I enetered this thread thinking that no one would have read my favorite book in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD, which is the Claidi Series, but I was thrilled to see it in the first post. I love the style of wrirint, and the was that Claidi is just such a teenager. Great, great book, and I have two copies of the first and third books (I bought the omnibus  ).
The first few Princess Diaries books are fun t flip through every once in a while, although in my opinion, Meg Cabot's writing has gone down the drain. Amerlia Attwater-Rhodes' vampire books I can read more than once. I don't like her new series that I can't spell though. Anything by Tamora Pierce. Tammy = GOD.
|
haha! XD I have a couple of my friends in love it that series. The first book, Wolf Tower, has finger stains on it, because it has been read so much. The author may not be my favorite, but the series is in my top 3.
omnibus!! Latin word! :D I am a Latin student.
I never really like Meg Cabot as a writer. I dunno.
And I definately agree on Tamora Pierce. Her writing and description is so vivid, when I am reading her books, it is almost as if I am watching a movie since i visualize the seens that much. XD Sometimes I think I am dreaming.

^^ That I do not agree with. All the books, except 3, were not worth rereading. The rest I could reread, but I am more passionate and biased towards certain looks.
There is one book, however, that I could burn and have though about burning, and that would be Echo. OMG I hated that book with a passion. I never finished it. I was halfway through it by the time I decided to through it at a wall. I do not know why I hated it so much. The writing? Storyline? I don't know. I just can't stand it.

Well, this is a kids' book, but Ronia, the Robber's Daughter by Astrid Lindgren (the Pippy Longstocking author) is wonderful. My favorite children's book. I read it all the time.
Anything by Patricia A. McKillip or Tamora Pierce I reread.

For me, I would have to say that it is the Tales of the King's Blades series by Dave Duncan, one of the most incredible authors I have ever read. It's very sad that more people aren't aware of this man's talent, because most of his series are out of print. I tracked them down on Ebay, because he's simply excellent.
But he's not the only one. The Harry Potter books are frequent re-reads for me as well. Also, there is a series by Liam Hearn called Tales of the Otori that I keep picking up periodically. Excellent yarn, that. ^_^ I also used to have an infatuation with everything by David Eddings, but since his most recent series, I lost interest. It simply wasn't as good as his earlier ones, which I still pick up once in a blue moon.

I have books that I will always, or so it seems, cherish.
One set is the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles. For some reason they captured my imagination, and I was entranced. I fell passionately in love with both Lestat, Armand, and the whole bloodlust idea. I really love the narrative of the books and the way that they really talk about human mortality through the idea of immortality.
I also adored the 'His dark Materials' by Phillip Pullman. Most of his other work was utter crap, but those books totatlly managed to entrance me and I love them. Ms. Coulter in the books really resembles my mother, and that really let the books hit home with me. Lyra and Will were such strong characters that I oftentimes found myself wishing that they were real.
Harry Potter is another one of those love 'em forevers.
Draco Malfoy is the sex. I <3 him.

Silver kiss (by Annette-Curtis Klause)is an amazing book, if you like vampire ones I reccomend it! It's really sad.......and I love that it lacks most vampire cliches....
Going along with the vampire theme, Twilight and then the second book, New Moon by Stephanie Meyer, are some of the best vampire books I've read, really you need to read them. Words can't describe how great these books are but I can tell you once you pick up the book you won't want to put it down, the characters just pull you into thier lives.....
my othere favs include Garth Nix's Abhorsen series (3 books), Tanith Lee's Claidi Journal's, really really good series, Crown Duel by Smith Sherwood. I know it's romance but man is this series good, The circle trilogy, by Nora Roberts, is amazing!! If you like vamp stories and are of a mature age (XD) you'll love the vampire in here. He's all sarcasm and I love it!!! Harry Potter<3 and I have so much more but they were library books so I can't remember all of the titles T__T
I'm also a manga fan but I won't go into that.......

Heh, I can't believe I forgot to mention these. All that talk about vampires made me remember it. If you're a fan of manga and vampires, then you'll probably like these, Madness. It's the Vampire Hunter D novels, by Hideyuki Kikuchi. They're AWESOME. There's only one thing that kind of irks me, and that's the fact that the author sometimes gets on a soapbox about how awesome D is, and he oftentimes repeats himself, but once you get past that part, the story is awesome, the characters are well-developed, the scenery is vivid, and there's always a twist. ^_^ I <3 them.

I like to read the Harry Potter books over and over, even though there are movies out now. :D The books are still alot better than the moives, I think.
Also, I like to read Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicle books over and over. I can't help it. I love her writing. Any time I see any of her books that I know I don't have I buy them on the spot.
But the book I really love, is Dragon Rider, by Cornellia Funke. (Not sure of spelling, I don't have her book nearby).
Hollie: I have to agree with you there :D Lestat really interests me, Armond not so much. But yeah, Lestsat is one of the most interesting Vampires I've ever read about.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower -- I love this book. Absolutely adore it. I've read it so many times now, I can't even count. It's a book that I've personally found a lot of comfort in, because I can relate to a lot of things Chobosky wrote about.
Fight Club -- The movie is amazing... but the book is so much better. Palahniuk is such a master of and I discover something new about the book every time I read it.
The Prophet -- Kahlil Gibran is a genius... and this book has offered me some of the best adivice I've ever received in my life.
Blinking with Fists -- It's a book of poetry by one of my favorite musicians, Billy Corgan. He's so talented... and this book fills me with joy. =D

There are quite a few books I still enjoy reading again and again:
The Amber Chronicles (ten books) - Roger Zelazny (read: three times)
The Outlander series - Diana Gabaldon (each book at least twice)
Robin Hobb's series (twice)
Harry Potter series - J.K. Rowling (A minimum of two times per book, maximum of five times)
The Phantom of the opera - Gaston Leroux (twice so far)
Tales of the flat earth (series) - Tanith Lee (three times)
The 13.5 lives of captain bluebear Walter Moers (four times)
The Lord of the Rings trillogie - J.R.R Tolkien (three times)
That's all I can remember re-reading :D

^^ Phillip Pullman sounds likes Tanith Lee to me. Yeah, she is a good writer, but only one series of hers actually caught and held my attention, Which was the Claidi Journals system. ^^ I will defiantly look for his books.

Madness gets the gold medal of this thread so far! All books listed, excluding Harry potter, I love and have read them. I just recently read silver kiss and loved it (my friend let me borrow it.)
Also, here is a truth, since I have racked up 50points in extra credit so far this year, Reading is VERY helpful in your Language Arts classes. It helps not only in writing, but also in content. It is also helping me in my AP World History class (Tamora Pierce's books).
A lot of the backgrounds of these books are based on something else in history. If you read about the Mongol's, you can automatically see why I relate to Tamora's Pierce's earlier Quartets with it. It also relates to medieval times.
In books, there is sometimes mythological background you can use, or quotes the authors used with characters in the books that identify with the paper you are writing.
So all you book haters out there (who hopefully won't come to this forum): You don't have to turn into a book worm, seeing that I am not, but you should read just to improve your grades.
Okay, that sounded stupid :P

Well, I HATE seeing the movie before I read the book. D: They just changed the movies too much from the book. I mean, look at Ella Enchanted and its movie. They were almost COMPLETELY different.
Books are usually always better than the movie.
