Word of advice Chi... Take everything that the WIC people tell you with a grain of salt... My oldest boy was in the 98 percentile for height and weight... Not sure what chart that is on but he was a BIG BOY he still is just not at the 98 percentile for weight anymore. Sean has always been long and skinny much like his daddy. 98-99 percentile for height and only 30-50 percentile for weight... He is still super lean... My wic lady had never said anything to me but I have friends in similar situations who have had bad ones... See about requesting a new worker. Tell them your experiences and that you've spoke with a pedi and they have no concerns for her. What WIC is there for is to advise you to eat well while pregnant and nursing... not to do much of anything else unless it was the lactation consultant who should have known better... Breast fed babies are often "under" the charts. It is because their food is PERFECT for them... They metabolize it better therefore they don't gain as much weight... Though not of BF babies are so lol... As I said my oldest was quite the chunk as is the case with my best friends daughter now... lol
Mellie I soooo want to be a lactation consultant.... That way I don't deal too much with the food packages... and I can laugh a little inside when the mom gets mad that she loses her check when she stops BFing so she can go drink and finds out that those 8 or whatever cans of formula don't cover a whole month where as the like 5-6 gallons of milk do ^___^ ((is bitchy like that))

Chi- If your pediatrician isn't concerned, you should pretty much ignore what the WIC office tells you. You're breastfeeding your child. You're giving her what she needs, and if you nurse for longer, your supply should go up. But I do agree, I wish they would be more encouraging. I was having a really hard time with the twins, and instead of talking to me about ways to increase my milk supply, they said to just stop and give them formula. I was like...but I don't want to stop, I said my supply wasn't enough, not that I didn't want to breastfeed them. It's just ridiculous how unsupportive so much of the US is when it comes to breastfeeding. California, where there is a huge "do what's natural" movement is even turning a blind eye to restrictions and helpful things being put on breastfeeding mothers. The one good thing that I can say about health care reform is companies with over... 100 employees are required to have a secure place for a woman to pump if she's choosing to breastfeed her child, that ISN'T a bathroom. So that's a step in the right direction...But that doesn't really help WIC much.
You see the posters and stuff up in their office that are all "woo! breastfeed that baby!" but the staff doesn't seem to support it.
Kura was underweight for a while, but at about 6 months she completely plumped up. Went from the 40 percentile to 80th. Then they told me to nurse her less because she was getting to fat. And I ignored that too...I nursed her when she wanted it, or when I needed to. xD Since then she's been in the 80 to 90 percentile and doctors constantly comment on her weight. They don't seem to realize that she's in the 95th for height and that her weight corresponds to that...or that I'm 5' 9" and Scotts 6' 1" and so we're going to have big babies/children...I hate to say that pediatricians are idiots too, but some of them, just see a high weight number and act like your child is obese with out taking any other factors into consideration. I don't know how tall you or Cole are, but from your pictures you guys don't look like giants like me/Scott, so to have her "underweight" is totally normal provided her height matches up. What I'm getting at is: :hug: As long as she's healthy, you're doing a good job.
Jaz- Doooo eeeet. WIC needs supportive booby people. xD

Ask about applying at your next appointment. Tell them your concerns about the program and what you'd do to "fix" it. (I do consider it broken personally They can't market breastfeeding and then tell moms to give up at the first sign of a struggle. It's not right.) Maybe discuss if you need a degree or not or any other information you can gather about the position. :3

I did all that already... All you need to get into it is have breastfed a child... I did that twice over 24 months collectively ^___^ My worker lady told me that I could make a resume look plumper by taking classes specific to teach about encouraging breastfeeding and learning about er... er... starts with an M.... infection in the breast that causes pain ><;; can't remember the name... I always thing Mastif like the dog ><;;; But she didn't tell me HOW to apply just to look for an opening in it :/ what if I want to apply NOW? What if I want to have my resume on record so I don't need a subscription to the newspaper ><;; I need to call the main office in my town and ask so I can get a straight answer without feeling shy about asking :(
On the other hand Dillon is applying for a postal position <3 *dances* if he gets it I might not need to work and I might go through with my plans to homeschool the Mikes and the Sean...

Does your WIC office have a website? That might have open positions listed on that, you'd just have to check weekly/monthly/whatever.
Good luck to Dillon! Might want to send in an application as well. Getting more money flowing in is always a good thing. ^^;;
Is that really all the experience you need? (Mastitis) :heart: duuuude. I could so do that. Heck, I already do that for some of my friend that need help when it comes to breastfeeding. We discuss positions that are easier, holds, how to latch the child etc. I can't believe they don't require more knowledge than doing it before. O.o I even have information on breast milk banks! xD /shot. Almost makes me want to look into it...I can be a very supportive person!
And best of all: I answer the phone when it rings!

THAT'S IT!!! Mastitis!!! I know what it is and how it works but I can't ever remember its darn name that is just cause I don't use it EVER... But anyhow... Yup that is all you require! At least for WIC... We also have a breastfeeding center connected one of the two hospitals. I believe you need just some of the classes from what the WIC lady was telling me :/
I guess Dillon is having trouble with the postal app :/ They are asking for the past seven years of work experience when he's only been working for the last 6 years and it says with no gaps well he was in college so he would stop working in the summer? Not everyone is like me <.< with months to YEARS of gaps in employment :/

Jaz, unfortunately this is the only worker available for our county. It's seriously poor. :roll: Like you guys said though, best to just ignore the unneeded commentary.
Mellie, we're very tall. I'm 6tft and Cole's 6'4" or so. :lol:

Yeah I'm just your average white female... 5'4" ^__^ but Mikes dad is 6'4 and Dillon is between 6'2-6'4 he swears he isn't 6'4" but he and Michael's dad are pretty close to the same height... Both boys are estimated to be between 6'2 and 6'4 at full height...
That is ridiculous though O_O We have 2 WIC offices in our town. Each has numerous WIC workers that is poor... The only thing you can really do is just ignore them :( that just sucks though :/

Chi- really? Wow, you don't look that tall in your pictures. xD But then if she's long and lean, it's just how you are! People take the whole percentile thing too far. It just goes by averages, not everyone is average! I know I'm not!
Jaz- How can you not have gaps in your employment? I don't know anyone that has had a constant job (er, except people working the same job) for more than a few years, generally people move on to other things, quit one to look for another etc. What ev. They should understand that, specially with the recentish massive layoffs and down turned economy. :/

I think they mean with no gaps with no work for the past 7 years... :/ Dillon has worked the last 3 years solid. He applied for the new job while still working at 7-11 as he is doing now. He's still working cause he HAS to... But he is looking for something better... Or he is suppose to be... :/ He's been kind of all talk lately... No action :( I had to remind him 4 times today to call the post office and ask how and where to apply... >.>;; Then again I had to push him to do the same thing for this job he lacks motivation and belief that he is able to get something better :/

Clair is pretty tall (5' 8"), but her sister, Anna, and brother, Scott, are both already taller than me... and I'm sure Chloe will be much taller than me, too. And my mum is taller than me. Why is Clair so short!? :gonk:

Most babies get a bald spot if not lose their hair at some point. I loved playing with Kuras little bald spot...that thing was hilarious!
Yay 20 more babies! xD I'll be in the same boat as you I'm sure of it. Gonna start working on number 5! xD Buuuut, I'll pass on being mommy to them all. >.>
I was embarassed to wear heels when I was dating Scott, since it would make me taller than him NOW, he's still taller than me and I be a happy pretty lady in heels, when I want to be anyway! My sister is abuot 5' 11" or 6 foot...She's having a hard time finding taller guys, that want a tall woman. most tall guys seem to like short girls. It's truly horrible. ):

Babies will rub their hair off when they learn to move their heads back and forth lol.... Both boys had a nice head of hair when they were born and when they were a couple of months old they had the reverse old man look going for them... Sean's hair started changing to blonde really fast as well so he looked bald for a really long time...
Jazzy is hopefully almost ready to start trying for #3. After my period comes and goes... If that ever happens it should have already >.>;; or I am REALLY close... It is making me crazy... <.<;;
I use to want so many babies.... :/ Then my thyroid went all whacky after Sean and his pregnancy was so miserable. Now I am nervous about the next one more then anything. We'll see how my next pregnancy goes though..... Maybe it will be a good pregnancy and I will still want my 10 kids... LOL Dillon better get a REALLY good job for that though
