. My N64's still in working condition too! <333

I inherited my sister's modded PS1 after she bought her PS2. I played lots of DDR on there. Finally got into Final Fantasy (started with FF8 x: I do have a copy of FF7! Although it's my friend's copy... that never asked for it back hahaha) and even more RPG's.

I currently have a PS2 and a Nintendo DS. I have a copy of Xenosaga that I have yet to start on. I'm nearly close to finishing Star Ocean 3, but I don't have the time to. I have yet to actually play FFXII (I'm only about 6 hours in the game... yet again, need time to play D: ). On my DS, I'm finishing up Phoenix Wright: Justice for All. I LOVE THE FIRST ONE AAAH. I'm also always down for some Tetris and Mario Kart ;DDDDD

It also doesn't help that my boyfriend is the biggest Zelda geek in the world <3333

I started with an atari too. I think it was a 2600. We still have it and it still works. I would play Pole Position 2 all day long. I miss it so those were the days of great racing games.

Then we got an NES and I played around on that. I remember not being able to get very far in the 2nd Zelda game. The first RPG I played was the first Final Fantasy and I was hooked on that series from a very young age. Then things like Double Dragon, Dragon Warrior (that game is so hard omg), Dinozoids or whatever it was called, the 2 zelda games, Marble Madness (HARD), Gauntlet 1 and 2, and anything I can't remember that we own.

From that it was the SNES, Genesis, Turbo Graphix 16 (which did not sell well but Dungeon Explorer is better than 99% of everything out today), and the regular old Game Boy.

When Final Fantasy 7 commercials started on TV I remember whining that was what I wanted for Christmas and thus we started with the next generation of consoles.

Now I don't play as much as I did. I still have PS1 games to beat haha but I play every now and then. I love my DS and the Wii is amazing. I really want Cooking Mama for that.

I got hooked young. Not like when video games were first invented, but not far off either. I had an Atari 2600 when I was about 4. Not many games and the ones I had I didn't understand: Pac Man, Missile Command, Combat!, etc.

Then my cousins got a Nintendo, which I tried when I was like 5. It took me a bit before I was shown that, on this console, you could jump. I played that alot. Had a GameBoy for roadtrips, cried so hard when I didn't win an SNES in a raffle that I almost hyperventilated and passed out xD (and then got one for Christmas anyhow).

I think my mature gaming started with the N64, which my brother bought. We played Goldeneye and Gauntlet Legends until our eyes bled. Then my best friend showed my his PSX and I ended up getting one of those with FFVII and the rest is history. Good times. Simpler times. Even though it's nice having my systems hooked up and ready to go, I do miss having to haul my crap down into my dad's office to spend 5 minutes hooking it up so that I could spend hours glued 6" from the little 13" screen with a stack of chicken salad sandwhiches at hand (I was in a phase where I'd make a banquet of food and munch on it all throughout Saturday while I gamed). It's nice when all you have to worry about is when/how you're going to beat a boss, no?

Eh...the first system I had was a Nintendo 64, which I got, I believe, the first Christmas they were out...
And I had a Gameboy Color.
I pretty much got hooked from there..
And I didn't play any older systems until later...
Both the Sega Genesis and the Nintendo (or super Nintendo, I dunno >_<) I've played, but not until like...2 years ago? >_<

The Mario games got me into gaming. I know I played those back when I was about 4 years old (have a photo of me playing Mario 2, heh). My dad owned the NES and SNES, same with my uncle. I remember going to my uncle's and playing this ninja game with him, think it was for NES..

I remember our atari but it didnt really impress me much as a child. I was much more interested in going outside and playing on the swings and stuff at the playground right near my house. But i do remember the additiveness of nintendo and super mario when it first came out. Then my mom showed us how to play duck hunt and i spent all my time switching back and forth between them trying as hard as i could to beat them. I must have been like 6 or 7 maybe because it was sooo hard XD

That reminds me of a picture I have of myself that someone took on New Years Eve a couple years ago where I am sitting on the floor playing Super Mario Brothers 2 on my old 8-bit Nintendo while there is an X-Box sitting on the floor next to me being ignored. I find it rather amusing. ;3

My fondest memory of starting into the world of gaming is around games like Dig Dug, Ms. Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, Super Kart, and various games like that. First system I ever played was the Atari 2600. First I owned myself though was the NES. Sadly my NES died when I was five. T__T At least I still have my SNES though and a WHOOOLE bunch of the rare games that you can get for it. I love that system more than I do my PS2 sadly enough.

I was about eight when I started playing video games. I first played Ocarina of Time on the N64.

To tell you the truth, I really only like the Zelda games. I just can't get into other games, especially if there's voice acting in them. I have a hard time paying attention to spoken words.

I was 3... My friend's cousin had Donkey Kong (The original... You know... with the ladders...). I played it... and played it... And he said "Hey... I want to play now" And I replied "I'm still playing..." I was hooked... I didn't want to give it up. Next thing I know I was playing pong and kamikaze duck on atari. I used to play Pacman in the arcade every time we went to do laundry... I could barely even reach the controls ^.^;
