Well, in the 30 years that I have lived here I've learned not to throw oranges at javelina (they just come back for more), ants will eat a tarantula if you stuff it down their hole, don't pick up a rattlesnake, and don't go barefoot in the backyard, you might step on someone who has taken up residence there.

Oh you have Arizona grass! The only thing that is green around here are the weeds.

We had a tarantula try to sneak up on me last night by going through the dryer tube. My daughter rescued it but I was going to turn the dryer on and cook it or at least blow it out and send it for a ride

When I was a kid I thought nothing of picking up a tarantula or tying strings to june bugs or things like that. Now, there's no way I'm picking up that hairy spider and if it landed on me I'd probably pass out.

My daughter is going to grow up to be some sort of wild life specialist, I just know it. Steve Irwin and Jeff Corwin are her idols. My son....screams like a girl at the mere sight of a bee.

It's funny how boys can be such girls about insects

i used to get angry with people at work if a bee or a wasp got into where we ate our lunch and they started freaking and waving their arms about trying to get rid of it
I'd sit there calmly while a wasp is taking a walk over my hand, and someone else throwing a fit makes it sting me and they're going to die!
Some people never seem to learn with stuff like that though

nice of you to visit in here Kale :)
Oh poor Kat, do you think she would ask me if English was my second language?

The partial hysterectomy would be up to the gynacoligist doing the opperation. But I can ask to be seen my a particular Gyn doc. (which is good as there is a doctor in the hospital in the gyn dept I do not ever want to see I hold him responsible for my mum's death, because he is a prat and couldn't make a decision for three days). So I could ask for my old obstratriction's list (he is a gyn too) and I am sure he would do partial for me. I am one of his special patients. I (even though I feel pregnant naturally) am one of his select fertility patients. If it wasn't for his injections and tablets during my pregnancy then Heather and Morgan would have ended up in the incinerater like my first two pregnancies. This man to me is god!

I don't mind spiders now, I had aversion therapy as my fear was irrational I used to be pysically sick if I seen a spider. I was scared I would pass the fear onto Heather (which I did). First you look at pictures of spiders and progress your way up to holding a tranatula. They tickle when you hold them (on account of the hairs). I wouldn't keep one as a pet (I am still not that keen on spiders) I can lift them up and put them out the window now, I can sleep if there is a spider in the room, which is a good thing as living on the banks of the river with trees all about we get a lot of spiders! Morgan started to copy Heather and scream and I would go up and take it away (not Simon he was scared ot spiders on account of being in a swimming pool when his dad worked away from home and discovering a sugar spider in with him). I was talking of my aversion therapy so we tried it with spiders here, starting with wee money spiders lol He can lift a spider and put it out now. Morgan I got her intersted in the ants in the garden, and she would pick them up, so then we moved on to other creepy crawlies in the garden until we got to spiders. Like Simon I showed her money spiders, before I moved up to the ones that live and breed on the BBQ cover and they are big. She is not scared of spiders now, and worse still she has now decided she likes snails and has a snail collection in the garden. Horrid child

OH! People were talking about spiders.

You know, some of them are quite pretty. There's even a bright blue spider. It's a kind of tarantula, Flink thinks.

But it was very lovely.

Flink had a friend in college who LOVED animals and spiders, and asked Flink to help her look for something about a spider she had since Flink was considered "Queen of the Search Bar" in her class.

That and fast typing. <.<

"-teacher is teaching-"
"-Flink types her notes-"
"-whole class stares, jaw dropped-"

LOL!!

My Mum made me scared of spiders, she says when i was small i used to post dead ones through the letter box  so i obviously wasn't bothered by them then. the thing is my Nan isn't bothered by them, so i find it strange that my Mum is..
I can't pick them up, i catch them with a glass and a piece of card and they go out of the window, but my Mum still flattens them with slippers. That annoys me because it's not necessary :x
I like money spiders though! I've never understood how people can freak out about something as small as that.
I'm nowhere near as bad about spiders as i used to be, about 12 years ago there was a real big one on the wall going up my stairs, it was a normal house spider but it was massive! Good 3 inches across i'd say. I stood there looking at that beastie and my stomach was turning over and i got all clammy, i couldn't bring myself to go past it to get downstairs..
No idea where it went, there was a shelf of soft toys beneath where it has been on the wall, and i didn't dare move any of them for months incase it was behind any of them
But now i'll make myself catch them and get rid of them, simply because i have to! There's no-one else here to do it for me.
I am somewhat ashamed that my Mum hasn't become a bit more adult about them over the years though.
There was a house spider by her pantry door last winter, she grabbed her slipper and was going to flatten it but i wouldn't let her. i went to fetch a glass to capture it and she says,' not that one! I'll never be able to drink from it again!'
So i used a beer glass out of her cupboard and took spidey for a walk down the garden..

When i came back she says' You're no daughter of mine..' Why's that mother, because i've learnt not to throw a fit about something that a hundred times smaller than me??

All the females in my family were scared of spiders, it came from my mum (I didn't pick up on her fear of thunder and lightening though my sister did and her daughter did, and she couldn't understand that when we had the storms last week neither Heather of Morgan were scared of the thunder and lightening). But spiders were my only downfall being a tomboy. I would do anything my brother did, peeing him off cos I could climb trees and even to the top of a lamp post faster than him. I just couldn't go near spiders!

I knew Heather picked up on my fear, I still try to get her near a spider, and she is like no. When you lift it if it walks through your hand it tickles a bit. But then I put it out and tell it not to come back. Yeah that is it told eh? But when I see a spider the feeling of revulsion is the first thing, and then I thing it is more scared of me than I am of it. and get rid of it. (unless it is on the ceiling). Where I leave it until it comes nearer, I am not walking along the furniture to catch it. The only thing I am scared of now is big hairy brown moths (devil's creatures). But one got tangled in my hair as a child and mum had to cut my hair to get it out. My fear of them is rational to me.

Flink's nephew is between on whether or not he likes bugs.

Like when he was younger, he wasn't terrified of them, he just didn't like them. Now he alternates between, "OOH! BUG! -stares-" and "BUG. Bad bug! -smoosh-"

Flink doesn't mind bugs or spiders in general. Like if they're in the house she'll leave them be, or if they're the kind tha bite and hurt, she'll move them outside so they don't bite her nephew. BUT, if they're in her room, then she gets even.

Why? No clue. Something about bugs being in Flink's room just makes her dislike them more than any other bug.

That and there's a huge spider in a corner of the ceiling in the computer room at Flink's house. He's too far up to reach, so Flink leaves him alone. But her brother, well... He keeps trying to spray the poor thing. XD

My brother used to think it was funny to vacum up spiders and take them out the vacum cleaner to scare us with. He had a collection of spiders in a match box in his room and when he was sent to bed early for misbehaving (which was often) he would take them out and race them down the bed, the winner got killed. (doesn't inspire you to win lol). But thankfully he grew out of that. He said something to me on MSN about spiders and was shocked that I wasn't scared of them anymore. I told him if he lived nearer he would know these things.

Boys are just revolting aren't they?
If you have a spider that lives in a certain room it will eat the flies and so on anyway so it's earning its keep. As long as it sticks to its territory, ie well out of your way..
I think it's funny when men are afraid of spiders though, because they often don't want to admit it. there was one sat under my ex's Playstation one night, and he wouldn't go near it, i had to fling it out of the wondow myself
Have you ever seen a cat catch a spider? They eat them, that's a really disgusting to witness

Incidentally all this talk of spiders is making me itch a bit now

Flink's family thinks she's obsessed with spiders. Only because in any video game, if there are spiders, she's making the character run around while she sings, "Spiders, spiders, lalala."

She did that for an hour in FFXII. Two hours for the dinosaur thingy. <.<

I don't have siblings so I don't understand this behavior but this is the kind of stuff my daughter does to my son all the time. She is constantly catching bugs and then throwing them on him so he will scream. I keep telling her that he is going to get bigger and pay her back for all the mean things she does but she doesn't believe it.

Simon had no qualms about saying spiders scare him. There are two in my bedroom, just been up to empty the laundry basket there. I just leave them they will go themselves. One made a mistake of climbing in the living room window when Violet was sitting on the window sill, she played with it for a while then ate it. Yoko the wee fat dog, chases daddy longlegs and eats them. It used to be a race between her and Poppy (the old cat) to get them first. Maddie doesn't like to eat anything that moves. Her food doesn't have legs. She thinks she is a posh dog. I haven't the heart to tell her she is the only 100%heinz in the house lol

Jelly doesn't have kids. Sorry to hear you can't have kids flink that must be hard for you. I keep telling Simon that I feel awful as he won't have kids of his own, as I can't have anymore. But he brushes it off. I sometimes wonder if he kind of regrets it.. But three nephews must keep you busy. Most of my nephews and nieces have grown up, Mags kids is the youngest nieces I have. They are 12 and almost 9. In fact I am a great anunt not that I boast about that, it makes me feel old!

I don't have any pets anymore. I want to get another one (I really miss having my kitties) but we have to move first. It is a difficult situation we are in currently so I really have no say in what goes on here.

All I have is the kids. Just me and them, my own little family :)
