Just recently got into this comic because of the movie. I find that I am enjoying the comics more than I had originally thought that I would.

Anyone else read this comic?
What do you like about it?
Dislike?
Favorite Characters?

I'm still a fan of John Constantine all the way.

I've read a couple collections. They're kind of hit and miss. The earlier I've read was very uneven and too ... serial. Mostly one issue stories. The later ones, especially the ones by Ennis, I enjoyed. But since I haven't been able to find too many collections (at least, it doesn't appear that you can get the whole series collected in order, just some of the famous story arcs), I'm not fit to judge it as a whole.

I will say, I love Constantine's character. He's just one of those characters that can carry a comic through anything (somewhat like Deadpool, who's so unique that you can trudge through his sometimes hackneyed or convoluted stories and come out happy).

Favorite issues: The only ones that come to mind are the "All His Engines" trade and the one where he finds out he's dying of cancer (although it was great, I thought it WAS a little too short. Still classic) and the one where he's stuck in prison. Damn, now I want to dig them out again. xD

Even though the movie was a patchy adaptation, I really enjoyed it. Somehow, the sum managed to be better than the parts ... Keanu was a bad choice for John (although he did a decent job, he was just wrong), the story tried to do too much in too short of a time and got bogged down, but for some reason I dug it and I'd love a sequel. With or without Reeves (but of course, unless they go back in time and get a 30 year old Sting or David Bowie, no one'll be perfect).

Ahh Constantine. I love him, I really do. I can only take Hellblazer comics in small doses though. They are so dark, so violent, and they never end well. So I tend to get worn out by that kind of world view very quickly. None the less, I am an avid fan of the series, and greatly enjoy Constantine's cameos whenever he shows up elsewhere (helping Death teach sex ed, anyone?).

Constantine is an excellent character in that he is such an overwhelming anti-hero. There's really very little that could actually be called good about him, and the things that he does are rarely good either. They are, however, needed. I have a great respect for those who do what is needed.

The movie, I've never seen. I've only heard bad things about it, and I've heard that they're way off in his characterization. And if that's the case, what's the point?

I just couldn't get over two simple facts: 1) John is not supposed to be pretty! Keanu was a horrible choice.
2) Los Angeles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrr! American is wrong. Wrong. Wrong!

My fan casting for John has always been James Marsters, but the Bowie look-a-like that played Ozymandias in Watchmen might work, if they roughed him up a bit first.
