I have heard this line a lot, from friends, movies, and definitely TV shows where there is an elimination. Is there a particular place where this line came from? What I mean is, which book/movie/show stated this first?

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum ^^; . I have no problem if you need to move it.

It's from the nursery rhyme, "Ten Little Indians":

Ten little Indians went out to dine;
One choked his little self and then there were Nine.
Nine little Indians sat up very late;
One overslept himself and then there were Eight.
Eight little Indians traveling in Devon;
One said he'd stay there and then there were Seven.
Seven little Indians chopping up sticks;
One chopped himself in halves and then there were Six.
Six little Indians playing with a hive;
A bumble bee stung one and then there were Five.
Five little Indians going in for law;
One got into Chancery and then there were Four.
Four little Indians going out to sea;
A red herring swallowed one and then there were Three.
Three little Indians walking in the Zoo;
A big bear hugged one and then there were Two.
Two little Indians sitting in the sun;
One got frizzled up and then there was One.
One little Indian left all alone;
He went out and hanged himself
And then there were none.

Also coule be inspired by the Agatha Christie novel And Then There Were None, which is itself inspired by the nursery rhyme.

Huh. I find myself saying this quite a lot, and I never actually knew where it came from either! Good to know the origins of things like that!!

Is it off that 10 little monkeys thing?

You know, that bedtime thing they'd say..

10 little monkeys jumping on the bed, 1 fell off and bumped his head...
Mama called the doctor and doctor said, no more jumping on the bed!

9 little monkeys jumping on the bed, 1 fell off...

etc...

1 little monkey jumping on the bed, he fell off and bumped his head,
Mama called the doctor said, now you silly monkeys are all stuck in bed.

Actually, no, that one had monkeys in it. =/ Hrms, I dunno.

whoa, i think that nursery rhyme is scary!! the one with the indians...
there is something similar in german which is scary too... it's called "zehn kleine negerlein", which means something like "ten little (... uhm ...) africans" it's something very old, so don't get angry for being politically incorrect ^^,

Did anyone know that rockabye baby is about Native Americans??

It is about the device they used to carry their babies on their backs...when they would rest they would put the baby in a tree. When the white settlers got here they thought that it was a cruel thing to do to a baby, (even though it was as safe as possible) and wrote that song about it.

Well, i think it's cruel that they shot the Natives... I should write a song about it, right? :lol:
