I have this compelling need to bite my nails. It's like someone cast a spell on me, forcing me to bite them whenever they come into my sight. And I always look at them before I bite. But I can't stop... even if I want to.

For the most part, I find really short nails more useful because you can really touch things... ya know?

I hope that's not some sort of innuendo.

Wow, there was a True Life on MTV about self harming. This girl could not keep from pulling her hair!
One of my cousins did the hair-pulling thing. She got her eyebrows, and most of her hair. Got to the point where she needed to wear a wig in order to avoid stares.

I don't know if she still does it or not, but I certainly don't want that to happen to me.

I don't bite my nails from a nervous habit, but sometimes, when I notice a nail thats too long, and I can't find a nail clipper, it bothers me so much that yeah, I might bite it off. It's a bad habit nonetheless.

I do it on purpose. Long nails get in the way and they chip and flake, and I can't get good control with clippers (nor are they as easy to access). I bite off my nails whenever they're long enough to bother me.

I used to bite my nails. It was a stupid habit.
When I was little, I was bashful about getting complements, so I used to turn down my face, and eat my fingers.

Much better than carrots^^

  • Did you do it?
I did bite my nails when I was little, but I stopped when I grew older. :]

    Do you do it today?
    Not at all. Never.

    Are relatives nail biters?
    I really doubt it. :\

Discuss everything, and anything nail biting!
I see tons of people bite their nails in public, and I personally think its disgusting. Especially if other people are around and its in a public place. :S

Haha. I bite my nails. I bite the skin around my nails. I can't stop, it was number one on my new years resolutions list for the past five years or so. So right now, my nails are practically nonexistant, and the skin around my nails is just gross and disgusting to look at. I mean, it's not bleeding or anything, although sometimes it is, but the skin is like pulled off and gross.

Nail biters often seem to also bite the skin around their fingertips! I guess it is a add-on to the habit.

I used to bite my nails. If I wanted to stop I just simply though " huh.. I don't feel like biting my nails anymore " and didn't do it. Sometimes I'd absently do it if I was bored.

An actual trick to not biting your nails that both girls and guys can use is putting on a thick coat of nail polish. It can be clear but sometimes it helps if it's a dark color. A mouth full of nail polish flakes isn't very pleasant and makes you think ' Jeeze, I wont do that again '

xD

Huh, interesting way. I have heard of that before! Actually have never tried it first hand. You are lucky you can tell your self to stop.

Yeah after I convinced myself that I didn't want to it seemed as if it just naturally stopped.

If the nail polish doesn't work then another thing you can do is put a small object in your hand and hold onto it at the times you're most likely to bite your nails. A marble, piece of paper, eraser, anything that you'll see when you're going to your hand.. you juuust might want to make sure you remember what it stands for before you put it down and start chomping.
;D

Just a thought:

Alot of people hate the smell of sharpie markers. Why not draw a little design on your nails and not only will you not want to mess up the designs you won't want to smell the sharpie

:D
