There was always guy and girl pokemon! But the only way to tell them apart before was the sign after their name! Now they actually have slightly different physical aspects to tell them apart!
They're both Nidoran's with the male and female symbol after to tell them apart. They evolve into Nidorino and Nidoriona then Nidoking and Nidoqueen, respectively! They're pretty old though from the first generation of Pokemon when there were only 150 to worry about!

And Piplup and Chimchar ( the monkey) are both starter pokemon!

Duude, they can take care of themselves with their pokemon. Puleez everyone know the main character can't die! Besides Team Rocket's still alive and they were like electrified or burned or something almost every episode. No one ever dies in Pokemon. It's a kiddies show for reason!

Chimchar's a fire pokemon and Piplup's a water Pokemon so you have a disadvantage already! Meehh I don't believe I've ever chosen a leaf starter pokemon yet....I must really not like green. XDD Blue and red rules!!!!!!

NO, there are always 3 starter Pokemon ( Fire , Water, and Leaf type ) each with their own advantages!
Fire is super effective against leaf, leaf against water, and water against fire. Every types has its own advantages and disadvantages. In the end, it really depends on the player's skills, and luck in a way.
It's possible for a fire pokemon to win against a water one.
They are more types than these three of course like ghost, normal, poison, steel, and electric, i think. Of course the legendary pokemon are cool too! XP

Ditto may be special because of its transforming ability but it's still pretty weak if you ask me. Water is weak against electric and leaf, I believe.
It's Pokemon not real life, you know. Real life can't ever be this straight forward since there are like contradictions to almost everything!
