That sounds like my sister's children. She didn't believe in any form of disapline. Heather has been smacked once and Morgan never but I use the threat of it. I hate unruly children. She phoned me is tears and told me her 12 year old daughter had punched her in the face. What would I do? I said punch her back, but it is your own fault for not having bounderies when they were growing up.

I think that kids these days just don't have enough discipline. I know when I was growing up, my father wouldn't hesitate to smack us if we were in the wrong. Kids today just don't get that. The threat of CYS coming down on you for child abuse is unreal. Therefore, kids are uncontrollable.

I think smacking is bad, and that things shouldn't come to physical violence. Okay, so a smack isn't really violence, but I think you should just remove toys/send them to bed, etc.

I'm of the'i was smacked and it never did me any harm' generation. It's interesting to see Capsule's view as being the next generation down so to speak.
I have no issues with smacking, 1 hard slap on the arse is often more than enough to put a kid off doing whatever they did ever again!
But so many people these days beat the hell out of their children that all these harsh rules get brought in.
So the majority suffer, because the minority can't control their tempers, these people who often enough should never have had kids in the first place :x

I think there is a big difference between being smacked and abused. I was smacked growing up, I always knew why I was smacked.
Smacking is a last resort in here (which explains why my youngest is seven and never been smacked). I think kids get it far too easy these days. I don't believe in the naughty step, to me that is laughable. Tos sit and talk to a child about what they did and the consequenses is one of the best ways I found. Or how would you like it that was said to you? But if amy child ever lifted thier hand to me it would be the last first and last time. I have a great relationship with my kids, but they know where the line is. At all times I am mum not their best friend although they can talk to me about anything.

Talking to children is something that few parents do though. they either refuse to listen to them, or scream at them. When getting down on the floor at their level and talking about the problems would help no end. Of course if they talked to them civilly from birth a lot of the behavioural issues would never arise in the first place :?

I was an old first time mother, I was 27 before I had Heather. I always wanted the relationship with my children that I had with my mum. So far I have succeeded, Heather talks to me about anything and everything. Including sex, which neither of us get embaressed about. She talks a lot to her step dad about things that she wouldn't discuss with her dad.
Anyway if you shout at kids they tune out, if you talk to them they tend to listen more.

Tia, my old neighbour used to shout at her kids constantly, they completely ignored her. But because they were used to doing that they ignored all other adults too, and they had no respect for my things, we wouldn't let them in our house after a while because they were such monsters.

Capsule, you look amazing as well.
I do agree that there is a total difference between spanking and abuse. I really didn't word what I meant very well. I don't believe in smacking/spanking per say but I do think that a smack on the butt doesn't hurt and I do agree with Jelly. I think parents today yell at their kids entirely too much and that kids have it way to easy. Taking toys/games, etc away from them works to a point but sometimes you need to do a little more and getting on their level does work. It just never happens.

I have an friend (and the amount of times I open my mouth and tell her I think she is wrong I am surprised we are still friends). Anyway she has two kids 19 and 21. The boy (19) had ADHA and all she cared about was the DLA she could get for him. She used to spend the £200 a month on her and her daughter he would get a PS game. She bought him nothing, unless he really needed it. Anyway the boy went out to work at 16 and paid digs, and he had to hand over his DLA every month, His DLA stopped when he was 18 and she couldn't wait to get him out. Eventually she used the excuse he used the house like a hotel to kick him out. Emma (the wonderful daughter) is pregnant (she fell pregnant on her fist date with her ex boyfriend who now wants a DNA test) and her son was out the house for a week when she turned his room into a nursery for the grandchild that is due next month. The boy now lives with his mates mum because his MATES MUM doesn't want him to go into a hostel with all the down and outs.
Oh another thing, the son bought a computer and they had a router so he got a USB thing to use the internet in his room (before he was kicked out) and she charged him half the cost the AOL cos he used it upstairs. I could make a fortune both of my kids have the internet upstairs we could third it. No pocket money for them then lol
And the latest is the boy's girlfriend is pregnant now, and she wants nothing to do with this baby, as she says with the rumours she heard it might not be the son's so they will be on Jeremy Kyle in a few months time blah blah blah. I said isn't Emma's ex denying he is the father? That shut her up. But even if this baby is the son's she is doing nothing for him.
Her excuse for her behaviour towards her son is she wanted another girl when he was born, she had split with his dad when she had him, and her ex named the boy. I would have thought naff off he is my kid I will name him. She has never been interested. The daughter is pregnant with a boy and she started crying when they told her in the scan and she midwife called her a selfish girl a lot of woman would love to change places with her cos they can't have children.
I'm going to get into trouble for such a long post ain't I?

no, long posts are great, plus you'd have got the full 20 gold for that.
Some parents just astound me, they treat their kids like some sub-species :?
and SO many parents spend the benefits that they get for their children on themselves!
I'd go for it with charging your 2 for the internet Tia, i can just picture Heather's face if you told her you were going to do that
Has she moaned about all her make up that you threw away yet?
