I'm trying to lose 15-20 lbs before summertime, which would put me at 125-130 lbs (I'm fairly tall, and I start to look "sickly" if I weigh much less than that). Recently I've started volunteering at a local animal shelter, walking dogs for 2-3 hours twice a week. I'm also forcing myself to keep a mental journal of what I've eaten, which actually helps a lot when it comes to cutting down on snacking. I hate strict dieting, all I really have to worry about is binging (which is easy to do when I bring new groceries home, especially sweets).

Good luck, fishy! Mental journals are easy to lose track of (for me, at least! Hehh). x'D I tried making one the I wrote in, but it made me cry. ._.;
Are you remembering things alright?
I told myself I was going to take my pudgy dog on a run every day, but.. x_x I lost the time to do that, and then the motivation. I was also a volunteer at a shelter, walking dogs, but they lost funding and the animals all ended up being.. erm.. put down.
Binging is a bad habit.. I'm super glad you're trying to avoid it, too.~ >o

@hollywood: It sounded like you had some extreme fatigue...
At first being on a gluten-free diet was a challenge, because there really wasn't much I could eat at restaurants so I felt a little left out when I ate out with friends... Also, I discovered that I had an addiction towards bread and I had cravings for pie and donuts... After 2 yrs these cravings subsided. Now, I've been without gluten for 4 yrs. I have celiac disease so its important to remain on this diet. Its hard, but afterwords you have more energy and less pain... Like I used to get migraines, bone & joint pain and eczema that was related to my allergies to gluten and now thats gone. Yes, I love the new health food stores! They help out a lot because its hard to bake rice flour products (they don't stick together well)... but sadly all the gluten-free food is very expensive...

I usually remember what I've eaten if I think about it while I'm actually in the process of eating, which isn't hard when I'm in the dieting mindset. ^^ I don't like keeping journals, just 'cause it makes the whole thing register as a competition in my head, which has lead me to eat too little in the past.
I have a hard time motivating myself to get out and exercise, too, which is why it's good to have a schedule that the shelter staff expect me to follow.
It's awful that yours got shut down... that would break my heart. :(

Doomfishy, my sister recently told me to sign up to this website http://caloriecount.about.com/
I haven't done so YET.... BUT! She said it has been helping her like crazy! It really makes keeping a food journal a snap, since it has the calorie counts of pretty much every food in existance.... even fast food.
I'm going to check it out withing the next couple of days, but she is singing praises from the rooftops over it.
Xxrainbows: I also keep all my weight in my boobs, my thighs.... and a little in my tum tum. The first places I tend to LOSE weight are my tum/love handles, my thighs and around my face. My boobs.... they dont wanna go anywhere.
Thothy- That must have been a hard time of adjustment. I guess thats what any diet is, really.
Where you had your addiction to breads, I crave salty snacks. Beef jerkey and tortilla chips with guacomole.... anything I can dip into hot sauce.... I need to start cutting that stuff out.
Dan and I have been really good about cooking healthy meals together... but we both need to top with the snacking (well, he doesn't since he looks anorexic, but I do)
Last night we had hamburgers made with lean ground bison (so much less fatty than ground beef... and tastes way more amazing) on whole wheat buns. SO that was pretty good.
It sucks though because 'm working late tonight so I'll be having dinner at the mall.... which means food court.... which means....nothing healthy. Bummer.
I need to buy some groceries.

Whew. Havent visited HERE for a couple of days *blows dust from thread*
So, it's Easter weekend.... and that generally means the whole world will be consuming chocolate like crazy.... so I dont expect many of us to be "OH YEA! EAT HEALTHY! WOOOO"
This week is going to be hard, as Dan and I are enormously broke until Friday. We are going to be living off of watever we can scrounge (good thing he works at a resturaunt)
BUT when friday comes around, I am going to do a HUGE grocery shop of all sorts of ealthy things because I am REALLY unhappy with my stomach area right now.
It's so bad that I haven't felt like having sex all week.
I havent had to turn it DOWN, I just pretend i get tired and go to sleep early. I am lame.
Yesterday dan walked into te bathroom when I was in the bath and I made sure I had a mound of bubbles over my midsection. lame.
Time to whip it into shape. sex is fun, i shouldn't shun it.

I've started to lose weight--not so much a diet, but a lifestyle change. I've started restricting the amount of calories I eat. I can eat whatever I want, but I can't have lots. I've started exercising a lot more--I play hockey at work (P.E. Class) and I walk during my lunch break. I've also started paying attention to when I feel full. Once I feel full, I stop. If I get the munchies, if I'm not hungry, I don't eat. My current weight is over 300 lbs. My BMI is 51.6. I'm going to keep going until I'm a size 12/14 again. I really don't care how much I'll weigh at that size, I'm worried about being healthy. I've been using my weight to keep men away from me (three horrifically failed marriages later) because I didn't trust my own judgement. I feel that I'm stronger and wiser now. I have three kids that are counting on me to be around a long time.
I'm not really sure why I'm doing this; I'm very sensitive and private. I guess I've fooled myself into thinking people don't see me, therefore I can get away with being obese. If I have people "seeing" me...knowing what I'm doing and why, maybe I can be more accountable to myself and actually lose the weight.

Hey all! This sounds like a fantastic idea! A community of weight-loss makes for Happy-Sauce. :)
Thanks, Hollywood!
I'd like to set up camp too, if'n you don't mind. :P
@Sinister Sassy:  It sounds like you've decided to lose weight for all the right reasons. You should definitely take a lot of pride in what you've done so far. Keep it up!
Does everyone here have a main motivation for losing weight? It might be fun to put together a great big list of reasons to help motivate us.

Goal BMI: 20.5
Weight to Lose: 13 pounds.
Time to take: 10 weeks. --> The end will be around my birthday, as a present to me. :P

Plan Mark I: I'm going to take up running as a regular pasttime again, since it tends to make me all-around happier. I'll begin the first two weeks by increasing my aerobic exercise. During those two weeks I'll keep a food journal to find out how much my eating habits have deteriorated since I began living here... and I'll adjust my plans, take my BMR, and go from there.

Week 1: 140.
Week 2: 137.

@ Truelight: Is there a community college or parks & rec in your area? Sometimes, they have lower rates and similar equipment to gyms.
@ Aislin: Thanks for the support. I can certainly all the support I can get.
I exercised about 5 hours total last week, which is a HUGE step for a couch potato...ahem...computer potato. I'm not going to weigh myself until Wednesday at the earliest. I don't want to do the daily weight thing and shoot myself in the foot, so to speak.
A lot of people at work have noticed and we're starting a "walking club". We're going to have the fittest staff in town!

Well, my roommate's friend ate 2 lbs of cheese I had bought for a couple of healthy dishes I had planned to stretch all week, so I was stuck eating my roommate's hashbrowns every nite for dinner, because it was the only thing I could make that didn't need other ingredients. BOY, I could swear right now, but I normally don't, so I won't.
But really, how could a person eat that much cheese in four hours?
Anyway, one pound was mozzerella for veggie pita pizzas for lunch, and the other was cheddar for black bean enchiladas for dinner.
Anyway, so I feel all blah because I've been eating potatoes all week. I'm not fat, but I could use to lose the last few pounds like anyone else. This just did not help my mood for summer.

@Sinister Sassy: That's awesome! Most people I know never get to five hours a week-- so that's definitely impressive, even for a non-computer-potato. :)
I'm glad that your work is so supportive! I'd very much like to be in that sort of environment. My aunt's company is having a "biggest loser" bonus to encourage its workers to be fit... That kind of community support sounds great. Having that group is bound to make regular exercise a ton easier. :boogie:
Kudos on getting everyone started on walking!
@Guivre: Ugh, that sounds terrible! And... physically possible? Two pounds of cheese? They must have made some kind of uber-nacho setup, to eat that much cheese... :insane:
I hope things level out for you soon!
Try to get some variety in if you can. If you eat the same thing over and over again, you'll get bored, and might start eating more because the monotone-food pattern doesn't quite satisfy you.
Heh... I'm trying to follow my own advice, actually, but failing. I may have to run to the store soon and pick up some apples... baked apples are healthy, at least-- and cheap enough. Most importantly, they are not chicken nuggets. :|
Now, off to bond with the treadmill...
Be well, keep happy! :)

WELCOME to Aislin, Guivre, Truelight and Sinister Sassy!
Glad to have you guys on board!!
I must admit.... I kind of.... didn't really try much since Easter... and yesterday being 420 and all that.
But miraculously, I feel as though I have lost some poundage! Maybe 3! which is fantastic!
I guess that comes from not snacking as MUCH... though I still HAVE been snacking... it's just been on different things...I guess.
Anywho, I am happy to report that my food-stealing roommate is moving out at the end of the week, so I will actually be able to purhcase good food again without it going missing.
I will also admit, that its a gorgeous sunny day (20 celcius) and sine I worked all day indoors yesterday, I am going to go for a walk outside.
To the store.
To buy some ice cream sandwiches..... lol.
But I'll get the Skinny Cow kind :)

Oh wow, what is with roommates? ._.
Today I didn't really eat awesomely, but I don't think horrible damage was done, either. Plus, I got to try out a new casserole I had wanted to try -- it's normally a side dish -- for lunch, with a couple of steamed corn tortillas on the side.
Active as usual, starting the day out with stretching and lots of walking throughout the day.

Wow, this seems preety cool.
I recently lost like thirty pounds, but I'm still not at my "target weight."
So I figure why not.
Let's post a profile.
Nickname: Poppy
Current Weight: 150
Target Weight: Not so much a weight in mind as it is a size....let's say 140
Body Mass Index: 24.2
Number of Pounds to Lose: 10
How Many Weeks: Umm??... Until school lets out (June 2nd)??
Diet/Exercise Plan:
I'm not really sure where to start.
I lost the weight in Fall, playing volleyball.
I'm going to try and continue to eat healthier.
Switch from 2% milk, to skim, and drink water more than juice(soda isn't really an issue). And add more green and natural foods to my diet. It's been an issue because I'm at my grandmother's house at the moment, and she's really big on cooking fried foods, and expecting us to eat a lot of it.
x' P
I'm going to try and add a brisk walk/jog to my day, after dinner, in combination with softball practice (low energy).

Grandmothers CAN be hazardous to a diet... but you gotta love 'em.
I'm having a cheat day like crazy. It was so sunny so I had a session with the neighbors, and we sat on my front lawn drinking.... and I had an oreo ice cream sandwich.... but hey, it was HOT out! haha.
Back to eating healthy tomorrow.

And I know right.
Love her dearly, but I gotta be able to take care of me.
And cheat days are ok, I kind of had one today.
I had a craptastic breakfast -McDonalds....nuff said.
x' D
And Pizza hut pan pizza for lunch (But I only had two slices/squares)so yeah.
:' )
And I'll have dinner soon.
To balance it out a bit, I had a softball game today.
And oh...my...gosh.
I'm kinda suckish when I come up to bat, but once I'm running, or playing in the out field, it's all butter(aka, it all goes smoothly).

Oh hey all! This thread is moving again! Amaaazing. XP I never come into Nations anymore, and on today of all days I decided to see what was up in here. Glad to see this is back and running. :D
"Diet" seems to be an important word for me nowadays, though I don't call it a diet. It's a lifestyle change, and a permanent one. As of today, I've lost 35 pounds since October '08. I also dropped 20ish pounds the year before, just by starting to walk a three/four days a week for 30 mins. I plan on taking off at least 40 more by this October. *crosses her fingers* I feel pretty good about my goal for this year, as I've been pretty successful up until now. It's really been all about lowering my carb intake and exercising 4-5 days a week. I had forgotten just how much I loved to exercise until I started going back to the gym. Now I get to read and work out at the same time! ^_^ Multitasking is cool. :D
Anyways, I'll try to stop by here every now and again and see how everyone is doing. :D *subscribes*

Typical human reaction I suppose, I get down to the idea weight for my height and all I can do is bitch xD But I seriously only have one pair of jeans that I can wear where others are going to see me, none of my trousers fit, just a couple of skirts do and a handful of tops, and none of my bras do any more. DUDE! I totally hear you! All my clothes are WAY too big and they all look ridiculous on me! One of my coworkers is constantly telling me to go to the thrift store and buy some new pants, but I hate digging through piles of old clothing. I like picking stuff off the rack in my size -- no problem. You can't do that with a thrift store. :(
I had to buy new bras too because mine weren't holding the girls up enough anymore, since the band and the cups were too big. I went up a cup size, but down a band size, and have since recovered my waistline. I'm quite curvy, but never would have known it. XP *pokes her fat hips* Them's fer child-rearin'! XD

Week One was a funny l'il ol' mess for me. I did get to 137, but without much "healthy" eating as far as that goes. Instead of spending the time making healthy digs, I munched on chicken nuggets at a low calorie intake, and then hopped on the treadmill to read my government text.
AP Gov test in.... just over seven days? Sweet merciful heassdfkskfkaskjfhsjdfhskjfs,.....
In any case, I'm planning the same strategy until I manage to pass two AP tests. Small caloric badness, treadmill, water, textbooks.
Wish me luck!
I hope you guys are doing well.
I'll technically have finished week 2 as of Thursday, so I'll pop in then to say hi.

I like this thread, I think I might use it. ^^
But I don't want to fill out a profile - I don't like telling people my weight.
Anywho, I've pretty recently had a huge lifestyle change. I don't know why, but I just did. I eat so much better than I did only 4 months ago. I never drink fizzy pop anymore, it's all Volvic water, and chocolate isn't something that I go near - unless I do a little baking. >.<
Since about the very end of Feb/early March, I've lost 16 pounds, just from changing my eating - no exercise. Now, I really want to lose the weight and notice the difference so I'm going on the dance mat and the running machine that we have.
I'm not exactly going for a specific weight, but size clothing, and I want to go 3 sizes lower though I'm already slipping into one below. ^^
So yeah, that's me. I'll offer support to anyone that needs it so we can reach our goals together. :)

WELCOME WAGON!!!!!
Welcome welcome welcome to Sizzla, Cuppy and Sring `Tyme fresh!
Its soooo good to have you guys here!!
Sizzla: Good for you, dude! Your results are amazing!! Did you find it hard to make the change? is it all second nature now? I always have a good time when I get out to the gym too, but its hard for me at the moment, there isn't a gym anywhere near here... now that you mention it though, I really should get out for a walk today. Its gorgeous out, and I have the day off.
Aislin: Good for you! Finding ways to multitask is great, especially when it helps your cause!! Looking forward to next weeks results!!
Cuppycake: We are here for you!!! Welcome!!!
I will lend any support I can in order for you to meet your goals! This is what we are all here for, afterall!!!
Have you broken the big goal down into a bunch of small goals? I find that at first, reaching for smaller goals is more rewarding (since it actually seems like you are getting results) and will most likely keep you in track!!
Springy: Great jobs in taking the steps to make a change!! Don't worry about filling out a profile. they are here strictly for people who want to do them!! Really glad to have you on board!! The more the merrier, really!!
Anyways. I really, really need to get my ass in gear. Yesterday I had a horrible "fat" day. You know... those days when nothing you can do will make you feel comfortable in what you are wearing..... I almost bought a new outfit at work... but restrained myself. Somethings gotta give. I DO Walk home from work everyday for about 16 blocks. Most days I have heavy bags of groceries as well. I need to do more though. I need.... to go for walks on my days off, perhaps. Or start walking TO work as well...
I have been making small changes to the way I eat... I'll have to get Dan on board with what I'm doing though because he always brings home treats for me. Case in point, a small bag of my fav bold BBQ doritos and a toblerone bar....
I should probably curb the ammount of pot I smoke... but I really like doing it so recently I have been getting prepared for my sessions by cutting up veggie sticks and making my own dip before I smoke. Since everything tastes amazing when you are baked, this has worked quite well all week.
I need to revisit my posts from when I was doing this initiallty. Revisit mt strategy... because I had GREAT success that time around.... I lost 15 of the 20 I was going for!! I need that same motivation back...

dead thread dead thread dead thread!! no more!!
*breathes life into the thread*
I am craving veggies and healthy meals like craaaazy!!!
but i still like my snacks when I watch a mooovie.
Heres something to talk about:
What is your worst habit when it comes to food/eating?
For me, it'skipping breakfast.
I'm just not hungry when I wake up and get ready for work, so my "breakfast" is a 26oz coffee and 2 smokes while I'm on my way to work. I know... awesome.
I need to change this, though. I have been getting horrible headaches/dizziness the last couple days that has in effect brought me to vomit. I'm sure this is because I am neglecting proper nutrition. I am going to try really hard to have breakfast because my body needs the fuel. It's going to be a bit of a battle, since I don't really LIKE most breakfasty type foods, but I'll have to do it.
It will help my metabolism as well, so I really can't lose.
