I love Utena. I've been meaning to watch it again, because I only saw a few episodes but I loved them. It's just so odd and different, I can't help but appreciate it. The art is gorgeous and it's both funny and sad at the same time. I read part of the manga, but I haven't read past volume 4, I think.
I first got into Utena when I rented a VHS of it from a local Blockbuster. I watched it with my mom (because the VCR was in her room), and she was like, "are they gay?" I remember trying to defend them with gusto. :P
I heard the movie was even stranger than the anime, so I need to check that out as well. Something about cars, that's what I've heard, and sex or something.
It's sad that not many people have heard of it, I think it's great and has a really good story. The characters, the motifs, all of it is so deep and meaningful, and the bond Utena and Anthy share is one-of-a-kind.

I've only read two books of it. I always forget to read the rest of it.
Some of my friends love it.

I've read up to vol 4, and stopped.
It has a good plot, but I don't really like it. -_-

I love it! I finished the tv series and the movie. I thought the movie was kind of odd but the art style was amazing. I'm also obsessed with the music, I think I have both CD's they released in the US for it.

I *think* I love it. I saw the movie before the TV show, so I think I may have been spoiled by the coherence and quality of the movie -- I confess I prefer the movie to the show. The series... well, it's a little too episodic for me; all the duels, and the elevator rides, and the repetitive things and all. I suppose since it's a 90s (?) anime, episodic is typical.
Oh! I also love that half of the seiyuu come from Sailor Moon -- Usagi's is there, for one, and if I wanted to look it up on Anime News Network, I'd cite the others. [I'd love to find out someday why Evangelion, Sailor Moon, and Utena share so many seiyuu...] Anyway.
The symbolism *is* mind-boggling. The Anime-Manga-Research-Circle Yahoogroup recently had a discussion on color symbolism, and someone brought up Utena: the symbolism seems to come from Kabuki tradition! Neat, eh?
I'm personally not that fond of the music; all those chant-y things for the duels. It works in the movie, but in the show it gets (as I said above) repetitive.

Utena has been one of my favorite anime, movie, and manga ever.
It's splendid. :3
I own the movie, the movie manga, the full box set, and all of the series manga [plus a wall scroll]. You could say I'm slightly fan girl-ish.
I want to do a Utena cosplay but, alas, I don't even have close to the boy for it, yet I have seen some really awesome and cool Utena cosplayers! :3
My friend actually cosplayed Anthy this year at Otakon. There was also Utena, Akio, Juri, Miki, and Touga [though he was asleep when I saw him]. I was quite a nice turn out for Untena cosplay.

Ohh! its sucha good manga! though, i've been unable to find the dvd's for myself, i have heard that the anime is vastly different from the manga and actually contains a mecha fight somewhere in it. That may just be rumor coming from the mule, but i wonder if thats true . . . >>>

I thought it looked good when it had first come out but hadn't had the opportunity to watch it then. I finally got to see some episodes are few years ago -unfortunaly in english because my sister says can't keep up with the subtitles. Anyway I was kind of disapointed. Mostly with the repetetive animation scens. Every duel they have to go through the same exact scenes and music. It gets very annoying fast. Though I would like to give it another try when I can watch it by myself with subtitles on. I found the story to be very interesting so I want to see more because of that.

Before I talk I have nothing against lesbians or anything weird like that. I'm just not a big fan of Yuri, I don't care if people want to be in girlxgirl relations, it doesn't bother me, but you'll only catch me watching yaoi, not yuri. I also want to say that I'm a girl.
So I watched the series on demand with comcast. I loved it. But it stopped making sense like 30 eps in and I lost interest.
Then my dad buys us something for christmas(I gave it away to a friend of mine who likes lesbian porn.). I unwrap it and frown. Pink casing. I hate the color pink and he knows it. I glance at the the name and shout "Oh my god! there's an Utena movie!" I pop it in the dvd player later that evening I'm turning it off really quick as we stare in shock at the screen that the two women turned into cars or motocycles or whatever and were having sex in said tranformation. I turned to my dad and said "Never buy something I don't ask for again."

I have one more manga in the series that I need to read, and I just started watching the anime last night. I think the anime is absolutely beautiful. I just wish that the same song wouldn't be played over and over again every time she enters the arena to do a battle. That song has been stuck in my head all day! I think the two shadow girls are really hilarious.

I love Utena. It's the first and only shoujo-ai anime that I will ever watch. I haven't read the manga, but I've seen the anime and the movie. I don't like the movie, however. It just throws me off because it takes away what I loved about the characters so much. I plan on doing a Utena/Anthy cosplay with my friend at MetroCon this year. I'm so excited since we're doing their school uniform outfits and not many people do that one. I would've loved to do the duelist/rose bride outfit, but meh....my partner fell in love with Anthy's uniform. <3

I watched the Utena movie with my friends one day. I actually really liked the movie. We were watching the extras and thought it was hilarious that when they asked the creater what his favourite part was, he said:
We started watching some of the series, and I got REALLY annoyed by the same animation happening every five minutes. It got on my nerves, so I had to stop.
